She claimed the family was irritated by him despite her attempts to reason with him to cease. According to Maira Hashmi, it didn't seem right for her to put up with this behaviour any longer.<br />

Maiwand was killed in Jalalabad in Afghanistan. Her killing is another sign of growing violence in Afghanistan despite peace talks between the USA and Taliban.</p>

<p>Prominent Afghan figures including journalists, clerics, politicians and rights activists have been killed in recent months.</p>

<p>Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial governor, and the local hospital confirmed the killings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nangarhar province and its capital Jalalabad have seen regular clashes between government forces and the Taliban. The extremist Islamic State group has also claimed several deadly attacks in the province.</p>

<p>The murder of Maiwand, who was in her 20s, comes just weeks after Radio Liberty reporter Aliyas Dayee was killed in a car bomb attack in Lashkar Gah.</p>

<p>Human Rights Watch said Dayee had previously been threatened by the Taliban.</p>

<p>A former television presenter in Kabul, Yama Siawash, was killed in a similar car bomb attack near his home last month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>No group has so far claimed these murders.</p>

<p>Afghan forces are battling an increase in violence in the country, much of it unleashed by the Taliban as they attempt to gain leverage in peace talks in Qatar, which opened in September.&nbsp;<br />

<p>A Hyderabad-based woman journalist named&nbsp;Kavitha Jakkal and a woman activist&nbsp;Rehana Fatima had begun their walk&nbsp;towards Sabarimala temple on Friday morning while the&nbsp;woman journalist reportedly said&nbsp;that she was going to Sabarimala Sannidhanam to carry out her "professional duty".</p>

<p>Police had thrown a security ring around the two women who had requested security to go to Sabarimala Sannidhanam, reported news agency ANI.</p>

<p>Protesters&nbsp;surrounded the temple as the two women made their way towards the temple. The women&nbsp;would have become the first from the menstruating age group&nbsp;to visit the Sabarimala temple of Lord Ayyappa after the Supreme Court order permitted women of all age groups to enter the shrine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The journalist accompanied by her male colleague, a foreigner, had descended the hills from Marakkoottam area in the face of mounting protests.</p>

<p>A case has been registered against devotees who allegedly prevented her trekking and forced her to climb down the hills.</p>

<p>A New Delhi-based woman journalist was stopped midway by devotees opposing the entry of women of menstrual age into the hill shrine on Thursday.</p>

Both women decide not to enter Sabrimala temple amid protests; priest decides to shut premises and leave

<p>A 36-year-old news anchor working with a local Telugu news channel allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a residential apartment complex, over a "family dispute," police said today.</p>

<p>The incident occurred late last night and the deceased has been identified as V Radhika Reddy, who was under "depression due to some family dispute" with her husband and was now staying at her parents' house, they said.</p>

<p>"After her duty, she came to the house and at around 10:40 pm yesterday she went to the top floor of the building and jumped.<br />
She suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot," Kukatapally Police Station Inspector V Prasanna Kumar told.</p>

<p>A suicide note purportedly written by her was found in her bag, which stated that she was under "depression" and that no one was responsible for her death and that the brain was her enemy, he said.</p>

<p>She was married around 12 years ago and had two children, but apparently due to some family dispute with her husband she was not staying with him, the police said adding based on preliminary investigation it was found that due to some family issues she was under depression and it was one of the reasons for her to resort to the extreme step.</p>

<p>Police ruled out any foul play behind the incident.</p>

<p>A case was registered and the woman's body was shifted to a state-run hospital and a post-mortem will be conducted today, they said.</p>
