US Israel Iran war LIVE | The United States and Israel bombed Iran on Feb 28, in an operation that was named Operation Lion's Roar by Israel and Operation Epic Fury by the US. The Western powers described the attack as “preemptive”. The attack came in midst of nuclear talks between Iran and the US. The attack also came eight months after Israel launched a 12-day war against Iran.
In retaliation, Iran launched missiles towards Israel and then attacked several US bases in Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain. On March 1, it was confirmed that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack by US and Israel. Iran retaliated with more force as several top leaders were killed in subsequent attacks. Qatar’s air force intercepted two aircraft coming from Iran on Monday, the country’s defence ministry said, after Tehran earlier targeted gas facilities in the Gulf state. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on Mar 1 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the evolving situation in West Asia. The Committee was briefed on the air strikes in Iran on 28 February and the subsequent escalation, including attacks in several Gulf countries. It expressed serious concern over the safety and security of the large Indian expatriate community in the region. The CCS also reviewed the difficulties faced by Indian travellers transiting the region and students appearing for scheduled examinations, as well as the broader implications for regional security and economic and commercial activities. The CCS directed all concerned departments to take necessary and feasible measures to assist Indian nationals affected by the developments. It underscored the importance of an early cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
