IndiGo announced that all its flights to and from Dibrugarh in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/no-one-can-take-away-your-rights-unique-identity-prime-minister-assures-assam-on-citizenship-amendment-bill-267780">Assam</a> are cancelled for Thursday due to unrest in the state.

"Due to the prevailing situation in Assam, flights to/from Dibrugarh are cancelled for today. Flyers can choose an alternate flight or get a refund," IndiGo said.

SpiceJet also said it is offering refund and waiver of cancellation or change fees for all flights to and from Guwahati and Dibrugarh till Friday.

Other airlines like Vistara and GoAir also announced the cancellation of flights to these two cities and waiving of cancellation or rescheduling fee.

An official at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport said that all flights between Kolkata to Dibrugarh sector have been cancelled due to the current situation in Assam.

In Assam, Guwahati and Dibrugarh districts have been placed under indefinite curfew till further orders in the wake of protests after the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The administration had suspended mobile Internet services for 24 hours from 7 pm on Wednesday in ten districts of the state&nbsp;Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Kamrup (metro) and Kamrup.

Amid the unrest in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured the people of the state that "no one can take away their rights, unique identity and beautiful culture".

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 sailed through the Parliament after Rajya Sabha passed it on Wednesday. As many as 125 members of the Upper House voted in favour while 105 MPs voted against the Bill, which was passed by Lok Sabha earlier this week.

The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zoroastrian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

The Jet collapse, which has also pushed up domestic prices, led Vistara to add 6 Boeing Co 737s to its previously all-Airbus SE A320 fleet to fill a supply gap. Vistara said it would use the 737s on flights to Singapore.

"Commanding a premium for a premium product is hard to do. From our perspective, we invested in order to see the business grow internationally. If you look at the results of&nbsp;Indian&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;their performance is better internationally."

Promotions such as $50 one-way tickets on the two-hour flight from Mumbai to Delhi are easy to find and, with&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;expected to take delivery of more than 500 aircraft over the next five years, pressure on fares and profits is increasing.

India&nbsp;is one of the cheapest domestic airline markets in the world, with an average fare of 13 cents per kilometre flown, according to data from travel firm Rome2Rio, less than half the 27 cents per km average in China and the United States.

Only 0.3 per cent of the 1.3 billion population currently travel abroad for a holiday every year, a fraction of the estimated 100 million&nbsp;Indians who could potentially afford to do so, according to an analysis of household income by aviation consultancy, CAPA.

The international market is dominated by foreign carriers but the market share of&nbsp;Indian&nbsp;airlines including Air&nbsp;India&nbsp;and Jet Airways has been climbing, helped by policies that limit access by foreign carriers, and reached about 38 per cent in 2017, up from 31 per cent a decade earlier.

Foreign&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;such as Emirates and Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways have reached the limit of flights into&nbsp;India&nbsp;allowed under bilateral agreements and New Delhi has not extended additional rights, creating an opening for domestic carriers to grow, said Binit Somaia, director for South Asia at CAPA.

"Demand is there, income levels are rising and people want to travel internationally," he said.

Jet Airways is considering launching new flights from Mumbai to Sydney, two sources with knowledge of the matter said, while Vistara is planning to order six Boeing Co 787 aircraft and will expand its narrowbody fleet of Airbus A320neos as it starts international flights, sources have said.

A Jet Airways spokesman said the airline "continuously reviews its fleet and network plan ... to realise greater synergy with its business strategy."

DOMESTIC COMPETITION

In the domestic market, which provides crucial connections for international flights,&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;have been jockeying for position at a time when one-time leader Air&nbsp;India&nbsp;has been losing market share to rivals with far lower costs, such as IndiGo.

The&nbsp;Indian government last month failed to attract a single bidder by the deadline for its 76 per cent stake sale in the loss-making national carrier.

Revenue per available seat kilometre, a measure combining&nbsp;airfares and seats filled, has been falling at&nbsp;Indian&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;due to stiff competition at a time when the oil price has risen nearly 50 percent in the last year.

IndiGo last month reported a steep fall in quarterly profit due to higher fuel prices and continued pressure on yields, a proxy for&nbsp;airfares.

IndiGo has lifted the proportion of its capacity dedicated to international flights to 15 per cent, from 11 per cent, in the last year and is seeking regulatory approvals needed to operate long-haul flights, Rahul Bhatia, the company's chairman, said during an analyst call.

SpiceJet and IndiGo are the only two listed&nbsp;Indian&nbsp;airlines&nbsp;to post a profit for the last 13 quarters consecutively.

Analysts say SpiceJet has achieved this by maximising its aircraft utilisation and also flying less competitive routes where it can have a better control over fares, helping protect yields.

Even so, it plans to expand its international flights as it starts taking delivery of its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from August. The planes, which have a range of six hours and can reach destinations such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, will mainly be deployed on international routes.

The primary city airport is the main base of Jet Airways for its both domestic and international operations.

Jet Airways cancelled 70 flights, including 54 domestic services, Air India decided not to operate 34 flights in view of the runway closure.

Jet Airways also rescheduled 70 flights, including 17 international ones, while Air India diverted four flights.

Jet Airways also announced a list of rescheduled and cancelled flights on its website.

SpiceJet and GoAir said they cancelled 18 and seven flights respectively, while Vistara said it did not operate six services.

On an average, there are 970 flight arrivals and departures at the Mumbai airport every day.

Passengers who are travelling during the time of 11am to 5 pm are advised to contact airline first to confirm the timings.

Earlier this year, several flights were cancelled and rescheduled at the primary international airport of Mumbai after a similar shut down carried by Mumbai International Airport Limited.

Reports say that Chhatrapati Shivani Maharaj International Airport is India's second busiest airport in terms of total passengers. It comes on number 14 on the list of the busiest airport in Asia.

The airport's passenger traffic crossed 45 million in 2016-17.

A mid-air disaster was averted in the Mumbai air space when a Vistara aircraft came perilously close to an Air India plane, prompting the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to launch a probe.

The AI flight captain has written in her resolution advisory report that the aircraft was just 100 feet away when it was taken to a safer distance.

The collision was averted after an automatic warning alerted the pilots of the two planes of being in close proximity to each other, an official said.

The commander of the Air India flight acted swiftly on the instrument warning and steered the aircraft to a safer distance, a senior official of the airline said.

The two pilots of the Vistara flight have been grounded, pending investigation, while the Air India pilots have been cleared for flying by the AAIB for not being at fault, the official added.

Vistara confirmed the incident and said both its pilots have been taken off flying duty, pending investigation.

&quot;In this particular incident, the resolution advisory (by the Traffic Collision Avoidance System or TCAS) got triggered due to conflicting traffic. Our pilot followed the standard operating procedure to avoid it and carried out an uneventful landing. The matter is under investigation by the relevant authority,&quot; a spokesperson of the Vistara said.

TCAS is an on-board equipment that advises pilots regarding the traffic in the proximity of the aircraft and also prescribes what action a pilot can take to maintain the desired separation between the aircraft.

&quot;The Air India aircraft was going as per the ATC instructions. There was no confusion. But it seems that something had gone wrong between the Vistara pilot and the ATC as the Vistara aircraft kept descending while the ATC was giving different instructions. There was some kind of an argument between them,&quot; the Air India official said.

&quot;The Vistara aircraft continued descending. So, finally, when our pilot saw the warning (the Vistara aircraft breaching the mandatory separation) on board, she just took the corrective action and turned the aircraft from the collision point,&quot; the airline said.

The Air India pilot&#39;s action was perfect as she followed the resolution advisory and steered the aircraft to a safer distance, it added.

Vistara today submitted its final probe report to aviation regulator DGCA on the incident of a man allegedly molesting an actress onboard a Delhi-Mumbai flight this week, an airline source said today.

Following the incident on December 9, one Vikas Sachdev was arrested for allegedly molesting the actor.

The source said the airline has submitted its final investigation report into the incident to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

According to the source, the detailed probe report was prepared after talking to all the people concerned in the incident, including the actress, crew and ground handling staff.

Earlier, the airline had submitted an initial report to the DGCA.

The source also said that no action has been taken against any staffer as no one has been found guilty of any violation.

When contacted, Vistara spokesperson was not available for comment.
