“The Chapitos pioneered the manufacture and trafficking of the deadliest drug our country has ever faced,” Anne Milgram, the US&nbsp;Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief, said at an April 14 press conference in Washington.

“They inherited a global drug empire and made it more ruthless, more violent and more deadly,” she added.&nbsp;

Los Chapitos issued a public statement for the first time ever, disputing assertions that they sell fentanyl and refuting claims made by American officials during the Washington press conference.

“We have never produced, manufactured or marketed fentanyl or any of its derivatives. We are victims of persecution and they made us a scapegoat,” the brothers said in the letter,&nbsp;published by Mexican news outlet Milenio late on Wednesday.

The brothers denied leading the Sinaloa Cartel and said that drug dealers and the media had used their father's fame to falsely accuse them of crimes they had not committed.

El Chapo has been imprisoned in a Colorado "Supermax" prison for the rest of his life. Guzmán's American lawyer, Mariel Colón Miro, stated that because of restrictions preventing him from communicating with the media, her client was unable to comment on the matter.

Gentner Drummond, the attorney general of Oklahoma, has reexamined the case and requested a new trial on the basis that the prosecution withheld facts concerning his accuser that would have strengthened his defence.

Throughout his 26 years in prison, Glossip, 60, and his family have maintained his innocence by asserting that Sneed acted alone. After his initial conviction in 1998 was overturned in 2001, Glossip was found guilty once more three years later.

Lucky again: US Supreme Court halts Oklahoma man Richard Glossip's fourth execution attempt

A 24-year-old former Marine who put Jordan Neely, a subway rider in New York City, in a fatal chokehold has defended his actions, claiming he and the other commuters were acting in self-defence.&nbsp;Daniel Penny sent his sympathies to Neely's family in a statement sent by his lawyers on Friday.

Homicide has been identified as the reason for his death. His death has not yet been the subject of any charges, reported the BBC.

The incident has raised awareness of criminal activity and homelessness in public transport.

"We would first, like to express, on behalf of Daniel Penny, our condolences to those close to Mr Neely," his lawyers said in a statement issued to US media.&nbsp;

Neely, a 30-year-old homeless impersonator of Michael Jackson, "had a documented history of violent and erratic behaviour," according to the statement, which they claimed was "the apparent result of ongoing and untreated, mental illness."

"Daniel never intended to harm Mr Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death," it added.

Police and the Manhattan district attorney are presently considering whether to file charges. Homicide is defined as a death brought on by another person, however, it is not necessarily a murder.

The incident occurred on Monday&nbsp;late afternoon on the F-line train in Manhattan's SoHo neighbourhood.

The 30-year-old man was allegedly acting abnormally, and the former Marine is shown holding him around the neck for two minutes and 55 seconds in a video that was recorded on the train by a freelance journalist.

His arms are also seen being restrained by two other passengers. The man is seen afterwards lying motionless on the ground after all three of them eventually released go of him.

During the altercation with Neely, Penny instructed other passengers to dial 911, according to police, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

The grand jury will reportedly convene the next week to decide whether there is sufficient proof to file charges, according to the network. Penny would likely contend that his response was appropriate in order to defend himself if charges are filed.

Experts told the New York Times that in order for Neely to be found guilty, the prosecution must demonstrate that Neely employed deadly force without Neely being believed to have been similarly prepared.

After the chokehold killing, protests were conducted calling for an arrest to be made.

The school has been placed on a hard lockdown due to a police investigation. Students are safe in their classroom. We will provide additional updates as information becomes available," said Amador as quoted by&nbsp;Fox5Vegas.&nbsp; 
 
The condition of the adult injured was not immediately clear. However, the&nbsp;LVMPD said an adult male staff member was struck by gunfire and taken to University Medical Center, reported local media.&nbsp; 
 
It was later confirmed that the staff member was a&nbsp;campus monitor by the&nbsp;Education Support Employees Association, A campus monitor&nbsp;is reportedly&nbsp;supposed to&nbsp;ensure school safety by patrolling the school.&nbsp;

Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara said "Thankfully, no students were injured in today’s incident at Von Tobel Middle School, and our hearts are with our staff member and their family as we pray for a speedy recovery."

"The school has been cleared by law enforcement and there are no additional injuries at this time. CCSDPD (Clark County School District Police Department)&nbsp;is coordinating a controlled release of students. The suspect is still outstanding," said the LVMPD, in an update.&nbsp; 
 
According to local media reports, at least&nbsp;three schools in the area were on lockdown, including two nearby elementary schools. The police have also&nbsp;advised people to avoid the area if possible, as the suspected shooter remains at large.&nbsp;

The US-Saudi Arabia brokered talks have also been dubbed as the “pre-negotiation talks” by the two countries.&nbsp;

A Saudi diplomat source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that both sides consider themselves “capable of winning the battle”. As of Monday, the source also told the news agency that the discussions had yielded “no major progress,” adding that a “permanent ceasefire isn’t on the table”.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said that they are pushing to expand negotiations and reach a “permanent cessation of hostilities”. The talks in Jeddah, which are “set to continue&nbsp; 
“in the following days”, aim to reach “an effective short-term halt” to the hostilities while also facilitating aid delivery and restoring basic services.&nbsp;

Air strikes continue across Khartoum&nbsp;

Media reports, on Monday, indicate that sound of air strikes and clashes echoed anew across the capital city. A southern Khartoum resident told AFP that their family could hear “the sound of airstrikes which appeared to come from near a market in central Khartoum”.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the United Nations said, almost 200 people have been killed in West Darfur state over the past two weeks. There was also an incident of “large-scale” looting at the World Food Programme in Khartoum over the weekend, said a UN spokesperson, on Monday.&nbsp;

The ongoing fighting has already displaced 335,000 people and created in excess of 120,000 refugees who have fled north into Egypt, west to Chad, and to South Sudan. This comes as the UN has raised multiple warnings over the widening humanitarian crisis in Sudan.&nbsp;

According to a proposed rule change from the Office of Investment Security at the Treasury Department, the assent of the US&nbsp;government would be mandatory before any foreign company&nbsp;or individual attempts to buy property within 100 miles of the military base in North Dakota and seven other bases in California, Texas, South Dakota, Iowa, and Arizona.

The proposed rule would give the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which assesses commercial contracts between American companies&nbsp;and foreign investors for any potential impact on national security, more authority to look into land sales close to the eight military installations. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Registry, as per an NBC report.

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Monday (May 8) said that it was very important to stabilise relations between China and the US after 'erroneous words and deeds' put a spanner in the process of normalising relations. In a meeting with US Ambassador Nicholas Burns in Beijing, &nbsp;the Chinese minister said that the US must correct its handling of the Taiwan issue and stop undermining 'one China' principle.

China considers Taiwan to be its own territory and has not ruled out use of force to capture the democratically-ruled island nation.

Last year, relations between the US and China were especially strained when Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the US House of Representatives paid an official visit to Taiwan. China had retaliated by severing formal communication channels with the US.&nbsp;

"The top priority is to stabilise Sino-U.S. relations, avoid a downward spiral and prevent any accidents between China and the United States," Qin told Burns, the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement.

There was a brief thaw in relations between the two countries last November when US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met at a G20 Summit in Indonesia. Both leaders pledged more frequent dialogue.

The relations quickly soured after a Chinese high-altitude balloon appeared in US airspace. America shot down the balloon and Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancelled scheduled visit to Beijing.

"A series of erroneous words and deeds by the United States since then have undermined the hard-won positive momentum of Sino-US&nbsp;relations," Qin said with respect to his discussion with Burns.

"The agenda of dialogue and cooperation agreed by the two sides has been disrupted, and the relationship between the two countries has once again encountered cold ice."

Burns, in a post on Twitter about his talks with Qin, also spoke of the need to bring stability to the relationship.

"We discussed challenges in the US-China relationship and the necessity of stabilising ties and expanding high-level communication," Burns said.
