Russia has added what it calls the international LGBT movement to the&nbsp;list of extremist and terrorist organisations, the state media stated on Friday (March 22).

The move was in line with a ruling by Russia's Supreme Court last November that said LGBT activists should be designated as extremists. Advocates for the LGBT community had expressed concern that this decision might result in arrests and legal action against them.

The list is maintained by an agency called Rosfinmonitoring that has powers to freeze the bank accounts of the more than 14,000 people and entities designated as extremists and terrorists. They range from Al Qaeda to U.S. tech giant Meta and associates of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The new listing refers to the international LGBT social movement and its structural units, state news agency RIA said.

As part of a shift under President Vladimir Putin towards what he portrays as family values that contrast with decadent Western attitudes, Russia has tightened restrictions over the past decade on expressions of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Among other steps, it has passed laws outlawing the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations and banned legal or medical changes of gender.

Earlier on Thursday,&nbsp;Russia gave orders to place two bar workers in police custody after they were accused of playing important roles in an “extremist organisation” under the country's legislation which criminalises the LGBTQ+ community.

This is the first time such a criminal case has been filed in Russia since the “international LGBT movement” was banned in November.&nbsp;

As per the court, the two bar workers will stay in police custody till May 18 and can face an imprisonment of upto 10 years, if convicted, as per the court.&nbsp;

Earlier, the two suspects were accused by the tribunal of “promoting non-traditional sexual relations among the visitors of the bar”.

In March, the bar was raided by law enforcement and the videos showing the humiliating detentions of some visitors of the bar were shared online.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in December 2022 expanded the 2013 law and criminalised any positive mention of LGBTQ+ people or relationships in the public.&nbsp;

The medical intervention and administrative procedures which helped people change gender were banned in Russia in July last year.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at three locations&nbsp;in India’s Kashmir region districts of Budgam and Srinagar&nbsp;on Wednesday (May 31). According to NIA, they cracked down once again on the newly floated terrorist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir and seized incriminating literature and several digital devices.&nbsp;

“The searches were conducted at three locations in the Kashmir valley, in the residential premises of sympathisers/cadres, hybrid terrorists and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked with the newly-formed offshoots and affiliates of several proscribed Pakistan-backed terror outfits, such as Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), AI-Badr, AI-Qaeda, etc,” said NIA.&nbsp;

The day-long raids and searches were conducted at locations in Srinagar and Budgam districts as part of the ongoing NIA investigations into the activities of the recently formed terrorist groups, including The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu &amp; Kashmir (ULFJ&amp;K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu &amp; Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers and PAAF.&nbsp;

“A total of 51 locations have been searched in recent days in connection with the terror conspiracy case (RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU), which was registered suo moto by NIA on 21st June 2022. The case relates to the hatching of a conspiracy, both physical and in cyberspace, and plans by the proscribed terrorist organisations to unleash violent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc. The plans are part of a larger conspiracy to carry out acts of terror and violence, by radicalising local youth and mobilising overground workers, to disturb the peace and communal harmony of Jammu and Kashmir,” said the Indian anti-terrorism agency.

Cadres and workers of the newly formed organisations have been found to be involved in the collection and distribution of sticky bombs/magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotic substances and arms/ammunition, etc. They are spreading activities related&nbsp;to terror, violence and subversion in Jammu and Kashmir, as per NIA investigations.&nbsp;

NIA also said that investigations have further revealed that Pakistan-based operatives are using drones to deliver arms/ammunition, explosives, narcotics, and so on, to their operatives and cadres in the Kashmir valley. These operatives are using social media to connect with the cadres and workers in India.

India: NIA cracks down on terror outfits across Kashmir, seizes incriminating material

The headquarters of several Palestinian human rights organisations in the occupied West Bank were raided by Israeli security forces on Thursday.&nbsp;

According to an AFP report, the military said that during the overnight raids, troops and police officials "closed seven institutions and confiscated property."

The state has previously designated six of them as "terrorist organisations" and is accusing them of channelling aid to militant groups, reports Reuters.

The Israeli military claims that the groups were used as a front&nbsp;by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz reaffirmed Israel's assertion that the groups had acted covertly to support the PFLP, which has carried out deadly assaults against Israelis and is regarded as a terrorist organisation by the US and the EU.

According to Gantz, "They also assist in raising funds for the terrorist organisation via a variety of methods that include forgery and fraud."

While nine European Union nations, said they will continue cooperating with the groups due to insufficient proof to support Israel's accusation, the US has reportedly requested more information on the factors contributing to the decision to shut down the groups.

US groups 'Proud Boys', 'The Base' labelled as terrorist organisations by New Zealand

Sonnenkrieg Division, a UK-based neo-Nazi group, will be effectively banned in Australia once its listing as a terror group is confirmed.

After that, the outfit will become the first far-right organisation to be listed as a terror group in Australia.

The Department of Home Affairs signalled that the Sonnenkrieg Division would join the current list of 27 proscribed organisations, which have so far been exclusively jihadist or separatist groups linked to the Middle East and Central Asia.

Australia's domestic spy agency has repeatedly sounded the alarm about the growing threat of far-right violence.

Since an Australian gunman killed 51 worshippers at mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch in 2019, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation has said the far-right threat had "increased" and become an "enduring threat".

But until now the country's conservative government has been reluctant to formally designate any organisations as terror groups.

The move means that being a member of the Sonnenkrieg Division or helping the organisation financially will be outlawed.

Home affairs minister Peter Dutton said the Sonnenkrieg Division, or SKD, had "a presence that we're particularly worried about in the UK".

"Their reach goes into the minds of young people and Australians here," he told Nine News.

Officials indicated the process of designating the group would be completed in the coming days.

Extremism experts at US-based George Washington University have described the Sonnenkrieg Division as "tiny" and an offshoot of much larger organisations.

The group did gain some notoriety in 2018 for suggesting Britain's Prince Harry -- whose wife is mixed race African-American -- was a "race traitor", leading to it being banned in Britain in February 2020.

British authorities said SKD was formed in 2018 as a splinter group of National Action, also known as the System Resistance Network.

Australia's opposition Labor party questioned why SKD -- which is believed to have only a dozen members in Britain -- was listed rather than several larger and more prominent organisations.

"They are a UK-based group that has little or no direct links to Australia," shadow home affairs minister Kristina Keneally said, calling for further designations.

Keneally said the government had "sought to dismiss, downplay or ignore the threat of right-wing extremism".

Authorities have warned that militant far-right groups are becoming more global, with ideologies being rapidly spread across borders via online message boards and other digital platforms.

In March 2020, Australia charged two men linked to the far right with attempting to obtain military equipment and plotting a terrorist act.

According to the Australian Federal Police, "the investigation also identified alleged social media links between one of these men and an individual in the United Kingdom".

Extremism experts at US-based George Washington University have described the Sonnenkrieg Division as "tiny" and an offshoot of much larger organisations. The group did gain some notoriety in 2018 for suggesting Britain's Prince Harry -- whose wife is mixed race African-American -- was a "race traitor", leading to it being banned in Britain in February 2020. British authorities said SKD was formed in 2018 as a splinter group of National Action, also known as the System Resistance Network. Australia's opposition Labor party questioned why SKD -- which is believed to have only a dozen members in Britain -- was listed rather than several larger and more prominent organisations. "They are a UK-based group that has little or no direct links to Australia," shadow home affairs minister Kristina Keneally said, calling for further designations. Keneally said the government had "sought to dismiss, downplay or ignore the threat of right-wing extremism". Authorities have warned that militant far-right groups are becoming more global, with ideologies being rapidly spread across borders via online message boards and other digital platforms. In March 2020, Australia charged two men linked to the far right with attempting to obtain military equipment and plotting a terrorist act. According to the Australian Federal Police, "the investigation also identified alleged social media links between one of these men and an individual in the United Kingdom".
