But for the Tories, this marked an inauspicious start. Sunak's "Clear Plan. Bold Action. Secure Future" seemed to be getting lost in the sound of the Labour Party's new anthem "Things can only get better".

The experts are calling it a 'wipe-out' election, as Sunak is appearing to move towards his doom and the Conservative Party is expected to win far fewer seats.

<h2>Is Sunak losing the ground?</h2>

At the beginning of the campaign, Sunak found himself in hot soup when he walked away from commemorations in France which marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion - a step which was not taken in good taste by the people.

Since then, Sunak has been seen travelling across the country, knocking on the doors of houses and meeting with people, giving speeches and attending various events in which he is making a promise for a better future.&nbsp;

Sunak also failed to remove the taint of political chaos and mismanagement on the party, in the wake of the Tories getting investigated for betting on the election date by using inside information.&nbsp;

He has also failed to wash off his hands from Conservative leader and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's partygate scandal, which has further hurt the party's reputation.

Throughout his election campaign - in which he held discussions with factory workers, spoke about the welfare of farmers, shook hands with army men, underlined his Hindu religious sentiment by visiting BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, played football and re-painted his "family man" image - he failed to answer one simple question - why is the election happening this summer.

Even various Tory candidates have expressed their frustration at how he is running the campaign, which they have called the “worst campaign in our&nbsp;lifetime”.

Sunak, whose one Instagram post read "It's not over until it's over", was seen hunting for support from people among the robots at an ungodly hour of 4:50 am on the last day.&nbsp;

As the day drew to an end, Sunak said that his party had not given up on winning the elections. The statement came even before elections were set to be held.

As Tories predicted the biggest “landslide majority” for the Labour Party on the last day of the campaign, Sir Keir Starmer blew his trumpet from Carmarthenshire, as he loudly and clearly said, "Change can only happen if people vote Labour tomorrow".

For the Labour Party, local campaigning remained their focus and also emerged as their core strength. Starmer toured 'safe' rural Conservative seats and appealed for a complete majority to bring the changes.

He visited rural Buckinghamshire, a traditional Tory heartland, just three days before the elections - which experts labelled as a winning step.&nbsp;

At this time, the voters are upset over various issues - which are the poor performance of the hospitals, local governments running out of money with Birmingham declaring bankruptcy, prisons reaching their breaking point and living standards dramatically dropping.

Starmer and his Labour Party are attempting to win the ground by promising solutions to both economic and social problems while offering hope to people in exchange for votes; quite an act of virtuosity in the field of politics.

The incident comes days ahead of the United Kingdom general elections, which will be held on July 4, as candidates are making their final pitch to the voters.&nbsp;

Farage did not notice the banner with a picture of a beaming Putin giving a thumbs-up with the words “I (heart emoji) Nigel” written below as it was being lowered.&nbsp;

It wasn’t until some people in the audience began laughing that he saw the banner and said “Who put that up there?” adding, “Someone at the Columbine Centre needs to get the sack.”

The stunt was carried out by an activist group called Led by Donkeys that posted the video of it on their X account with the caption, “We just dropped in on Farage’s election rally with a beaming picture of Putin. Nigel was not pleased.”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Keir Starmer went head-to-head on Wednesday in their last debate before an election next week, with both launching highly personal attacks over their and their parties' credibility.

With Sunak's Conservatives trailing Labour by around 20 points in the polls, the prime minister went on the attack, accusing Starmer of not being straight with the country on migration, tax and women's rights, and urging voters not to "surrender" to the Labour Party.

Starmer responded that Sunak was too rich to understand the concerns of most ordinary Britons. A snap YouGov poll said the debate had been a tie, with both on 50%.

“I had no knowledge of the date of the election until the day it was called…I placed no bets in May and am not under investigation by the Gambling Commission,” he told the British broadcaster.&nbsp;

Nigel Farage's Reform UK Party overtook Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservatives in an opinion poll for the first time on Thursday ahead of Britain's election on July 4.

The poll by YouGov for the Times newspaper put Reform UK on 19 per cent, up from 17 per cent previously, and the Conservative Party unchanged on 18 per cent. The opposition Labour Party topped the poll with 37 per cent.

The survey of 2,211 people was carried out June 12-13, after Sunak pledged to cut 17 billion pounds ($21.70 billion) of taxes for working people in his party's election manifesto.

Reform's poll rating has risen since Farage, best known for his successful campaign for Britain to leave the European Union, said he was returning to frontline politics, taking over leadership of the party and standing for election to parliament.

"This is the inflection point. The only wasted vote now is a Conservative vote, we are the challengers to Labour and we are on our way," Farage said in a video posted on X.

A small right-wing party, founded in 2018 as the Brexit Party, Reform backs populist causes such as tougher immigration laws.

Asked if the trend would stick, a Conservative lawmaker who declined to be named said: "Yes. I think people are fed up with the Tories (Conservatives), but not with Conservatism. So they are moving to another Conservative party."

Sunak's campaign has also been hit by sharp criticism after he left D-Day memorial events in France earlier than other world leaders.

Other opinion polls show the Conservatives much further ahead of Reform.

Despite overtaking Sunak's Conservatives in Thursday's poll - which reflected the share of a nationwide vote - Reform is not forecast to win many, if any, parliamentary seats.

Its support is spread comparatively evenly across the country, whereas backing for the larger and more established parties is more concentrated by geographic areas.&nbsp;

Britain has a first-past-the-post electoral system, meaning Reform could pick up millions of votes across the country without winning any of parliament's 650 individual constituencies.
