A new video has surfaced which shows a Kansas newspaper publisher's 98-year-old mother confronting police officers who were searching her home as part of a raid and telling them to&nbsp;“Get out of my house!”

In the video which was published by the newspaper, Joan Meyer is seen shouting at the six officers who are present inside her home in Kansas which she shares with her Marion County Record Editor and Publisher Eric Meyer.&nbsp;

The woman, who is seen dressed in a long robe or gown and slippers, and standing with the aid of a walker, seems visibly upset.

Legal experts stated that the newspaper's police raid violated a federal privacy law or a state law which shields journalists from having to identify sources or hand over unpublished material to law enforcement.

Two state lawmakers, Democratic state Rep. Jason Probst and Kansas House Democratic Leader Vic Miller, said that they will be pursuing legislation dealing with search warrants next year. “I don’t want this to fade away until we’ve addressed it,” said Miller, while speaking at a Statehouse news conference.

Li Yanhe, who goes by the pen name Fucha, has published books which speak critically about Beijing.&nbsp;

The confirmation of Li's detention was made by Beijing days after speculations were made about his whereabouts.&nbsp;

The "arbitrary arrests" of Taiwanese residents in China have been criticised by Taiwan as a breach of human rights.&nbsp;

The arrest of the publisher was confirmed a day after China stated that it would prosecute a pro-Taiwanese independence party's founder for alleged secession.

The book publisher, Li, was born in China and had shifted to Taiwan in 2009. In Taiwan, he had established Gusa Press through which books, that were critical of the Chinese administration, were published.&nbsp;

According to Li's friends, the publisher had arrived in China in April to visit his relatives and participate in Qing Ming, which is the annual Chinese tomb-sweeping festival.

A week ago, reports suggesting that Li had gone missing surfaced. Zhu Fenglian, who worked at China's Taiwan Affairs Office, said that they will respect the rights of Li during the investigation.&nbsp;

Multiple activists, scholars and writers had called for his release. On Monday, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents Club had appealed to China to "respect the freedom of the press that it enshrines in its constitution, and to release all unjustly imprisoned media workers".

The case of Li has been widely compared with the five Hong Kong booksellers' disappearance in 2015 from a shop which is famous for selling works critical of China.

The booksellers eventually were taken into custody by mainland Chinese authorities while an investigation was carried out into their publishing business.

The authorities in China on Tuesday said that Taiwanese National Party founder Yang Chih-yuan has been completely investigated and placed under formal arrest.

Chih-yuan was arrested in Wenzhou, the eastern Chinese city, in August on suspicion of "separatism".

During his detention, the leader was linked to a crackdown carried out by the Chinese authorities on &nbsp;"separatists" amid tensions over the trip of the then US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

Chinese state media reports had stated that he had been "poisoned by thoughts of Taiwan independence secessionism for a long time" and was "actively scheming" to work towards achieving Taiwan's formal statehood.

The publisher was sued by the Duke of Sussex in February over the publication of an article in the Mail on Sunday newspaper. In the article, it was alleged that the prince, with an intention to reinstate his police protection, had hidden the details of his legal battle with the interior ministry of Britain.

Prince Harry, along with his wife Meghan, had given up his royal duties two years ago. The prince claimed that the Mail had published an "unremittingly negative" article regarding his legal case against the ministry.

In July, the High Court had ruled out that it was defamatory. However, Associated Newspapers, argued that the article carried "an expression of opinion" of public statements made by Harry on his legal battle over the issue of police protection.

On Tuesday, the case was presented again in the court for a preliminary hearing, speaking on which the prince's lawyer Jane Phillips said that the case will be placed on hold till mid-January as agreed by the parties and an attempt will be made to reach a settlement "if that is indeed possible".

Judge Barbara Fontaine gave the ruling that the lawyers of Harry should provide necessary "clarification" about the offer the prince claims to have made, which the judge further added would “assist the parties ... in the attempts about (a) settlement, which I hope are successful”.

The court hearing was held on Tuesday just days before the much-talked-about Netflix documentary based on Harry and Meghan is set to be released.

Several top Islamist political party leaders were hanged over the violence under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.&nbsp;

Prosecutor Golam Sarwar Zakir said, the judge at Dhaka's Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal convicted all of the eight accused men.&nbsp;

"He (the judge) said their goal was to muzzle people's voices by murdering bloggers, writers and publishers. They wanted to disrupt public security by creating panic among the people," Zakir said.&nbsp;

Two of the men are still on the loose and were sentenced in absentia, including mastermind Syed Ziaul Haque, a sacked army officer, Zakir added.&nbsp;

Haque has been charged with the killings of several secular activists.&nbsp;

A defence lawyer for the eight men said they would appeal against the sentences.&nbsp;

A prominent Bangladeshi writer and publisher was dragged out of a shop and shot dead by unidentified attackers in central Bangladesh, ending a lull in the killings of secular bloggers and activists in the Muslim-majority country.

Shahzahan Bachchu, 60, an outspoken proponent of secular principles and owner of a publishing house 'Bishaka Prokashoni' that specialised in publishing poetry, was gunned down in his ancestral village Kakaldi in Munshiganj district last evening by five assailants.

Bachchu had gone to meet friends at a pharmacy shop near his home before Iftar, when the five attackers on two motorcycles came into the area. They blasted a crude bomb outside the pharmacy, creating panic, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

They then dragged Shahzahan out of the shop and shot him, a senior superintendent of police was quoted as saying by the daily.

Although no group has claimed responsibility, police officials from the counter-terrorism department are investigating the murder as a possible targeted attack by Islamist extremists.&nbsp;

Bachchu had previously received threats from extremist groups due to his outspoken support for secularism

Bachchu was a former district general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and was known as a free-thinking writer. His publishing house Bishaka is based in Dhaka's Banglabazar area.

Secular writer Shahzahan Bachchu dragged out of shop, shot dead in Bangladesh  

Former Playboy model Karen McDougal reached an agreement on Wednesday with tabloid publisher American Media Inc that will allow her to speak freely about an affair she alleges she had with President Donald Trump, the company said in a statement.

McDougal filed suit in California last month seeking to be released from a deal reached in 2016 with AMI, publisher of the National Enquirer, that gave the company exclusive rights to her story in exchange for $150,000.

"AMI is pleased that we reached an amicable resolution with Ms. McDougal today that provides both sides what they wanted as a result," the company said in a statement.

Representatives for McDougal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Under the deal, AMI said it would have the right to receive up to $75,000 of any future profits from the sale of her story about the alleged 10-month affair, which she says started in 2006.

McDougal will also appear on the September 2018 cover of Men's Journal magazine, which will include a feature-length article about her, the company said.

In an interview with CNN that aired last month, McDougal said she was in love with Trump and the affair started not long after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son, Barron.

The White House has said that Trump denies having an affair with McDougal.

AMI has said McDougal was permitted to speak about her relationship with Trump in response to "legitimate press inquiries."

McDougal had argued in her lawsuit that the agreement was an illegal corporate donation from AMI to the Trump campaign that violated federal election law.

American Media head David Pecker has described Trump as a "personal friend."

Trump has been engaged in a legal battle with adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, who says she had a one-night stand with Trump in 2006.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has sued Trump and his lawyer Michael Cohen to be released from a 2016 agreement not to publicly discuss the alleged sexual encounter in exchange for $130,000.

The White House has denied that Trump had sex with Daniels.

The deal had been with AMI, publisher of the National Enquirer, and gave the company exclusive rights to McDougal's story in exchange for $150,000

Former Playboy model Karen McDougal reached an agreement on Wednesday with tabloid publisher American Media Inc that will allow her to speak freely about an affair she alleges she had with President Donald Trump, the company said in a statement. McDougal filed suit in California last month seeking to be released from a deal reached in 2016 with AMI, publisher of the National Enquirer, that gave the company exclusive rights to her story in exchange for $150,000. "AMI is pleased that we reached an amicable resolution with Ms. McDougal today that provides both sides what they wanted as a result," the company said in a statement. Representatives for McDougal did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Under the deal, AMI said it would have the right to receive up to $75,000 of any future profits from the sale of her story about the alleged 10-month affair, which she says started in 2006. McDougal will also appear on the September 2018 cover of Men's Journal magazine, which will include a feature-length article about her, the company said. In an interview with CNN that aired last month, McDougal said she was in love with Trump and the affair started not long after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son, Barron. The White House has said that Trump denies having an affair with McDougal. AMI has said McDougal was permitted to speak about her relationship with Trump in response to "legitimate press inquiries." McDougal had argued in her lawsuit that the agreement was an illegal corporate donation from AMI to the Trump campaign that violated federal election law. American Media head David Pecker has described Trump as a "personal friend." Trump has been engaged in a legal battle with adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, who says she had a one-night stand with Trump in 2006. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has sued Trump and his lawyer Michael Cohen to be released from a 2016 agreement not to publicly discuss the alleged sexual encounter in exchange for $130,000. The White House has denied that Trump had sex with Daniels.
