<p>“Now is the moment for Britain to choose its future,” said Sunak describing that choice as one between stability with him and the unknown with Labour leader Keir Starmer, who will attempt to take power for his party after 14 years of Conservative-led government.</p>

<p>“Over the next few weeks, I will fight for every vote, I will earn your trust and I will prove to you that only a Conservative government led by me will not put our hard earned economic stability at risk,” said Sunak who will compete against Starmer in the upcoming elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The UK PM said that his government has a clear plan and is prepared to take bold action. He also went on to criticise the opposition and said, “I don't know what they offer – and in truth, I don’t think you do either.”</p>

A few days ago, in a lengthy note on Instagram, Manisha chronicled her journey of resuming work after battling ovarian cancer, portraying an important character in the lavish period drama, and getting her due as a female actor thanks to streamers.&nbsp;<br />

“Heeramandi has been a significant milestone. As a 53-year-old actor who has bagged an important role in a high-profile web series, I am overjoyed that I’m not stuck playing insignificant peripheral roles, thanks to OTT platforms and changing audience profiles. Finally, female actors, technicians, and other professionals have started getting the long overdue and well-deserved good quality of work and respect in a professional environment. I am fortunate to be a part of this evolving era,” Manisha wrote.<br />

Manisha recalled the doubts and anxiety that plagued her when she started shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial and added, “Today, when I am receiving so many accolades, I can’t help but remember the doubts and anxiety that plagued me when I was about to start shooting. Still recovering from the dreaded C, would my body be strong enough to deal with the intense shooting schedules, heavy costumes, and jewelry, and perform a role requiring so much nuance and effortless effort?”</p>

<p>Recalling the challenges she faced while shooting a particular scene, Manisha wrote, “The fountain sequence proved the most physically challenging. It required me to be immersed in a water fountain for over 12 hours. That tested my resilience! Even though Sanjay had thoughtfully ensured that the water was warm and clean, over the hours, the water turned muddy, (because my team members, the Cinematographer, and the art director’s team were getting into the water to work around the scene.) Every single pore in my body was soaked in that muddy water.”<br />

“Even though I was beyond exhaustion by the end of the shoot, I felt a deep happiness within my heart. My body had taken the stress and remained resilient. I knew I had passed a critical physical test,” Manisha continued.</p>

<p>More than 30,000 people in the United Kingdom were infected with viruses like hepatitis&nbsp;and HIV after they were transfused the tainted&nbsp;blood between the 1970s and early 1990s, as per the Infected Blood Inquiry.</p>

<p>The people who became victims of the blood scandal were those who needed blood transfusions in surgeries or after accidents, as well as those who suffered from blood disorders like haemophilia and were&nbsp;being treated&nbsp;with donated blood plasma products.</p>

<p>Speaking to the House of Commons, Sunak said,&nbsp;"I am truly sorry."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Time and&nbsp;again&nbsp;people in positions of power and trust had the chance to stop the transmission of those infections and failed to do so," Sunak added, as he promised&nbsp;"whatever it costs"&nbsp;will be compensated to the victims.</p>

<p>“This is a day of shame for the British state.&nbsp;Today’s&nbsp;report shows a decades-long moral failure at the heart of our national life – from the National&nbsp;Health&nbsp;Service to the civil service to ministers in successive governments at every level – that people and institutions in which we place our trust failed in the most harrowing and devastating way,"&nbsp;Sunak said.</p>

<p>“This is an apology from the state – to&nbsp;every single person&nbsp;impacted by this scandal. It did not have to be this way; it should never have been this way.&nbsp;And on behalf of this and every government stretching back to the 1970s, I am truly sorry,"&nbsp;he added.</p>

<p>The ministers&nbsp;are&nbsp;yet to announce how much compensation&nbsp;payment will&nbsp;be made&nbsp;to the victims and their families.</p>

<p>A UK businessman whose firm owns a government contract to transport and accommodate asylum seekers has seen his fortunes skyrocket over the last year. Graham King, 56, the founder and majority owner of Clearsprings Ready Homes, has now been named among the 350&nbsp;richest&nbsp;people in the UK. Clearsprings owns a 10-year Home Office contract for housing thousands of asylum seekers in the country.</p>

<p>The Sunday Times rich list revealed that&nbsp;King's&nbsp;overall wealth is estimated to be more than $950 million owing to&nbsp;“holiday parks, inheritance and housing asylum seekers for the government”. His firm Clearsprings saw its profits after tax rising to $80 million in the year ending January 2023, a rise of more than 100 per cent compared to the previous year.</p>

<p>India's&nbsp;Hinduja brothers claimed the top rank in&nbsp;the rich list, with an estimated fortune of&nbsp;$47 billion, up from around $40 billion last year.</p>

<p>“To make progress on these crises we must tackle inequality. The super-rich have spent centuries diverting wealth into their hands, making our democracy less responsive to&nbsp;people’s&nbsp;needs and damaging our communities. The result is we are poorer, sicker, less productive, unhappier, more polarised, and less trusting," added&nbsp;Nicholas.</p>

<p>British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and wife Akshata Murty, who made their debut in the annual 'Sunday Times Rich List' two years ago, have moved up the ranks in the 2024 edition released on Friday (May 17) thanks to Murty's lucrative Infosys shareholding.</p>

<p>"The couple's most valued asset is Akshata Murty's shareholding in Infosys, a Bangalore-based IT company co-founded by Akshata Murty's father [Narayan Murthy]," reads the newspaper's analysis.</p>

<p>The couple, both 44, have risen from 275th rank last year to 245th with an estimated wealth of&nbsp;651 million pounds, making them the "wealthiest people to call 10 Downing Street home".</p>

<p>Akshata Murty's earnings are said to far exceed that of her husband as financial statements published in February revealed that&nbsp;Sunak made 2.2 million pounds in 2022-23 compared to Murty's estimated 13 million pounds in dividends over the past year.</p>

<p>"Over the past year, the shares have grown in value by 108.8 million pounds to nearly 590 million pounds. The latest annual report suggests that Murty received about 13 million&nbsp;pounds in dividends during that time - adding to the more than a million pounds she has been paid in previous years. She is poised to receive another 10.5 million&nbsp;pounds&nbsp;this year," the paper notes.</p>

<p>Top of the list is British-Indian businessman Gopi Hinduja and his family, whose fortune of 37.2 billion&nbsp;pounds&nbsp;is the greatest in the ranking's history, followed by Sir Leonard Blavtanik and David and Simon Reuben and family, who have fortunes of 29.2 billion&nbsp;pounds&nbsp;and 24.9 billion pounds, respectively.</p>

<p>The top 10 of the 2024 'Sunday Times Rich List' sees another set of India-born brothers, David and Simon Reuben, build on their wealth to rise to third place from last year's fourth, with a fortune estimated at around 24.977 billion pounds.</p>

<p>At No. 8 is NRI tycoon of ArcelorMittal steelworks Lakshmi N. Mittal, who slipped&nbsp;two places from last year with an estimated 14.921 billion pounds, followed by Vedanta Resources' industrialist Anil Agarwal at No. 23 with an estimated 7 billion pounds - down one rank from 2023.</p>

<p>Other Indian-origin billionaires on the 2024 list include textiles entrepreneur Prakash Lohia at No. 30 with an estimated 6.23 billion pounds; retail majors Mohsin and Zuber Issa at No. 39 with 5 billion pounds; and pharma chiefs Navin and Varsha Engineer at 58 with 3 billion pounds .</p>
