All 50 members of the Democratic caucus along with 12 Republicans voted to start a debate on the bipartisan bill.&nbsp;

However, as per the procedure once the bill is passed through the Senate it will require to be passed again through the House. After this, it will go to the President who will sign it into a legislation.&nbsp;It is interesting to note this comes in the backdrop of US elections vote counting where Republicans are projected to win a majority in the House. In view of this, the Democrats supporters of the bill are hoping to get the legislation passed by the end of the year.&nbsp;

After US Supreme Court struck down Roe vs Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that enshrined the constitutional right to abortion, the advocates of same sex were fearful. However, now there is hope that the rights of those in same-sex marriage would be protected.&nbsp;

The bill would not make mandatory for all states to legalize same-sex marriage but it would require individual US states to recognize another state’s legal marriage.&nbsp;An individual state could still pass a law to ban same-sex marriage in case Supreme Court overturns its 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalised same-sex marriage.&nbsp;

He added that for now, the city needs to support Mayor-elect&nbsp;Bass and give her support to tackle issues.&nbsp;

Bass's motives will grow stronger once she will take charge succeeding Eric Garcetti as the 43rd mayor of Los Angeles.&nbsp;

She said, "We have reached a point where the rankings process is undermining the core commitments of the legal profession," noting that the school&nbsp;"has taken the top spot every year" since the rankings began. "As a result, we will no longer participate."

The officials further said that the rankings list discourages universities from admitting low-income background students. For example, one such measure is "reputation" or how the college deals with rival colleges. The critics argued that this has little to do with the college's ability to educate its students. Another instance critics found was that it&nbsp;reinforces&nbsp;income inequality, hence reducing&nbsp;diversity among students.&nbsp;

Yale's alumni include former US President Bill Clinton and four of the US Supreme Court judges.&nbsp;Both also have a budget to help students from low-income backgrounds. Harvard's plan stands at&nbsp;$50 billion while that of Yale is around&nbsp;$41 billion.&nbsp;

The US News and World Report were earlier criticised after the University of Colombia submitted inaccurate data to bolster its ranking. Yale and Harvard law schools withdraw from US News annual rankings over 'profoundly flawed' methodologies

On Tuesday, United States’ retail giant Walmart offered to pay $3.1 billion to settle the lawsuits against the company for the damage caused by prescription opioids sold at its pharmacies. This comes weeks after the country’s largest pharmacy chains, CVS Health and Walgreen Co. proposed a similar $5 billion each settlement.&nbsp;

In a statement, the Arkansas-based Walmart said that it “strongly disputes” the allegations put forth by state and local governments in the lawsuits accusing its pharmacies of not adhering to the standards of filling the prescriptions for the powerful prescription drugs.

They believe that the settlement is in the “best interest of all parties and will provide significant aid to communities across the country in the fight against the opioid crisis, with aid reaching state and local governments faster than any other nationwide opioid settlement to date.” However, the company has not admitted any liability with the lawsuit.&nbsp;

While local governments can sign on by March, next year the amount received by each state partly depends on the number of local governments that agree. Currently, the governments are in the midst of devising spending plans, said a report by Associated Press.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, lawyers representing the local governments have said if finalised the company must pay most of the settlement over the next year. In a statement, New York Attorney General, Letitia James said the retail giant would also have to comply with oversight measures, work on the prevention of fraudulent prescriptions and flag any suspicious ones.&nbsp;

US: Walmart proposes to pay $3.1 billion legal settlement for opioid lawsuits

The 26th&nbsp;edition of the multinational maritime exercise 'Malabar 22' culminated in the seas off Japan on 15th&nbsp;November. Hosted by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), this edition of Malabar also marked the 30th&nbsp;anniversary of the maritime exercise. The exercise began in 1992, as a bilateral exercise between the Indian Navy and the US Navy. Later, the exercise gained further prominence with the joining of navies of Australia and Japan.

For a period of five days, the sea-phase of Malabar 22 was conducted near Yokosuka, Japan and witnessed live weapon firings, surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills and tactical procedures. Another highlight of the sea phase was the conduct of 'War at Sea' exercise, which enabled all four navies to consolidate interoperability and hone tactical skills.

The Indian Navy was represented by Eastern Fleet ships INS Shivalik and Kamorta, led by Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Fleet. 'Sea Riders' is a nautical term that refers to the practice of Officers and sailors from one ship, sailing on another vessel (of a foreign country) during the exercise, in order to exchange best practices.&nbsp;

After a slight slump in sales during the beginning of the pandemic, companies are reporting impressive numbers as people spend the money they saved during months of lockdowns.

The pent-up demand is co-related with the explosion of high net-worth individuals after the recovery from the pandemic. According to research by the investment bank Credit Suisse, there are now a record 218,200 people classed as ultra-high net worth (UHNW), with assets of more than $50m.

Chief executive of Moët Hennessy Philippe Schaus has said that 2022 would be “a fabulous year” for its champagne.

“We are running out of stock on our best champagnes. As people are coming out of Covid, there’s been pent-up demand for luxury, enjoyment and travelling,” Schaus told Bloomberg at New Economy Forum in Singapore on Tuesday.

The White House in a statement clarified that the meeting wasn’t related to ending the war.

"He is not conducting negotiations of any kind. He is not discussing settlement of the war in Ukraine," the statement said.

"We firmly stick to our fundamental principle: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine," it said.

The CIA chief’s message was "on the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia," and the risk of "escalation to strategic stability," the White House said in a statement.

This comes at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin has been repeating his rhetoric on the possibility of using tactical nuclear weapons in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
