<p>The conference titled 'Role of NEP-2020 in Transforming Higher Education' is being organised by the Ministry of Education.</p>

<p>The Governors' Conference is also being attended by education ministers of all states, vice-chancellors of state universities and other senior officials, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.</p>

<p>The statement noted that the NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century which was announced after 34 years of the previous National Policy on Education in 1986.</p>

<p>The NEP-2020 is directed towards major reforms in both school and higher education levels.</p>

<p>"The new National Education Policy strives for making India into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society. It envisions an India-centred education system that contributes directly to transforming India into a global superpower," the statement said.</p>

<p>It added that the comprehensive transformation the NEP aims will bring about a paradigm shift in the country's education system and create an enabling and reinvigorated educational ecosystem for a new 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' as envisaged by the prime minister.</p>

<p>Various webinars, virtual conferences, and conclaves on many aspects of the National Education Policy 2020 are being organised across the country.</p>

<p>The Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission had earlier organised a 'Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy-2020', which was addressed by Modi.</p>

<p>India and Australia signed five agreements on Thursday to boost investments and enhance cooperation in key sectors like disability, agricultural research and education as President Ram Nath Kovind met Australian Prime minister Scott Morrison in Sydney. Kovind, the first-ever Indian head of state to visit Australia, arrived in Sydney on Wednesday on the second leg of his two-nation trip.</p>

<p>External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that during the state visit of President Kovind to Australia, five agreements were exchanged in the presence of Marise Payne, Foreign Minister of Australia and Anantkumar Hegde, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, by High Commissioners of both countries.</p>

<p>The first agreement was for cooperation in the area of disability and to deliver services to the differently-abled. The second one was between Invest India and Austrade to facilitate bilateral investment. The third agreement was signed between the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute, Ranchi, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organisation, Canberra, to foster scientific collaboration and innovation.</p>

<p>The fourth one between the Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur, and the University of Western Australia, Perth, for cooperation in agricultural research and education while the last one was between the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, New Delhi, and the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane for a joint PhD agreement.</p>

<p>Following the meeting with President Kovind, Prime Minister Morrison announced the release of Australia’s response to the India Economic Strategy, a blueprint to transform the economic engagement. “This report provides a roadmap for our economic future with India,” Morrison said.</p>

<p>India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and offers more opportunity for Australian business over the next 20 years than any other single market, he said. The Australian government said it endorsed the report and provides in-principle support to its 20 priority recommendations. “Our work will focus on greater economic engagement targeting 10 Indian states and 10 key sectors while providing practical support for Australian businesses entering or expanding operations in India,” Trade Minister Simon Birmingham said.</p>

<p>Australia also pinpointed the initial implementation plan with key actions for next one year which will include agreements forged between Austrade and Invest India, the establishment of an Australia-India Food Partnership, opening up new opportunities for agri-tech and service companies and Australia-India Strategic Research Fund grants of up to Australian dollar 500,000.</p>

<p>The fund is designed to help researchers solve the challenges shared by both nations, including energy storage, marine science and plant genomics. Other actions include the expansion of the Australia-India Mining Partnership at the Indian School of Mines, connecting Australian companies to India’s mineral-rich northeastern states, supported by the new Consulate-General in Kolkata, engagement with airlines to increase direct flights through the Australia-India air services agreement.</p>

<p>Ministers across education, agribusiness, resources and tourism will oversee the progress of the government’s response and ongoing implementation of the India Economic Strategy. Morrison along with the ministers for trade and resources will join President Kovind at the launch of the Australian chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry – India Business Forum, which will serve as a platform for networking and policy advocacy for Indian businesses in Australia.</p>

<p>“I look forward to continuing discussing the opportunities presented in the India Economic Strategy with President Kovind, and how we can continue to work together to develop enhanced economic ties,” Morrison said. “Today’s steps are only the first on a long journey that will see Australia and India grow together,” he said.<br />

Virat Kohli, Mirabai Chanu conferred Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award

<p>&nbsp;A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district&nbsp;on Thursday.</p>

<p>The minor girl, who was accompanying her mother to a river, went missing for a while, after which she was found in nearby bushes, covered in blood.</p>

<p>The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical examination, reports of which suggested that she was raped. As per the police, the accused has been arrested. "We have registered the case and have arrested the accused.</p>

<p>Further investigation is underway," said circle officer S.K. Singh. Unnao had recently hit the headlines, when its MLA, Kuldeep Sengar, was arrested last month by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the charges of raping a minor.</p>

<p>In the recent past, there has been a surge in sexual crimes against minor girls. In January, an eight-year-old girl, who belonged to a nomadic Muslim tribe in Jammu and Kashmir`s Kathua, was allegedly abducted, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and killed.</p>

<p>In Indore, an infant below the age of one was allegedly raped and killed.</p>

<p>Taking cognisance of such crimes, President Ram Nath Kovind, on&nbsp;April 22, promulgated the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018, for effective deterrence against the commission of rape.</p>

<p>The ordinance seeks the death penalty for the rapists of girls below 12 years of age and stringent punishment for perpetrators of rape particularly of girls below 16 years, thereby strengthening the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.</p>

<p>President Ram Nath Kovind and KP Oli will also hold a meeting to discuss the range of bilateral issues of India and Nepal during the day.</p>

<p>After the reception, KP Oli spoke to media and said "friendship is most important & there is no comparison with friendship. Any treaty any agreement, everything starts from friendship. With our neighbours, particularly with India, we first expect friendship".</p>

<p>KP Oli will also make a visit to Rajghat to lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi.</p>

<p>After holding a meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss foreign policy, Oli will also hold a discussion with delegation-level officers of India and Hyderabad House.</p>

<p>Some development projects are also expected to be inaugurated today at the house.</p>

<p>Following the meet and inauguration, Oli is also expected to meet Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh in the evening.</p>

<p>With a message to walk the path together, President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday said India and Iran should join hands &quot;firmly and decisively&quot; to defeat the menace of terrorism and ensure peace, stability and security in the region.</p>

<p>In his speech at the banquet hosted in honour of visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Kovind expressed happiness over the deepening of relationship between the two countries.</p>

<p>He said, &quot;Our bilateral trade has expanded. Our energy partnership is growing. Iran&rsquo;s abundant hydrocarbon resources and India&rsquo;s rapidly growing energy demand provide new opportunities.&quot;</p>

<p>As developing nations facing similar challenges, India and Iran have much to share and gain from each other, Kovind said.</p>

<p>&quot;Our young people are our biggest strength. They are brimming with ideas, energy and entrepreneurship. We need to bring them together,&quot; the president said.</p>

<p>He said both the countries have shared interest in peace, stability and security in the region.</p>

<p>&quot;Terrorism poses a constant and daily challenge to our peace-loving society. Our people have been suffering its violent and inhuman brutality. Let us join hands, firmly and decisively, to defeat these forces.&quot;</p>

<p>The president said in Persian that Iran and India are very old friends and &quot;we wish to remain so ever&quot;.</p>

<p>Kovind started his speech with Rabindranath Tagore&#39;s views about Iran who had described Persia as an everlasting inspiration. The thought and wisdom of great Persian luminaries deeply moved him.</p>

<p>He quoted Tagore&#39;s letter to a friend in which he had said: &quot;Culturally speaking, Persia comes nearer to us than most Asian countries. In language, religion, literature and arts, we have very real affinity and all through the course of past history, communication of the mind has been constant.&quot;</p>

<p>The president said Tagore described Indo-Iranian people as &#39;one&#39; who like a giant river got divided into two streams, one finding its destination to the west of Hindukush and other pouring into the plains of India.</p>

<p>The president said on these strong and deep-rooted cultural links, both the countries have built a modern partnership.</p>
