The National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s rally 'Prajagalam' was briefly disrupted on Sunday evening (March 17) after a group of people ascended a light tower to listen to their leaders speak.

However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotted people climbing atop the structure with lights attached to it and immediately interrupted Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan in the middle of his speech urging them to get down.

"There are electric wires. What are you doing there? Your life is precious to us. Please come down. Media persons have taken your photographs. Now come down. Police personnel deployed here, please take care of people. It would be painful for us if something untoward happens," PM Modi said while urging the group to come down for safety.

PM Modi took part in the NDA rally 'Prajagalam' with the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan for the very first time in Palnadu district.

'Prajagalam', which stands for 'voice of the public' is the first joint public meeting of NDA partners in Andhra in a decade.

PM Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress accusing the the party of "using and throwing the people of the alliance".

While addressing the public rally, the Indian prime minister said that the NDA "carries both regional aspirations and national progress".

"In NDA we take everyone along, but on the other hand, there is Congress party which has only one agenda - to use and throw the people of the alliance. Today Congress may have formed an INDI alliance, but their thinking remains the same," he said.

PM Modi further said that the NDA's aim is to build a developed Andhra Pradesh for developed India.

"NDA alliance carries both regional aspiration and national progress. The support of BJP in this election, our partners are continuously increasing, the strength of NDA is increasing, both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have been supporting the rights of the people here, for a long time. We have been working for you day and night, for the development of Andhra Pradesh. The aim of NDA is to build a developed Andhra Pradesh for developed India," the PM said.

He then reiterated the NDA's goal to surpass 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

"See this coincidence, this time the results of the elections are going to be declared on 4th June. The whole country is saying, '400 paar'. '400 paar' for developed India, '400 paar' for Andhra Pradesh'..." he said.

The 350-metre (1,155-feet) Lotus Tower, dubbed South Asia’s tallest structure, built for an estimated US$113 million with Chinese debt is all set to commence operations on September 15 in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo city.

This huge green and purple communications tower is one of several “white elephant” projects built with Chinese loans under Mahinda Rajapaksa, brother of ousted president Gotabaya Rajapaksa who had to flee in July following months-long protests over Sri Lanka’s dire economic crisis.&nbsp;

Its construction began in 2012 and has been plagued by corruption claims since then.&nbsp;According to reports, Mahinda wanted to copy Beijing’s 405-metre Central Radio and TV tower.

State-owned Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company, which manages this tower, said they are opening its observation deck for visitors from Thursday and seek to earn from ticket sales to mitigate losses as the maintenance cost is huge.

“We can’t keep this closed. The maintenance costs are huge. We want to earn the upkeep of the building and turn this into an entertainment centre,” chief executive Prasad Samarasinghe told reporters, according to AFP news agency.

This tall structure is majorly financed by Chinese loans to the tune of $ 88.65 million, while the rest has been borne by the Sri Lankan government.

According to the president’s office, the loan instalments are due to be completed by 2024, and around $66 million has been repaid.

However, many broadcasters say that the communications tower is of no use as it can neither cover the island nor improve current transmissions from a mountain in the centre of Sri Lanka.

On Monday, a local media outlet called it a “towering story of pride and waste”.

Chinese-built Lotus Tower in Sri Lanka all set to open this week

Fire ripped through a 20-storey residential building in&nbsp;Milan, northern Italy, on Sunday, leaving rescue workers scrambling to make sure no one had been caught in the spectacular flames and thick smoke.

The blaze started on the upper floors of the tower on the southern outskirts of the capital of the Lombardy region.

"The flames then spread to the lower levels," causing thick smoke, the fire services said on a Twitter account.

Residents of the building which houses around 70 families were being contacted but no one had so far been identified as missing, they added.&nbsp;
