An avalanche has struck the Zoji La pass in northern Ladakh, killing at least three people and trapping several vehicles.

Local media reported that multiple vehicles were buried under snow following the avalanche.

Authorities have placed relief and rescue forces on high alert in the region as operations continue.

The incident occurred in the afternoon on the Ladakh side of the pass, specifically along the stretch between Zero Point and Minimarg. Officials said that around 12 to 15 vehicles were partially or completely buried under the snow.

On the Srinagar-Leh highway, an avalanche hits Zoji La Pass near Ranga Morh. However, no casualties have been reported. Because of the massive accumulation of snow at Zoji La pass, the administration had already blocked the Srinagar-Leh road for the winter.
