<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation in this year&#39;s first &#39;Mann ki Baat&#39; programme.</p>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann ki Baat: Highlights

<p>The cabinet Wednesday gave nod to the third batch auctions of private FM radio stations under phase-III.</p>

<p>Close to 683 private FM radio channels will be auctioned across 236 cities in subsequent batches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The move will facilitate an enhanced radio experience extended to cities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, some of the cities still have no access to private FM radio channels, this includes cities in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East, especially where the population is less than a lakh. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The FM auction will also cover districts hit by left-wing extremism.</p>

<p>Batch-I and II auctions, under phase-III of the FM Policy Guidelines, were approved by the Cabinet in 2011.</p>

<p>The roll-out was carried out in 2015 and 2016 respectively.</p>

<p>97 channels in 56 cities were sold in batch-I while 66 channels in 48 cities were sold in batch-II. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The complete roll-out of FM phase-III auctions will ensure private FM radio broadcasting to all 29 States and 6 out of the 7 Union Territories barring Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The move will also generate direct and indirect employment ensuring jobs to over 10000 people across the nation.</p>

<p>The auctions are like to yield an estimated revenue of more than ?1100 crores.</p>
