<p>A ceremony, which was earlier scheduled to be held on May 15 for the newly-appointed envoys, had to be deferred. The deferment of the ceremony had come against the backdrop of strong criticism of Turkiye in India for its backing of Pakistan during the recent conflict between Indian and Pakistani militaries following Operation Sindoor.</p><p>Indian defence forces on May 7 launched the operation to destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.</p><p>Both India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to halt all military actions.</p><p>There has also been a sharp downturn in India-Bangladesh relations after deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled Dhaka and took shelter in India in August last year in the face of a massive anti-government protest.</p><p>The relations nosedived dramatically after the interim government in Bangladesh headed by Muhammad Yunus failed to contain attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in that country.</p>

Kolkata horror: President Murmu highlights society’s ‘collective amnesia’ in rare condemnation

<p>Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Bhartruhari Mahtab was sworn in as Lok Sabha pro tem Speaker on Monday (Jun 24). President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath despite strong objections by the opposition. He will preside over the proceedings of the lower house of the Parliament until a new speaker is elected on June 26. His appointment drew sharp criticism from the Congress party, which claimed the candidacy of its member Kodikunnil Suresh, who has served eight terms in the Lok Sabha, was completely overlooked.</p>

<p>Senior Congress leaders accused the BJP government of violating parliamentary norms and politicising the appointment. Jairam Ramesh said the MP who has served the maximum terms as a member is appointed as the pro tem Speaker.</p>

<p>At least 15 people have been killed and 40 others injured following a bus accident in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (MP). Reports suggest that the passenger bus was headed for Uttar Pradesh when it collided with a stationary truck between 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm (local time) on Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to officials, the bus was headed to UP’s Gorakhpur from Hyderabad in the&nbsp;state of Telangana when it collided with a stationary trailer truck on the national highway (NH) 30. They also indicated that at least 12 people were killed on the spot and two others succumbed while they were being taken to the hospital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The district’s superintendent of police (SP) said, “Of the 40 injured 25 have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa (MP) where one person succumbed to his injuries. The death toll has increased to 15.” Reportedly a majority of the passengers of the bus were labourers who were on their way home to celebrate the festival of Diwali.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about the accident, Rewa's collector Manoj Pushp&nbsp;said, “It seems that the truck had an accident and when the driver applied brakes, the bus behind it rammed into it. Rescue operations were carried out and the injured have been sent to hospital.”</p>

According to officials, the bus was headed to UP’s Gorakhpur from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana when it collided with a stationary trailer truck on the national highway (NH) 30. They also indicated that at least 12 people were killed on the spot and two others succumbed while they were being taken to the hospital. The district’s superintendent of police (SP) said, “Of the 40 injured 25 have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa (MP) where one person succumbed to his injuries. The death toll has increased to 15.” Reportedly a majority of the passengers of the bus were labourers who were on their way home to celebrate the festival of Diwali. Speaking about the accident, Rewa's collector Manoj Pushp said, “It seems that the truck had an accident and when the driver applied brakes, the bus behind it rammed into it. Srivastav died after being in the ICU of Delhi's AIIMS for 41 days. <p>Raju Srivastav, 58, was in the entertainment industry since the 1980s and shot to fame after participating in the first season of the reality stand-up comedy show 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge'&nbsp;in 2005. He is survived by his wife and two children.<br />

Apart from President Murmu and Delhi's CM Arvind Kejriwal, other political leaders such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Akhilesh Yadav among others have also paid condolences over the demise of Raju Srivastav.&nbsp;<br />
