Story highlights

Israel and the US launched strikes on Iran on Feb 28, triggering a major regional war. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US-linked Gulf bases after the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. As the conflict enters Day 13, global fears rise over oil disruption

US-Iran-Israel war LIVE | On Feb 28, Israel and the United States launched massive strikes on Iran and described it as “pre-emptive” amid ongoing nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. A day after, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. As tensions escalated rapidly, Iran vowed to avenge the killing of the Supreme Leader and launched strikes on all neighbouring Gulf countries that had US bases, justifying it as an attack on “American territory.” Tehran also launched missiles and drones at Israel and has ruled out any possibility of talks with the Americans, calling them out for their “betrayal” during the nuclear negotiations. The Islamic Republic ahs appointed a new Supreme Leader - Khamenei's son Mojtaba Khamenei.

On the other side, US President Donald Trump, who previously said that the war might go on for four weeks or so, has now said that the war is almost over. At home, the Republican president is facing immense pressure as he and his team have not been able to justify the endgame and reasons to begin the Iran war. Trump has also said that the decision to end the war will be “mutually” taken along with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel has expanded the war to target Hezbollah in Lebanon and ruled out any possibility of talks with the Lebanese government urging to end hostilities. The Gulf nations and Strait of Hormuz are caught in crosshairs.

As the war enters Day 13, world is fearing a dangerous oil and energy crisis. The international actors, including India, China and Russia have urged for dialogue while China and Russia have slammed the US for launching an attack on a sovereign nation. Reports also indicate Russian and Chinese help to Iran, however, there are no substantial proof of the same. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged dialogue and said that no solution can be arrived with military conflicts. Indian PM has spoken to leaders of several Gulf nations including Netanyahu. While Indian government has said that contact with top leadership of Iranian regime is not possible at the moment, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has spoken to his counterpart Abbas Araghchi and is in continuous touch with him.

The West Asia burns for now, with primary question about the situation of the region after all this ends. Where will the US and Iran relations stand after the war? What will be the locus standi of Israel? How will the Gulf nations behave after the war ends and how long will this conflict continue? Here are all the updates, analysis and developments on the US-Iran-Israel war
