With the Holy month of Ramadan coming to an end, Kashmir Valley has witnessed the most peaceful Ramadan in the last three decades. Since the start of the insurgency in the Union territory, the incidents of violence in the Kashmir Valley have been lowest during this Ramadan.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police say no major incident of violence or Law and Order has taken place across the Kashmir Valley in the last month.

''It was the most peaceful Ramadan this year. We saw no incidents of Violence in the Kashmir Valley during this holy month. Neither law and order nor any major encounter took place during this month, '' said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir.&nbsp;

According to data provided by security forces, In 2022 around 19 terrorists were killed in multiple operations in the Kashmir Valley during the month of Ramadan. There was also a series of attacks on civilians which included members of the minority community, Kashmiri Pandits in the month of Ramdhan.&nbsp;

The Ramadan of 2021 was more brutal and violent, as the number of casualties were much higher. Over 20 terrorists were killed in the over a dozen anti-terror operations in the Valley.&nbsp;

With peace prevailing in the Valley, the locals of the Union territory are happy. The restrictions on the Major mosques, including the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, were lifted this Ramadan and people were able to offer Shab-e-Qadr prayers after a gap of three long years in the mosque.&nbsp;

''It's God's grace that no violence took place during the month of Ramadan, the real message of Islam is about peace, Islam is does not teach us any violence. The day we learn Islamic teachings properly and learn humanity. We are so grateful, Islam never preaches violence, and I am happy we had a peaceful Ramadan, '' said Bashir Ahmad, Local.&nbsp;

However, the Political parties in the Kashmir Valley are questioning normalcy. Political leaders are saying that if there is peace, then what is stopping the government from holding elections in the Valley. They say the government of India should take advantage of this peace and begin the democratic process. They believe that a popular government in Jammu and Kashmir can make things better.&nbsp;

''Ramzan Sharif is one where such things don't happen, people are busy in prayers and asking god to forgive for their sins. If the government of India says everything is alright here, why don't they hold elections? Why not? If it's peaceful, then let's hold an election. What are they waiting for?, '' said Farooq Abdullah, Former Chief Minister of JK and Member of Parliament.&nbsp;

In 2018, the popular government led by BJP and PDP ordered the suspension of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of Ramadan. However, the terror groups did not stop and continued their attacks. An army soldier was kidnapped and later killed on Eid.&nbsp;

UAE astronaut Sultan al-Neyadi arrived at the space station on March 3&nbsp;and the only question boggling him is how will he be ending his fast, as he sees 16 sunsets daily at the space station. 
 
You must be wondering why 16.&nbsp;Here, is the answer. 
 
For centuries, a setting sun has signalled the end of fasting with delicious meals. But what if the sun's clockwork changes as it does for astronauts riding aboard the International Space Station? The orbiting laboratory whips around the Earth at the speed of 27,600 kilometres per hour (27,600 miles per hour) giving the traveller 16 sunrises and sunsets each day. Dizzy right? Well, it's true.&nbsp;

'It's not compulsory'

Sultan al-Neyadi is one of the few Muslim astronauts who have travelled to space, and his mission will end in five months. He then will be the first astronaut from UAE to complete a long-duration stay in space.&nbsp;

While al-Neyadi is in space, Muslims on Earth will be observing fast in Ramadan and till the time he'll return, they will celebrate two festivals — Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

At a press conference before his space travel, al-Neyadi had said that six months is a long duration for a mission, which is a great responsibility. He added that since an 'astronaut' fits in the definition of &nbsp;'traveller,' it excuses him from fasting during Ramadan. 
 
"It's not compulsory if you're sick. So in that regard — anything that can jeopardise the mission or maybe put the crew member at risk — we’re actually allowed to to eat sufficient food to prevent any escalation of lack of food or nutrition or hydration."

He added that he'll wait and see how it goes.&nbsp;

Religion in Space:

Back in 1968, during NASA's Apollo 8 mission, astronauts read Genesis, the first book of the Bible, on their way to orbit the moon. Buzz Aldrin, who was with Neil Armstrong during their first landing in 1969 also took communion from the Eagle lunar lander, by taking a sip of wine and a bite of bread blessed by a Presbyterian minister back in Houston, just before taking their first steps on the moon.&nbsp;

In 2007, Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, a Malaysian astronaut became the first practising Muslim to stay on the International Space Station and the Islamic National Fatwa Council of Malaysia issued special guidelines for him and other future Muslim astronauts.&nbsp;

The council also said that though his flight coincided with Ramadan, he can postpone until he returned to Earth or he could fast&nbsp;in accordance with the time zone of the place from which he had launched.&nbsp;

Among other religious observances that have taken place on board, include&nbsp;Christmas celebrations, Jewish holidays and Hanukkah.&nbsp;
