<p>The rate&nbsp;of melanoma skin cancer in the UK has reached an all-time high, with analysis showing a significant rise in the number of cases over the past decade, especially among older people.</p>

<p>The recent diagnosis increased by almost a third from 21 to 28 in every 100,000 people between 2007-09 and 2017-19, according to Cancer Research UK (CRUK) figures, with a 57 per cent&nbsp;rise among the over-80s and a 7 per cent&nbsp;rise in those aged 25 to 49.</p>

<p>The gap in awareness of ultraviolet (UV) light and skin cancer risk is likely the cause of the difference in skin cancer rates between younger and older generations.</p>

<p>Additionally, the rise of affordable package holidays in the 1960s exposed older generations to more sun exposure during a time when tanning was seen as desirable.</p>

<p>CRUK’s chief executive, Michelle Mitchell, said it was really concerning to see the number of people being diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer across the UK.</p>

<p>According to the projections, 20,800 cases will be diagnosed in the UK this year, of which close to 17,000 are avoidable. Almost 90 per cent&nbsp;of melanoma is caused by too much exposure to UV light, which can damage DNA in the skin.</p>

<p>Beyond generational awareness, factors like population growth, ageing demographics, and increased recognition of skin cancer symptoms all contribute to the rise in cases.</p>

<p>"Getting sunburnt just once every two years can triple the risk of getting skin cancer, compared with never being burnt,” said Dr Claire Knight, a senior health information manager at Cancer Research UK.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The sunburn doesn’t only happen when it’s hot, it can happen on cooler or cloudier days too," Dr Knight added.</p>

<p>Rod Mackenzie, a parish councillor, expressed frustration over the situation, stating, "They're a pain in the butt. If they come into your garden, they dig everything up. It's not just food for the chickens, it's every bit of detritus they can find and that brings rats."</p>

<p>"What was it someone left the other week? A quart of pink prawns. The rats are quite sizable around here and they breed like hell,"&nbsp;Mackenzie further said.</p>

<p>Ben King, a local resident, told the publication that he has resorted to wearing earplugs at night to block out the noise from the birds. "They're out of control now, there's not just one or two … if someone came and moved them, I'd buy them a big beer," he said.</p>

Brigham Hawkins, the victim, had his mother Carol Hawkins discuss the terrifying event with FOX 10 Phoenix. <p>Previous reports have mentioned that a few bits of debris washed up on an island in the Indian Ocean, but besides that, the authorities did not find any trace of the wreck and no one knows what exactly happened to the plane. However, numerous conspiracy theories do exist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this year in March, a Texas-based company, Ocean Infinity, announced a proposal for a new search in the southern Indian Ocean where the plane is believed to have crashed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company has already submitted the proposal to the Malaysian government, proposing a "no-cure, no-fee" approach for further search. Reports mentioned that the client will have to pay for the services if the company secures a positive outcome.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Powerful storms and likely tornadoes tore through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky over the weekend, killing at least 18&nbsp;people, injuring hundreds, and leaving a swath of destruction across the central United States.</p>

<p>"Extensive damage was found in Cooke County, primarily south of Valley View near the Cooke/Denton County line, with a preliminary rating of EF-2 with estimated maximum winds of 135 mph," the National Weather Service reportedly said.</p>

<p>In Arkansas, local officials earlier reportedly confirmed at least five fatalities due to the storms however the toll was increased to eight. In northeast Oklahoma, two people were killed and over 20 injured. Louisville, Kentucky, also reported one death after violent storms struck over the weekend.</p>

<p>US President Joe Biden has been briefed about the current situation that prevails in central US, reports said quoting a White House official.</p>

<p>In the China Household Wealth Index Survey conducted by Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, Sichuan province, the index of spending expectations fell to 101.9 in the first quarter of this year, down from 103.0 in the fourth quarter of 2023.</p>

<p>The survey measures the spending plans of households with an average of 1.5 million yuan (US$207,000) in combined property and financial assets.</p>

<p>Around 12.5 per cent&nbsp;had been subject to online solicitation, such as unnecessary sexual talk that can include sexting, sexual questions and sexual act requests by adults or other youths.</p>

<p>The surveys further found that 7 per cent&nbsp;of British men, equivalent to 1.8 million, admitted the same.</p>

<p>The chief executive of Childlight, Paul Stanfield, said, “This is surprising that UK alone equates to forming a line of male offenders that could stretch all the way from Glasgow to London – or filling Wembley Stadium 20 times over."</p>

<p>“Child abuse material is so widespread that files are on average reported to watchdog and policing organisations once every second. This is a global health pandemic that has stayed hidden for far too long. It happens in every country, it’s growing exponentially, and it requires a global response,” Stanfield added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“An urgent action needs to be taken and treat it as a public health issue that can be prevented. Children can’t wait.”</p>
