Pawar ruled out an alliance between the BJP and the NCP, adding that his party has unanimously decided to ally with Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Congress.&nbsp;

Sharad Pawar meets PM Narendra Modi to discuss farmer crisis in Maharashtra

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal took to Twitter saying: "Congress President Sonia Gandhi spoke to Sharad Pawar today morning and deputed Ahmed Patel, Mallikarjun Kharge and myself for holding further discussions with Pawar."

He further said that the three leaders were going to Mumbai to meet Pawar at the earliest. On Monday evening, Sonia even after holding two crucial meetings with senior party leaders kept the Shiv Sena guessing over the Congress supporting it in Maharashtra to form the government.

The Congress yesterday stated it will hold "further discussion" with its alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which was all inclined to support the Shiv Sena in the state.

In the statement issued after the meeting chaired by Sonia, the party said: "The Congress Working Committee met on Monday and had a detailed discussion on the situation in Maharashtra after which consultation was held with Maharashtra Congress leaders. The Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) has spoken to Sharad Pawar. The party will have further discussion with the NCP."

On Monday, Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray also spoke to Sonia seeking her support to form the government. On Sunday, the Governor invited Shiv Sena to form government in the state after the BJP said that it was unable to form the government. The Congress yesterday stated it will hold "further discussion" with its alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which was all inclined to support the Shiv Sena in the state. In the statement issued after the meeting chaired by Sonia, the party said: "The Congress Working Committee met on Monday and had a detailed discussion on the situation in Maharashtra after which consultation was held with Maharashtra Congress leaders. The Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) has spoken to Sharad Pawar. The party will have further discussion with the NCP." On Monday, Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray also spoke to Sonia seeking her support to form the government. On Sunday, the Governor invited Shiv Sena to form government in the state after the BJP said that it was unable to form the government. The Governor then on Monday evening called on the NCP as the third-largest party in the state to attempt government formation.

The political deadlock in the Indian state of Maharashtra may come to an end soon. According to sources, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is ready to lend support to the Shiv Sena to form a government.

Reports say the final call will be taken in a day or two. It is believed that the deal between NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray has almost been finalised.

Sources say that the Congress party will lend outside support to the alliance.

The final decision, however, will be taken by Congress high command.&nbsp;

The latest reports come as the Governor has asked the Bharatiya Janata Party, the single largest party in the Maharashtra assembly, to make a decision regarding government formation.

The BJP and Shiv Sena, who are partners in the ruling alliance in Maharashtra, had fought the assembly polls together. While the BJP bagged 105 seats, Shiv Sena won 56 seats in the 288-member Vidhan Sabha. Shiv Sen also has the support of 7 independents.

The majority mark in Maharashtra is 144. With NCP's 54 seats and congress' 44, the tally of the alliance will reach 162- easily crossing the majority mark.

Even after getting the required numbers to form the government, there has been a delay in cobbling up a coalition owing to differences between the two parties on power-sharing.

Shiv Sena has insisted that the two parties had a '50-50' power-sharing agreement before the elections. But Devendra Fadnavis, former chief minister of Maharashtra, has said that Shiv Sena was not promised the chief ministerial post for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was sealed before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.&nbsp;
