Riazat put on a crucial sixth wicket partnership of 35 with Juma Miyagi (13) which effectively won the game for the tournament debutants. But PNG will rue the moment that Riazat, on eight, was dropped by Charles Amini, who misjudged a relatively simple catch.

The Pacific Islanders had their work cut out trying to defend such a low total but were also undone in part by some loose bowling, conceding 15 wides. After that let-off, Riazat played a disciplined and focused innings until, with just three needed to win, he skied a catch to John Kariko at third man.

The Ugandans celebrated their victory with dancing on the edge of the field as the team, which beat out more established cricketing nation Zimbabwe to reach the tournament, picked up their first points.

T20 World Cup: ‘This is EA Cricket pitch’ - Fans angry over pitch and outfield used in India vs Ireland match

Max O'Dowd hit an unbeaten half-century to steer the Netherlands to a six-wicket victory over Nepal in their T20 World Cup Group D clash on Tuesday.

Set a target of 107 to win, O'Dowd anchored the Netherlands' run chase with 54 off 48 balls to see the Dutch over the line at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

The Netherlands finished on 109-4 off 18.4 overs, with Bas de Leede hitting the winning runs with a boundary to seal victory.

Vikram Singh supported O'Dowd with 22 runs while Sybrand Engelbrecht was the only other Netherlands batsman to make it into double figures with 14.

Nepal, meanwhile, were left ruing a trio of dropped catches that might have turned the game had they gone to hand, including skipper Rohit Paudel's missed chance to get rid of O'Dowd in the 18th over.

The Netherlands' modest victory target had been set up by a disciplined bowling display which restricted Nepal to 106 all out.

"Our bowlers were awesome up top," Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said afterwards.&nbsp;

"All five of our bowlers were brilliant. Ideally we would have got the runs a little quicker, but it was great the way Max batted, and Bassie finished it off well.

"We've got to play consistent cricket right way through this tournament."

Logan van Beek took three wickets for just 18 runs while Tim Pringle also claimed a trio of wickets, finishing with figures of 3-20 off four overs.

Rashid even stressed that Afghanistan are well prepared to handle the burden of expectations, emphasising that it is&nbsp;important for modern-day cricketers to perform under pressure.

In this regard, he stated, "Well, I feel in cricket there is always pressure. Either you play ICC events, or you play bilateral series, whatever the game you play, or any of the side against you play, there is always pressure. And for me, it's very simple. When there is pressure, you have to stick to your basics and you believe that basics what you can do and what is possible and what is under control."

"I feel that is more important than what people expect. So, the pressure will be there, but for us, and we need to keep it simple. We give 100% and you can't control that, like - the result. I think it's not under control. So, something not under our control, I feel like we better not think about it. And the pressure is always there, always there. But the more important thing is like, we stick to our basics, we do the right things, and we believe. I think that's the most important thing. I feel like we should do even under lots of pressure as well," Rashid added.

"There is a slim -- or no chance -- for him to be involved in the World Cup," Lama told AFP.

"The Cricket Association of Nepal had lobbied to the US embassy through different Nepal government agencies, but the visa was denied."

The decision comes as a huge setback for Nepal as they were competing in their maiden Major ICC event. Lamichhane last week admitted that it was “unfortunate” not to receive the US visa. The 23-year-old in his short cricket career was a sensation and played franchise cricket in the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

His exploits also saw him earn a place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played for Delhi Capitals. However, the player was charged for raping a young woman in a Kathmandu hotel in 2022.
