Pompeo's remarks come amid differences between the UK and the United States over allowing China's Huawei 5G network to operate in Britain.

After the Johnson government gave the go-ahead for limited use of Huawei's 5G network, Pompeo had urged the British government to "relook" its implementation.

The United States had expressed doubt to the UK government over intelligence-sharing if the UK allows Huawei's 5G to operate. Pompeo said he would "evaluate what the United Kingdom did" referring to the China Huwaei announcement.

Huawei has consistently denied it is engaged in espionage.

The European Union also allowed Huawei's 5G infrastructure, however, it added it would closely monitor it as it urged countries to "assess the risk profile of suppliers (and)... apply relevant restrictions for suppliers considered to be high risk" accordingly, including shutting them out of "key assets defined as critical and sensitive".

The European body also recommended EU states avoid "major dependency on a single supplier" and "dependency on suppliers considered to be high risk".

Speaking to a tech-heavy crowd in San Francisco, Pompeo trumpeted the "phase one" deal to tame a two-year trade war but told businesses that they needed to do more.

"At the same time, we need to make sure that our companies don't do deals that strengthen our competitor's military or tighten their regime's grip of repression in parts of that country," he said.

Rights advocates have voiced growing concern about China's use of technology to develop intrusive electronic surveillance.

In the tightly controlled western region of Xinjiang, where experts say more than one million mostly Muslim people are incarcerated, China is said to be fine-tuning technology that will allow security forces to quickly identify anyone and give details about their movements and background.

"Ask yourselves just a few questions — who am I dealing with? What's the true risk/return calculus to doing business in China?" Pompeo said.

Trump is set to sign the partial deal on Wednesday after prolonged feuding, dropping new tariffs that were set to take effect on Chinese electronic products and cutting in half those imposed on September 1 on $120 billion worth of products.

The White House has said the agreement includes improvements on Beijing's requirements that foreign companies transfer technology -- which the United States say is a pretext for rampant intellectual theft.

The Trump administration says that the accord will also give US companies better access to the Chinese market for financial services and require China to buy more US products.

"We will do our part in the government. We will keep ramping up our enforcement," Pompeo said.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran -- Saudi Arabia's arch foe -- have soared since US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of a nuclear deal with Iran last year and imposed punishing sanctions.

Twelve months on from the US withdrawal, Iran responded by suspending some of its commitments under the nuclear deal.

The Trump Administration wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lower trade barriers and embrace fair and reciprocal trade, the United States said Tuesday hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in New Delhi on a three-day visit, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

"There is enormous potential to grow our trade relationship and create the high-quality jobs that Prime Minister Modi wants if India lowers trade barriers and embraces fair and reciprocal trade," according to a State Department Fact Sheet.

"The Trump Administration is working to ensure that American companies operating in India have the same level playing field that Indian companies enjoy in the United States," it said.

The State Department said as India's number one overseas market, the US purchases close to one-fifth of its exports. India is also the fastest growing major market for US goods.

Pompeo's visit to India is aimed at deepening strategic relationship with the largest democratic country of the world, the US said Tuesday.

"Prime Minister Modi's sweeping mandate in the recent elections creates a unique opportunity to realize this vision," it said hours after Pompeo landed in New Delhi on a three-day visit.

Pompeo's visit comes days ahead of PM Modi's meeting with US President Trump in Osaka, Japan on the sidelines of 14th G20 summit and the second JAI trilateral - Japan, America and India.

This is the first high-level US visit to India after PM Modi took charge of his second term this year. Pompeo arrived in New Delhi last year for the 2+2 dialogue wherein the defence and foreign ministers of both the countries held meetings.&nbsp;

His meeting with PM Modi began at 10 am. After his meeting with the prime minister, Pompeo met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at around 12 pm. Both will have a working lunch, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

Later in the day, Pompeo will make an "India policy speech" in the evening.

Sources familiar with internal US&nbsp;government reporting on the attacks told Reuters that while investigations are ongoing, U.S. agencies believe the group that carried out the attacks had sympathies and possibly contacts with the Islamic State movement.

US&nbsp;agencies are collecting information on the attackers’ relationship with Islamic State and are trying to determine if there was any involvement in the attacks by what remains of the militant group’s central organization, which scattered following its eviction from territory it controlled in Syria, the sources said.
