The satellite, which weighs around 60 kilograms (132 pounds), is designed to test hardware and software systems&nbsp;for&nbsp;orbital manoeuvre&nbsp;technology, the TV report said.

The device was designed and built by Iranian Electronics Industries affiliated with the defence ministry, state TV said.

Western governments including the United States have repeatedly warned Iran against such launches, saying the same technology can be used for ballistic missiles, including ones designed to deliver a nuclear warhead.

Iran has countered that it is not seeking nuclear weapons and that its satellite and rocket launches are for civil or defence purposes only.

The Ghaem-100 rocket which carried the latest satellite is manufactured by the aerospace organisation of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, an arm of the military.&nbsp;

The carrier is the country's first three-stage solid-fuel satellite launcher, and official media reported its use in January to send a satellite for the first time into an orbit above 500 kilometres (310 miles).

Iran has for years been advancing its aerospace activities, insisting they are peaceful and in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Three US citizens are among 37 defendants sentenced to death by a military court on Friday for their role in a May failed coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Armed men briefly occupied an office of the presidency in the capital Kinshasa on May 19 before their leader, US-based Congolese politician Christian Malanga, was killed by security forces.&nbsp;

His son, Marcel Malanga, was among the Americans on trial, along with Marcel's friend, Tyler Thompson, who played high school football with him in Utah. Both are in their 20s.

Malanga had previously told the court that his father had threatened to kill him unless he participated. He also told the court it was his first time visiting Congo at the invitation of his father, whom he had not seen in years.&nbsp;

The Americans are among some 50 people, including US, British, Canadian, Belgian, and Congolese citizens, standing trial following the failed coup.

A total of 37 defendants were sentenced to death.

The verdict was read out under a tent in the yard of Ndolo military prison on the outskirts of Kinshasa. The defendants were seated in front of the judge, wearing blue and yellow prison-issued tops.

The trial began in July.

In Washington, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said embassy staff had attended the proceedings and would continue to follow developments closely.

"We understand that the legal process in the DRC allows for defendants to appeal the court's decision," he told a briefing.

Relatives of Marcel Malanga and Thompson did not respond to requests for comment.&nbsp;

Marcel Malanga's mother, Brittney Sawyer, has previously said her son is innocent.&nbsp;

Thompson's stepmother, Miranda Thompson, has previously said her stepson travelled to Congo on vacation to explore the world.&nbsp;

Thompson is feeling lonely and isolated in prison, according to the fundraising site that his family set up to support his defence.

Young Indian men were promised jobs as security personnel or helpers in Russia, after which they&nbsp;were shipped out of India&nbsp;in December 2023.&nbsp;

Sufiyan told Times of India, "We were treated like slaves. We were woken up at 6 am every day and made to work 15 hours straight - with no rest or sleep. The conditions were inhuman."&nbsp;

They had to dig trenches and operate assault rifles. They were even trained to use Kalashnikovs such as the AK-12 and AK-74, hand grenades, and other explosives.&nbsp;

Adding to their misery, their phones were reportedly confiscated&nbsp;and they did not know when they would return to India or be allowed to&nbsp;talk to their families.

However, they managed to comfort themselves with the thought of returning back to their home.&nbsp;

Sufiyan recalled his friend Hamil dying, “Hamil, a very good friend of mine from Gujarat, was blown to death in a drone attack. He was part of a team of 24 soldiers, including one Indian and one Nepali. It shook me up.”
