<p>In a bizarre turn of events, Indian discus thrower Vinod Kumar lost his bronze medal at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympic Games after being found not eligible to compete. He had finished third in the men's discus throw F52 class on Sunday (August 29).</p>

<p>Vinod Kumar had won the bronze with an Asian record of 19.91m throw, however, he was stripped of his medal after some competitors challenged the result.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After complaints, the discus thrower was put under review by a classification panel and it was deemed that he&nbsp;was not eligible to compete in that particular category.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"...The panel was unable to allocate the athlete Vinod Kumar from NPC India with a sport class and the athlete was designated as Classification not Completed (CNC)," the organisers said in a statement.</p>

<p>"The athlete is therefore ineligible for the Men's F52 Discus medal event and his results in that competition are void," it added.</p>

<p>The bronze medal has now been awarded to Aigars Apinis of Latvia, who threw his season's best 19.54m.</p>

<p>The F52 is part of a sports class where athletes compete in a seated position - either in a wheelchair or a throwing chair due to impaired muscle power, restricted range of movement, limb deficiency or leg length difference.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Athletes classified under F51-F53 have limited shoulder, arm and hand function to varying degrees and usually, no trunk or leg function.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 23-year-old from Sonepat in Haryana, who lost his left leg below the knee after he was involved in a motorbike accident in 2015.</p>

<p>The F64 category is for athletes with a leg amputation, who compete with prosthetics in a standing position.</p>

<p>Antil was an able-bodied wrestler before his accident which led to the amputation of his leg below the knee.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A para-athlete in his village inspired&nbsp;him to the sport in 2018.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Andrew Parsons, the president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on Monday (August 30) said that welcoming athletes from Afghanistan at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020 was his personal "best moment".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taekwondo athlete Zakia Khudadadi and discus thrower Hossain Rasouli were evacuated from the Afghan capital a week ago and landed in Tokyo on a flight from Paris.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Parsons said he was able to see them in-person after they arrived, and promised that the IPC would "provide everything in our capacity" to ensure "the safest" and "calmest" environment for them to focus on their competitions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We will provide everything in our capacity to make their (the Afghan Paralympians) lives, or their days here at the Paralympic Village, at the Paralympic Games, let's say, the safest, hopefully the calmest, but as something that they, moments that they could really focus on sport, and forget, for a few days at least, what they left behind, and the horror they have been through in their home nation," said Parsons.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I was asked now during a few interviews this morning, what was my, what was the best moment so far in these Games, and to me of course, personally, was the moment when I had the opportunity to welcome them at Tokyo," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ever since the insurgent group Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the future of sports in the country has become uncertain, especially women's participation.&nbsp;</p>
