<p>A review of 14,705 reef surveys in 87 countries has found the effort required to maintain fish catches had surged dramatically since the mid-1990s. It reflects their worsening health, with catches from reef species peaking in 2002 and declining ever since.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Published in the journal ‘One Earth’ on Friday, the study found the diversity of species on reefs has dropped by more than 60% and total reef cover had approximately halved. It has been accompanied by a similar fall in services that the ecosystems provide for human populations. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In his short victory speech at&nbsp;Beijing’s Great Hall of the People,&nbsp;Xi vowed to work diligently whilst adding that&nbsp;'the world needs China'.</p>

<p>“I wish to thank the whole party sincerely for the trust you have placed in us. I promise to prove worthy of the great trust of our Party and our people," said Xi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"China cannot develop without the world, and the world also needs China," he said before adding,&nbsp;"After more than 40 years of unflagging efforts towards reform and opening up, we have created two miracles -- rapid economic development and long-term social stability."</p>

<p>Additionally, the Chinese president&nbsp;pledged to achieve “rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”, a goal which requires the annexing of Taiwan. It was a callback to Xi's speech from the opening ceremony of the Congress where he repeatedly evoked the Taiwan issue and warned the western and secessionist powers not to interfere in China's business.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A man has been taken into custody after he allegedly killed a professor on the University of Arizona main campus on Wednesday (October 6).</p>

<p>At a press conference held later, the police chief said that the suspect, Murad Dervis, 46, was arrested by the police in the evening around 5 pm after being spotted near Gila Bend.</p>

Fox News reported him saying, "I have no words that can undo it, but I grieve with you for the loss, and I am pained, especially for Tom’s family members, colleagues, and students. I encourage you to have compassion for one another and to care for yourselves and those around you during this difficult time."&nbsp;</p>
