Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump once again kicked up his degrading rhetoric against migrants, calling them "animals", "not humans" and "mental patients" during campaign rallies in Michigan and Wisconsin on Tuesday (Apr 2).

<h2>If I don't win…</h2>

Trump in Michigan listed, at times in graphic detail, several criminal cases involving suspects that have entered the US illegally.&nbsp;

"They're sending prisoners, murderers, drug dealers, mental patients and terrorists, the worst they have in every country all over the world. This isn't just in South America. They're coming from the Congo, from Yemen, from Somalia, from Syria. They come from all over the world. China. Many of them are military age, which is very strange."

He warned people that violence and chaos would consume America if he didn't win the upcoming November 5 election.

"If we don't win on November 5th, I think our country is going to cease to exist. It could be the last election we ever have. I actually mean that we don't win, I think this could be the last election we ever have. That's where our country's going," he said.

Speaking about Lake Riley, a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student allegedly murdered by an illegal Venezuelan illegal immigrant, Trump said some immigrants were sub-human.

"The 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia who was barbarically murdered by an illegal alien animal. The Democrats say, 'please don't call them animals, they're humans.' I said 'no, they're not humans, they're animals'," said the Presidential candidate.

<h2>Biden a threat to democracy: Trump</h2>

Calling rival Joe Biden a "threat to democracy," Trump in Wisconsin reiterated that his losing the election will mean that the 2024 elections will be the last in US.

He vowed to stop the "invasion" of "prisoners", "murderers", "drug dealers", "mental patients", and "terrorists", and said that the worst of every country would come to the United States.

"Joe Biden is so weak on the border that other countries are now publicly taunting and extorting him by pumping migrants across our wide-open border," he said.

As per Reuters, while Trump regularly claims immigrants crossing the borders in Mexico have escaped from prisons and mental asylums in their home countries, there is no proof that they are fuelling the crime rate in the US. Even though data is sparse, researchers stress that illegal migrants do not commit crimes at a higher rate than American citizens do.&nbsp;

U.S. factory data surprised everyone and expanded for the first time since 2022. Thanks to a surge in output and an increase in new orders, the ISM manufacturing index shocked everyone by entering growth territory, halting 16 straight months of contraction. In addition, climbing input costs suggest a revival in inflationary pressures.

Inmates in New York have filed a lawsuit against the state corrections department over its decision to lock down the prisons during the total solar eclipse which will take place next Monday (April 8) and will be seen across Mexico, the United States and Canada.&nbsp;

<h2>About the lawsuit</h2>

The suit was filed last week in a federal court in upstate New York by six inmates incarcerated at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility, saying that the lockdown violates their constitutional rights to practice their faiths.&nbsp;

The six inmates included men from varying religious backgrounds and one atheist, who had prior permission to view the rare phenomenon. “A solar eclipse is a rare, natural phenomenon with great religious significance to many,” their complaint reads, as quoted by the Associated Press.&nbsp;

The complaint also noted that before the announcement of the lockdown, one of the plaintiffs, an atheist, received special permission last month to view the eclipse using glasses that would be provided by the state.&nbsp;

Subsequently, four men sought permission but were denied since a solar eclipse is not listed as a holy day for their religions. The request by the sixth inmate, according to the lawsuit, never received a response.

<h2>What does the lockdown order say?</h2>

The department’s acting commissioner, Daniel Martuscello III, issued a memo earlier this month saying that all correctional facilities will operate on a holiday schedule on April 8.&nbsp;

In line with this, incarcerated individuals will remain in their housing units except for emergencies from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (local time) around the time when inmates typically have their outdoor recreation, said the lawsuit.

The memo also said that the department will distribute solar eclipse safety glasses for staff and those incarcerated at prisons in the path of totality so they can view the eclipse from their assigned work location or housing units.

<h2>About the upcoming total solar eclipse</h2>

During a total solar eclipse, the moon completely blocks the face of the sun for a brief period known as totality. Around 32 million Americans who are located along the 185-kilometre-wide path of totality will have the chance to view the celestial spectacle.

The upcoming celestial event is also a historic one since another total solar eclipse won’t be visible across the contiguous US again until August 2044.&nbsp;

A live TV show host on Friday (Mar 29) created a stir when she aggressively tossed her script on air while addressing former US President Donald Trump's comments about a judge's daughter on social media.&nbsp;

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace, during her show, said, "We need to change the conversation."

"I've reported breaking news about gag order requests due to threats against judges and their children more times than I can count today."

Wallace, along with former federal Judge Michael Luttig, MSNBC's John Heilman, Lisa Rubin, and Glenn Kirschner,&nbsp;denounced Trump&nbsp;and accused the former US president of using the "highest court in the land" to delay "every federal criminal trial."

"Donald Trump brazenly and repeatedly attacks not just judges," Wallace said.

"Judges don’t have Secret Service protecting them. What are we going to do differently, because Donald Trump sure as hell isn’t changing," she added.

Trump's ultimate aim, Luttig said, was to "delegitimise" the judiciary. &nbsp;

“Judge Juan Merchan is totally compromised and should be removed from this TRUMP Non-Case immediately. His Daughter, Loren, is a Rabid Trump Hater, who has admitted to having conversations with her father about me, and yet he gagged me,” Trump wrote.

A teenager showed&nbsp;symptoms of "significant cognitive impairment" following a fight&nbsp;near her high school last month in the US. Kaylee Gain suffered critical injuries when she was violently thrown on&nbsp;the pavement during the altercation on March 8, resulting in a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.

Gain, a Missouri resident, was assaulted by a 15-year-old student from her school, who has been arrested and charged with assault. According to the New York Post, the assailant repeatedly hit&nbsp;her head against concrete blocks near Hazelwood East High School in Spanish Lake.

In a surprising turn of events, the White House has told journalists to stop stealing from United States President Joe Biden's official aircraft, Air Force One.

A detailed probe into the widespread theft by the White House press corps caused a stir in the US capital on Friday (Mar 29).

“For years, scores of journalists — and others — have quietly stuffed everything from engraved whiskey tumblers to wine glasses to pretty much anything with the Air Force One insignia on it into their bag before stepping off the plane,” reported newspaper Politico.

The White House Correspondents' Association issued a stern warning to its members via an email stating that the items the journalists stole from the press cabin as souvenirs did not go unnoticed.

The US president is always accompanied by 13 journalists in his Boeing whenever he travels outside for official purposes.

Their travel expense, along with the meals and drinks served in-flight, are taken care of by the media outlets.

Little packages of M&amp;M’s chocolates with the presidential seal and the US leader's signature are handed out by the crew as memorabilia.

Items like glasses and other Air Force One-branded accessories are also available for purchase online.

However, Politico’s report noted that the press section aboard the president’s official plane was not contended by this and highlighted that sounds of plates and glassware could be heard rattling from their respective luggage as they got off.

In an instance, as mentioned in the report, a former White House correspondent who worked for a prominent newspaper once threw a dinner party where he served food on a set of gold-rimmed Air Force One plates that had been stolen over time.

The report further said that one journalist paid heed to the severe criticism from the correspondents' association and returned an embroidered pillowcase following a meeting with a press official in a park across from the White House.

“The pillowcase changed hands, and that was that.”

Microsoft will sell its chat and video app Teams separately from its Office product globally, the US&nbsp;tech giant said on Monday, six months after it unbundled the two products in Europe in a bid to avert a possible EU antitrust fine.

The European Commission has been investigating Microsoft's tying of Office and Teams since a 2020 complaint by Salesforce-owned competing workspace messaging app Slack.

Teams, which was added to Office 365 in 2017 for free, subsequently replaced Skype for Business and became popular during the pandemic due in part to its video conferencing.

Rivals, however, said packaging the products together gives Microsoft an unfair advantage. The company started&nbsp;selling the two products separately in the EU&nbsp;and Switzerland on Oct. 1 last year.

"To ensure clarity for our customers, we are extending the steps we took last year to unbundle Teams from M365 and O365 in the European Economic Area and Switzerland to customers globally," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

"Doing so also addresses feedback from the European Commission by providing multinational companies more flexibility when they want to standardise their purchasing across geographies."

Microsoft said in a blogpost that it was introducing a new lineup of commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites that do not include Teams in regions outside the EEA (European Economic Area) and Switzerland, and also a new standalone Teams offering for Enterprise customers in those regions.

Starting April 1, customers can either continue with their current licensing deal, renew, update or switch to the new offers.

For new commercial customers, prices for Office without Teams range from $7.75 to $54.75 depending on the product while Teams Standalone will cost $5.25. The figures may vary by country and currency. The company did not disclose prices for current packaged products.

Microsoft's unbundling may not be enough to stave off EU antitrust charges which will likely be sent to the company in the coming months as rivals criticise the level of the fees and the ability of their messaging services to function with Office Web Applications in their own services, sources said.

Microsoft, which has racked up 2.2 billion euros ($2.4 billion) in EU antitrust fines in the past decade for tying or bundling two or more products together, risks a fine of as much as 10% of its global annual turnover if found guilty of antitrust breaches.
