<p>Later, he was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court for his alleged role in bomb blasts in Pakistan's Punjab province in 1990, a charge repeatedly denied by the Indian government.</p>

Unidentified gunmen in Pakistan kill Sarfaraz Tamba accused of killing India's Sarabjit Singh in prison

<p>Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda was&nbsp;deeply saddened upon hearing of the untimely demise of Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur. As he got the sad news, he immediately rushed to Punjab from Mumbai to perform her last rites. He had promised Kaur that he would be the one to&nbsp;light her funeral pyre because she considered him as close as her real brother Sarabjit.</p>

<p>Randeep and Dalbir Kaur formed a strong bond during the shooting of the 2016 film 'Sarbjit'. In the movie, the actor&nbsp;played the role of Dalbir Kaur's brother Sarabjit Singh, who was strayed into Pakistan in 1990 in a drunk condition and was kept behind the bars for 23 years with many serious allegations against him. He died on May 2, 2013, in a Pakistan jail following a brutal attack by one of the inmates.</p>

<p>During the film's shoot, Kaur had told Randeep that she sees Sarabjit in him and she requested him to give her `kandha` (offer his shoulder before taking the body to the cremation) when she dies.</p>

<p>Dalbir Kaur passed away due to a heart attack in Bhikhiwind near Amritsar, Punjab, on Sunday.</p>

<p>Randeep penned an emotional note on his Instagram handle for her. "<em>Ghar zarur aana </em>(do come home)<em>&nbsp;</em>was the last thing she said. I went, only she had left. Not in the wildest dream could one imagine that Dalbir Kaur ji would leave us so soon. A fighter, child like, sharp and devoted to all that she touched. She fought a system, a country, it`s people and her own to try save her beloved brother Sarbjit," he wrote.</p>

<p>"I was so fortunate to have her love and blessings and never to be missed Rakhi in this lifetime. Ironically the last time we met was when I was shooting in the fields of Punjab where we had created an Indo-Pak border. It was a chilly and foggy late November night but she didn`t care about all that. She was happy we were on the same side of the border," penned the actor.</p>

Randeep Hooda fulfills his promise to Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur, performs her last rites

<p>A Pakistani court on Saturday acquitted two prime suspects in the murder case of Indian national Sarabjit Singh in 2013 in the Kot Lakhpat jail here, citing "lack of evidence" against them.</p>

<p>The Lahore Sessions Court announced its verdict in the case which was pending for more than five years.</p>

<p>According to a court official, Lahore's additional district and sessions judge Muhammad Moin Khokhar acquitted the main suspects - Amir Tamba and Mudassar - after all witnesses turned hostile.</p>

<p>"Not a single witness testified in the court against both the suspects. The court acquitted them for lack of evidence against them," the official said.</p>

<p>He said both suspects made their presence in the court through a video link from the Kot Lakhpat Jail because of security concerns.</p>

<p>Amir and Mudassar, two Pakistani death row prisoners, attacked Singh, 49, in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail in 2013 resulting in his death.</p>

<p>In previous hearings, the judge had expressed his anger as the prosecution failed to bring forth prosecuting witnesses to record their statement.</p>

<p>One witness in the previous hearing told the court that Singh was brought to the Services Hospital in a critical condition.</p>

<p>"I wanted to record Singh's statement but the doctors stopped him, terming his condition very serious," the official quoted the witnesses.<br />
Singh died before recording his statement before the doctors.</p>

<p>A one-man judicial commission of Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi of Lahore high court had initially investigated Singh's murder case before the trial kicked off in the Sessions court.</p>

<p>Naqvi recorded the statements of some 40 witnesses in the case and submitted its report to the government which is yet to make its findings public.</p>

<p>The one-man commission had also issued notices to Singh's relatives through the foreign ministry to record their statements and produce any evidence they had regarding his death.</p>

<p>However, Singh's family did not record their statements, the officials had said.</p>

<p>Tamba and Mudassar, in their statements to the commission, had confessed to the crime and said they killed Singh as they wanted to avenge the killing of people in Lahore and Faisalabad in bomb blasts allegedly carried out by the Indian national.</p>

<p>India, however, maintains that Kulbhushan Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.</p>

<p>Kulbhushan Jadhav, 47, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April, following which India moved the ICJ in May. It is expected to hold another hearing in March or April.</p>
