China company run by 'Dragon' boss bans 'Dog' people from applying for jobs

Chinese zodiac signs

A company in China has banned certain applicants from applying for jobs based on astrological concerns. Everyone who was born in the Year of the Dog has been barred from working for the company. The reason? The boss of this company was born in the Year of the Dragon. According to the Chinese zodiac, two signs positioned opposite each other on the cycle do not go along well and can cause problems for the other.

Chinese zodiac calendar is divided into 12 years, with each year being assigned to an animal. This cycle repeats itself every 12 years. Those signs that fall opposite to each other are seen as opposing.

South China Morning Post reported that people responsible for the hiring process believe that applicants born under the canine Chinese zodiac sign will bring bad luck to the boss of the firm who is a dragon. The salary on offer for the job at Sanxing Transportation based in southern China’s Guangdong Province was3,000 to 4,000 yuan (US$420 - US$550) per month, half of the average salary in the province.

The job description clearly specifies that those born in the Year of the Dog should not apply. The strange requirement made everyone take notice of the job. A staff member told Hubei Television that such applicants were banned from applying because their boss was a “dragon”, and “dragons and dogs do not get along well”. The criterionis so important to the company that they are willing to hire a less qualified person, as long as they are not a canine zodiac sign.

About Chinese Zodiac Signs

Each Chinese zodiac sign corresponds to an earthy branch - metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Dogs are a fire element, while dragons are water, which the company officials believe might lead to arguments and conflict. Year of the Dog people are also seen as vindictive and can prove unlucky for dragon people. When it comes to romance, people born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to ruin things for the canine sign because the former is seen as being disloyal and less tolerant.

The zodiac signs also expand into Feng Shui, where solutions have been offered for people of the signs if they are intermingling. It advises lucky charms to be hanged in workplaces to keep the environment peaceful.
