He compared the case against him to a Stalinist show trial, marking the harshest sentence imposed on an opposition politician since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

"I understand that lives of many people who ended up behind bars today because of their opposition to the regime, many lives are in danger," Evgenia Kara-Murza, advocacy director at the Free Russia Foundation, a civil society organisation said, as quoted by Reuters.&nbsp;

"That is not just my husband's life who is indeed a years-long opponent of the regime, but also the lives of strong and vocal opponents of Vladimir Putin," she added.

Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's most outspoken critic within Russia, died at the age of 47 in a prison camp on February 16. His death ignited accusations from his supporters, alleging foul play. However, the Kremlin has vehemently denied any state involvement in his death.

Evgenia Kara-Murza expressed concern for other activists, including Alexandra Skochilenko, who was imprisoned for protesting against the war in Ukraine by replacing supermarket price tags with anti-war messages, and Alexei Gorinov, a Moscow district councillor incarcerated for criticising Russia's invasion. These individuals, like her husband, are deemed to be at risk.

Vladimir Kara-Murza, who suffers from a neurological condition following two instances of poisoning attempts, was relocated to a new penal colony in Siberia in January and placed in solitary confinement, according to his wife's statement.

"Now he's being held by basically the same people who tried to kill him twice in the past," Evgenia Kara-Murza said.

After Navalny’s death, wife of another Putin critic fears for his safety

Russia on Sunday (Mar 24)&nbsp;launched an aerial assault on&nbsp;Ukraine's capital Kyiv and the western region of Lviv, AFP reported citing&nbsp;officials, prompting&nbsp;Poland, a NATO member to deploy its jets.&nbsp;

"Explosions in the capital. Air defence is working. Do not leave shelters," Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram. Lviv regional governor&nbsp;Maksym Kozytskyi said Stryi district, south of the city of Lviv, was also under attack.

The assault&nbsp;comes as Russia mourns the tragic terrorist attack on the Moscow concert hall and blames Ukraine for it.

Ukraine's&nbsp;air defence forces destroyed about a dozen of Russia-launched missiles, said&nbsp;Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, on&nbsp;Telegram.&nbsp;Preliminary information showed no casualties or major damage as a result of the attacks, he added.

It later reported that Russia had violated Poland's&nbsp;airspace with a cruise missile which "entered Polish space near the town of Oserdow (Lublin Voivodeship) and stayed there for 39 seconds."

The missile, according to Polish officials,&nbsp;penetrated the country's&nbsp;airspace by around 1,000-2,000 metres.&nbsp;

The statement came after Putin in a public address claimed that the attackers tried to flee to Ukraine. "They tried to hide and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the state border," Putin said. Russia’s security agency FSB also said that the gunmen had ‘contacts in Ukraine’.

The Crocus City Hall attack on Friday (Mar 22) left at least 133 people dead as doctors were struggling to save the lives of more than 100 injured. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. Moscow has so far detained 4 suspects involved in the mass shooting.

Meanwhile, ISIS on Saturday (Mar 23) released footage on its Telegram which it claimed is of the Crocus City Hall attack.

The 1.31-minute video shows a close-up view of the gunmen opening fire on people.

Neither Putin nor any top Russian officials have yet commented on IS’s claims of responsibility for the attack.

<h2>US says only IS responsible</h2>

US on Saturday backed Ukraine saying only ISIS was responsible for the attack and Kyiv had no role.

The US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson in a statement said, “ISIS bears sole responsibility for this attack. There was no Ukrainian involvement whatsoever.”
