Though various exit polls show that BJP was leading in the state, the regional party of Tipra Motha has also played out an impressive show. Tipra Motha was founded by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the scion of the erstwhile royal family. He is all set to play a key role in the formation of the next government in Tripura. A total of 259 candidates competed against each other in the electoral race for a seat in the Tripura assembly. Out of these 259 candidates, only 20 were women candidates. BJP contested 55 assembly seats with its ally IPFT fielding candidates in six constituencies. The CPI (M) contested 47 seats and the Congress fought in 13 constituencies. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) fielded nominees in 28 constituencies. The remaining 58 candidates contested independently. The ruling BJP has fielded the highest number of women candidates with 12 women. The Tipra Motha contested 42 seats. As voting is underway, all eyes are on the BJP. In Meghalaya, NPP was ahead on 25 seats. Meanwhile, UDP and Congress, led on nine and five seats respectively. BJP and NPP went to elections separately after a five-year alliance. Though the parties have been in talks, it is still unclear if there will be a post-poll alliance. As for Tripura, BJP is expected to get another term, having destroyed CPM's 35-year rule in the state in the last assembly polls.
