A woman from New Zealand was convicted for overfeeding her dog, which weighed 53 kilograms (118 pounds) and was severely obese, which eventually led to its death, as per a Newsweek report. The woman has been sentence to two months in prison.

The dog named Nuggi was found by police in 2021 weighing about 54 kilograms (120 pounds) and was nearly unable to walk, according to a statement released by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Nuggi was then taken from his owner’s Auckland house, where police found another bunch of dogs, which were eventually given over to the SPCA.

As per reports, Nuggi died of a liver haemorrhage even after losing 8.8 kilograms (19.6 pounds) of his body weight in the care of SPCA. The organisation claims that an autopsy disclosed the dog’s additional health issues, including Cushing’s illness and liver problems.

Nuggi’s owner pleaded guilty to failing to provide for the dog’s medical, behavioural, and physical needs, as per the statement. Based on the owner’s confession, the Manukau District Court in Auckland sentenced the owner to two months in jail and a fine of NZD 1,222 ($720).&nbsp;

Veterinarians were unable to detect Nuggi's heartbeat with a stethoscope because of his extreme weight, according to the SPCA statement. The dog also had a lot of skin growths, especially on contact regions like his elbows and tummy, and his claws were enlarged.&nbsp;Nuggi also had conjunctivitis.

Todd Westwood, SPCA Chief said that the dog was "drastically overfed" and "clearly" did not have access to&nbsp;proper care. "Nuggi was one of the most obese animals we've ever come across," Westwood said in a statement.

As per SPCA, the pet dog was fed around 10 pieces of chicken every day along with dry food. Nuggi allegedly struggled to travel around 10 meters to the car when veterinarians took him away from his owner, pausing three times to gather breath.&nbsp;

"Part of being a responsible dog owner is providing your pet with an appropriate diet and daily exercise, which was clearly not the case here. His owner continued to overfeed him until he could barely walk. This is unacceptable," Westwood added.

Dr Lynnmarie Sardinha, the lead author, expressed concern that younger women were not receiving adequate support, leading to the study's motivation.&nbsp;

"I was extremely surprised to see what a huge percentage of adolescent girls basically are already being subjected to violence, even before their 20th birthday," she told Reuters.

"We are behind where we should be," noted Sardinha.

She added that while data gathered since 2018 is still being verified, it shows only a "very slight decline."

Rates were highest in Oceania, followed by Africa, with 49 per cent of girls in Papua New Guinea and 42 per cent in the Democratic Republic of Congo reporting intimate partner violence. Europe had the lowest rate, but still had a significant 10 per cent of girls reporting such incidents.

A report by South China Morning Post (SCMP) mentioned that the system can process hours of surveillance camera footage or about 6,000 images within seconds.&nbsp;

As quoted in the report, Wong Wai-kei, who is a senior inspector of the computer forensic lab, said: "In the past, our approach involved a colleague sitting in front of a screen for an hour to watch a one-hour closed-circuit television footage."&nbsp;

The country's electoral council loyal to President Maduro announced that he won a third term in voting after Sunday (July 30).

The opposition, which polls had predicted would win by a landslide, claimed it took more than two-thirds of the votes in the oil-rich country.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) gave Maduro 51 per cent of the votes, against 44 per cent for Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, the proxy for wildly popular opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

Courts loyal to Maduro barred Machado from running for president earlier this year, citing what she and many Venezuelans call bogus corruption charges.

More than 200,000 Democrats participated in the online event, which featured notable White male celebrities such as Mark Hamill, Jeff Bridges, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bradley Whitford, Sean Astin, and Josh Groban.

The reason for the account's suspension remains unclear, but it appeared to be reinstated by early Tuesday. The suspension notice stated: "X suspends accounts which violate the X rules."

A spokesperson of the California-based company said it was happy to resolve the matter. The statement added the company was looking forward to&nbsp;"exploring future opportunities to deepen our business investments in Texas, including potentially developing data centers."

The lawsuit was filed under the 2009 biometric privacy law of Texas in 2022 and was the first major case to be filed under this legislation.

The law provides for fines and damages worth $25,000 per violation.

The amount marks the largest accord ever by any single state, according to the lawyers for the state of&nbsp;Texas.
