‘Aim to hold trilateral meeting’: Zelensky says ready to meet Putin but on THIS condition

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has agreed to hold trilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, but only if Kyiv is given security guarantees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday (Aug 21) expressed his willingness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, but only after Kyiv receives security guarantees. He further suggested that the trilateral talks between the two leaders, along with US President Donald Trump could take place in Switzerland, Austria or Turkey.
“We want to have an understanding of the security guarantees architecture within 7–10 days. And based on that understanding, we aim to hold a trilateral meeting” also with US President Donald Trump, Zelensky said.
“Switzerland, Austria –- we agree... For us, Turkey is a NATO country and part of Europe. And we are not opposed,” he said of possible venues.
Russia builds up troops in Zaporizhzhia
The Ukrainian president also warned that both Kyiv and Moscow were preparing for further military operations. He added that Russian forces are building up troops along the southern front line in the Zaporizhzhia region, which Russia has claimed as its own.
“Zaporizhzhia: the enemy is reinforcing,” Zelensky said, adding that: “We can see that they continue transferring part of their troops from the Kursk direction to Zaporizhzhia.”

Ukraine tests long-range cruise missile
He added that Ukraine had tested a long-range cruise missile, Flamingo, which can strike targets 3,000 kilometres (1,864 miles) away. He said that mass production of the missible could start by February next year.
“The missile has undergone successful tests. It is currently our most successful missile -- it can fly 3,000 kilometres, which is significant,” he said.
Trump seeks to end war
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is pushing to end the war in Ukraine, which started following Russia’s invasion, that is in its fourth year. Trump held a series of discussions with Putin and Zelensky as part of efforts to end the conflict.
Ukraine leader said that once an outline of the security guarantees is agreed upon, US president would like to see a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
