A US court ruled Friday (Nov 22) that United States President-elect Donald Trump's criminal sentencing in hush money trial will be postponed indefinitely—potentially until after he leaves office. The sentencing was originally scheduled for November 26.

"It is... ordered that the joint application for a stay of sentencing is granted to the extent that the November 26, 2024 date is adjourned," said Judge Juan Merchan in an order.

In a one-page decision, the judge said that Trump's legal team could file their submissions for dismissal of the case by December 2, while the prosecutors were given a week to file their submissions.

Earlier this month, Trump's lawyer told the court that there was a strong case for dismissing the trial altogether. On the other hand, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said the jury's verdict must be taken into consideration.

In May, a New York jury found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts in the hush money trial, in which he faced four years in prison.

More and more Indian students in the United States are taking up babysitting jobs as they feel the heat of the cost of living crisis and other part-time job opportunities get scarce. According to a Times of India report, the students are taking off-campus jobs even if it’s illegal, to make ends meet.

Babysitting jobs have become a hot topic especially among girls, due to a safe environment and additional perks like food, accommodation or both. The trend is more visible among students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and they are mostly catering to Indian families based in the US. The pay scale varies from place to place but is generally low due to an oversupply of job seekers.

According to a report by Open Doors 2024, there are approximately 39,000 Indian students in Texas, 20,000 in Illinois, 13,500 in Ohio, and 7,000 in Connecticut, and 50 per cent of them are Telugu-speaking.

The United States "fundamentally rejects" a decision by the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant, the White House said Thursday. "We remain deeply concerned by the Prosecutor's rush to seek arrest warrants and the troubling process errors that led to this decision. The United States has been clear that the ICC does not have jurisdiction over this matter," a National Security Council spokesperson said. The statement made no mention of an ICC arrest warrant also issued for Mohammed Deif, the military chief of Hamas. US: Migrant's Desperate March Before Donald Trump's Return

Hundreds of migrants left the Mexican city of Tapachula on foot Wednesday, aiming to arrive at the US border before President-elect Donald Trump -- who has vowed massive deportations -- takes office in January.

The group of about 1,500 people set out from Tapachula in southern Mexico in the early morning hours for a walk of some 2,600 kilometers (over 1,600 miles).

"My mentality is to get there, I want my (asylum) appointment before he (Trump) takes power," Colombian Yamel Enriquez told AFP.

"If I don't get the appointment before, I will give myself over to whatever God wants."

Venezuelan Zuleika Carreno joined the exodus with the same single-minded purpose.

She said she decided not to postpone her departure "for fear of getting stuck on this side" of the border, which would mean her laborious travels so far would have been "in vain."

Trump, who won an election in which illegal migration was a top issue, has vowed to declare a national emergency on border security and use the US military to carry out a mass deportation of undocumented migrants.

Authorities estimate that some 11 million people are living in the United States illegally, and Trump has stoked concerns by claiming an "invasion" is underway by migrants he says will rape and murder Americans.

On Wednesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her government was preparing a document highlighting the contribution of workers from her country to the US economy.

Migrants who amass in Mexico from a variety of troubled countries with a view to a better life in the United States frequently organize group movements known as "caravans" in a bid to pressure authorities into giving them temporary Mexican visas.

Sticking together also reduces the risk of criminal attacks, but the migrants groups usually disperse along the way.

US President-elect Donald Trump will likely choose Johns Hopkins surgeon and writer Martin Makary to lead the Food and Drug Administration, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.

Makary raised concerns about a number of public health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, touting the protection from natural immunity and opposing COVID vaccine mandates.

The FDA is the world's most influential drug regulator with a more than $7 billion budget. It is responsible for approving new treatments and assuring they are safe and effective before entering the biggest and most lucrative market. It has regulatory authority over human and veterinary drugs, biological medicines, medical devices and vaccines.

The agency is also responsible for maintaining safety standards for the food supply, tobacco, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.

To lead HHS, Trump has nominated Robert F Kennedy Jr, an environmental activist who has spread misinformation about the safety of vaccines and one of several unconventional Trump picks for top administration jobs.

The woman was only identified as "Jane Doe" in the 22-page long report released by the city attorney’s office of Monterey, California on Wednesday (Nov 20).

The alleged assault took place after a Republican women's conference at the Hyatt Hotel in Monterey, California, on October 8, 2017.

The report further highlighted some alleged details of the incident, stating how Hegseth was "very intoxicated" and was "giving off a creeper vibe".

However, Hegseth had repeatedly said that their encounter was consensual and he made sure the woman "was comfortable with what was going on between the two of them.”

Seems like, seven years after the alleged incident, such questions about Hegseth could hinder his nomination.

His attorney has said that Hegseth later entered into a settlement agreement with his accuser in 2023, with an undisclosed monetary payment and a confidentiality clause.

Hagseth said that his encounter with the woman was consensual, however, the lawyer said he was doubtful that the woman was about to accuse him during the #MeToo movement which might have have taken his Fox News job away.

“This police report confirms what I’ve said all along, that the incident was fully investigated, and police found the allegations to be false, which is why no charges were filed,” Timothy Parlatore, Hegseth’s attorney, told CNN on Wednesday night.

However, the records did not include copies of the video footage or a memorandum from the Monterey County district attorney’s office that could prove why Hegseth was never charged.

The accuser later told a hospital nurse that she “was not sure, but believes that something may have been slipped into her drink, as she cannot remember most of the night’s events,” and the nurse passed that on to police, according to the report.

The report added that the accuser had been drinking “much more than normal” that day.

The officers reviewed surveillance video from the hotel, showing the accuser and Hegseth “walking together, with arms locked together” leaving the bar and heading toward the hotel pool, with her smiling.

The accused told police that she argued with Hegseth near the hotel pool, an account that is supported by a hotel staffer who was sent to handle the disturbance and spoke to police, according to the report.

According to the report, the accuser recalled Hegseth telling her that he was “a nice guy” during the exchange.

However, in Hegseth's statement to police, he had no memory of the altercation by the pool.

The next memory Doe had was being in an unknown room with Hegseth. "Doe remembered having her phone and Hegseth inquired to whom Doe was texting,” the report said. “Hegseth took her phone from her hands. Doe stated she got up and tried to leave the room, but Hegseth blocked the door with his body. Doe remembered saying ‘no’ a lot.”

As per the report, Doe’s next memory was getting back to her room where she got into bed with her husband.

Hegseth’s account said that Doe led him by the arm back to his hotel room, which surprised him because he initially had no intention of having sex with her, the report said, adding that he found it "odd" that Doe did not leave his room.

Hegseth, according to the report, “continuously asked Doe if she was okay because he did not want Doe to get in trouble.”

He further told police that Doe "showed early signs of regret" the next morning, but did not explain further.

Ukrainian armed forces fired British-made Storm Shadow long-range missiles inside Russia for the first time on Wednesday (Nov. 20).

The residents in the village of Marino, Kursk, found fragments from a Storm Shadow missile, reported the Telegraph.

This comes after US President Joe Biden administration permitted Ukraine to use US-made long-range missiles to target inside Russia.

Earlier, Russia also launched a counteroffensive in Kursk, which was invaded by Ukrainian troops in August.

Earlier, the Ukrainian armed forces carried out their first strike in a border region within Russian territory with an Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missile.

The Russian defence ministry had claimed that Kyiv fired six US-made ATACMS at Russia’s Bryansk region, adding that five of these missiles were downed and the sixth was damaged.

How do Storm Shadow missiles work?

Storm Shadow missile is an Anglo-French cruise missile with a maximum range of around 155 miles (250 km). It carries a bunker-busting warhead and flies low and fast to evade air defences.

After launch, the weapon, equipped with its navigation system, descends to a low altitude to avoid detection before locking on to its target using an infra-red seeker.

On the final approach, it climbs to a higher altitude to maximise the chances of hitting the target.

Moreover, it travels at speeds of more than 600 mph, is just over five metres long, and has a wingspan of three metres.

Till now, Storm Shadow missiles have been used by Ukraine inside its territory for some time. However, now, Ukraine has been given a green flag for using long-range missiles inside Russia.
