Commercial flights are routinely facing&nbsp;"jamming" or "spoofing" in the airspace around the Baltic Sea, as indicated by a recent report by Newsweek. Over the last couple of days, around 1,614 flights encountered consistent interference with national GPS signals.

The report is based on open-source analysis from an X account that keeps track of GPS interference.&nbsp;A map provided by this source indicated widespread disruptions over Poland and southern Sweden, although a subsequent update suggested that the interference became primarily concentrated in northern Poland.

Interfering with both GPS and broader Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals could potentially lead to confusion for both manned and unmanned aircraft, as their navigation systems might perceive inaccurate locations.

The increase in disruptions was attributed to jamming activities originating from Russia's Kaliningrad region, positioned between Poland and Lithuania and serving as a strategic location for one of Russia's major naval fleets.

According to an unnamed Lithuanian defence official interviewed by Newsweek, Russia is implicated in the matter. The official stated, "The Russian armed forces possess a diverse range of military equipment specifically designed for interfering with GNSS, encompassing jamming and spoofing, with varying distances, durations, and intensities."

<h2>A recurrent problem</h2>

Earlier this month, a pilot informed The Telegraph that the problem has become "more widespread" in airspace and areas where military operations or border tensions are on the rise.

"Every flight I operate across northern Turkey and into Iraq - essentially along the Russian and Iranian borders - now has GPS interference. Aircraft systems alert us when something isn't working. We often get numerous alerts in the space of a couple of hours. It's been like that for around a year now," the unnamed pilot said.

"The GPS interference spoofs the aircraft into not knowing its location. Thankfully, we have other systems to mitigate this issue," he added.

The pilot also noted that this issue could diminish some of the pilot's visual situational awareness.

"It's crucial to be aware of what's beneath us in the event of a rapid depressurization, which although rare, is a possible occurrence," stated the pilot, noting that airlines have adapted to this changing environment.

The paper's lead story with bold capital letters "unpresidented" &nbsp;said that Trump had resigned from the president's post.

According to the spoof paper&nbsp;story, Trump left his resignation on a napkin in the Oval Office and left Washington for Yalta, the Crimean resort that was the site of a meeting of allied leaders during World War II.

The fake story also reported that the resignation was triggered by the massive "woman-led protests" across the country.

The paper also said&nbsp;that after Trump's resignation, Mike Pence was sworn in as President.

The paper's stories and the PDF of the spoof newspaper were also published on a website that also imitated the Washington Post's homepage. The site reportedly has been taken down now.

A group called, "Trickster activist collective" later in the day revealed that they were behind the prank newspaper.

This is not the first time the group did something like this. In 2008 they had published a spoof copy of The New York Times with the headline in the front page reading, "Iraq war ends".

In 2009 as well they had published a fake edition of The New York Post.

Meanwhile, the official Washington Post in its public relations account on Twitter had said that they are "looking into the matter".

Indian Embassy telephone lines have been spoofed by fraudsters in the US to cheat people for money, according to an advisory issued by a mission which warned against entertaining any suspicious calls.

The Indian Embassy here has informed the US Government about it and launched its own internal investigation.

It also issued a rare public advisory on such fraud calls that has cheated people with money, thus bringing a bad name to the diplomatic mission.

&quot;These fraudsters either seek personal information like credit card details etc. Or try to extort money from Indian nationals by inter alia claiming that there are errors in their passports, visa forms, immigration forms etc. Which could be rectified by paying money, and at the same time warning that the so-called errors, if not rectified, could result in deportation of the individual to India or their imprisonment in the USA,&quot; the Indian Embassy said in its advisory.

Some of the Indian nationals living in the US, who received such call, brought to the notice of the Embassy that some fraudsters are spoofing Embassy of India telephone lines to make calls aimed at cheating people.

Some of these calls are shown as being from the Embassy telephone numbers while others simply use Embassy identity.

In some cases, these fraudsters also claimed that they received such information from the Embassy or other authorities in India. Visa applicants have also received such calls purporting to be from the Embassy.

The Indian Embassy has started collecting information from the public, including details of the Western Union account number or bank account details where the money was transferred.

In its advisory, the Indian Embassy said that none of its officials makes any telephone calls seeking personal information from any Indian or foreign nationals.

In case of any additional documentation is required from an existing applicant, it is sought only through emails originating from the official domain, it said.

It urged people living in the US not to entertain any suspicious telephone calls made in the name of Embassy of India. It also advised people not to reveal any personal information or transfer any money in response to such calls.

This is for the first time probably that fraudsters have been spoofing Indian Embassy phone numbers.

According to informed US government officials, in the past they have received similar complaints from other diplomatic missions as well, in particular, those from the European nations.

Officials said while the spoofing technology is easily available, it is tough to get to the origin of such phone calls. Americans have been frequent victims of such phone calls from call centres in India&nbsp;on behalf of the US Internal Revenue Service. In several joint operations in the last one year, Indian authorities have arrested scores of people making such fraud calls.&nbsp;

US authorities say his actions contributed to the market instability that led to the flash crash in 2010. The crash wiped nearly $1trillion off the value of US shares.

After losing a legal battle against his extradition from the UK, he was sent to the US, where &ldquo;spoofing&rdquo; is an offence, to face federal charges.

&ldquo;Spoofing&rdquo; is the practice of buying or selling with the intent to cancel the transaction before execution. (It is not a crime in the UK.)&nbsp;

Sarao agreed to pay the US government $12.9 million he earned in profits from his illegal trading. He made more than &pound;30 million in less than five years.
