<h2>Why is it happening?</h2>

Although experts have clarified there is no link between weight loss drugs and increased fertility, they have identified two reasons for it.

Firstly, weight loss might be correcting hormonal imbalances caused by obesity and metabolic disorders and thus boosting fertility. So, increased fertility in this case should be attributed to weight loss and not weight loss drugs.

Secondly, certain weight loss drugs might reduce the efficacy of birth control pills, thus increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Experts have warned that weight loss drugs must not be consumed to boost fertility as they may have serious side effects.

“People need to be careful because there could be dangerous consequences if taken while pregnant given the drugs can linger in your system,” Dr. Allison Rodgers, an OB-GYN and reproductive endocrinologist at Fertility Centers of Illinois, was quoted as saying by USA Today.

"If the timing is suitable, the baby is mature, and the mother is well, we do induce labour or perform C-sections to honour requests. But sometimes the demands are unreasonable and we have to turn them down. For instance, I once had a 10-minute window from a patient, from 11.30 am to 11.40 am, as their priest deemed that time auspicious for the baby to be born," said&nbsp;Dr Jha.

Many patients wish for their baby to be born on the same day as their mother's or father's birthday, anniversaries, but entertaining such requests depends on the health of the mother and baby and the stage of pregnancy," she continued.

The hospital often receives a flood of delivery requests on occasions like New Year's Day, the first day of Navratri, Krishna Janmashtami, etc., Dr Jha said.&nbsp;

Dr Dahiya states that, in most cases of vaginal delivery, the likelihood of respiratory illnesses is considerably lower compared to C-section deliveries.

Importantly, Dr Dahiya says that a C-section is a complex procedure in itself. If a mother undergoes a C-section in her first pregnancy, it is highly likely that subsequent pregnancies will also result in C-sections. When the body undergoes multiple C-sections, the chances of surgical complications later in life increase significantly.

Dr&nbsp;Dahiya advocates against the idea of planned C-sections and suggests focusing on educating patients to avoid such requests unless absolutely necessary for medical reasons.&nbsp;

The study, published by the American Psychological Association, has revealed that children whose mothers experience increased levels of stress during pregnancy exhibit aggressive behaviour and lack mental well-being during their childhood and teen years.

“Our research suggests that psychological distress during the pregnancy period has a small but persistent effect on children’s risk for aggressive, disinhibited and impulsive behaviours,” said study author Irene Tung, PhD, of California State University, Dominguez Hills.&nbsp;

Consumption of alcohol, even in low to moderate amounts during pregnancy, can change the baby`s brain structure and delay brain development, a new MRI-based study has warned. 
 
Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can expose the fetus to a group of conditions called fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. 
 
Babies born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders could develop learning disabilities, behavioural problems or speech and language delays. 
 
"Fetal MRI is a highly specialised and safe examination method that allows us to make accurate statements about brain maturation prenatally," said study senior author Gregor Kasprian, associate professor of radiology at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. 
 
For the study, researchers analysed MRI exams of 24 fetuses with prenatal alcohol exposure. The fetuses were between 22 and 36 weeks of gestation at the time of MRI. 
 
Alcohol exposure was determined via anonymous surveys of the mothers. 
 
In fetuses with alcohol exposure, the fetal total maturation score (fTMS) was significantly lower than in the age-matched controls, and the right superior temporal sulcus (STS) was shallower. 
 
The STS is involved in social cognition, audiovisual integration and language perception. 
 
"We found the greatest changes in the temporal brain region and STS. We know that this region, and specifically the formation of the STS, has a great influence on language development during childhood," said Dr Kasprian. 
 
Seventeen of 24 mothers drank alcohol relatively infrequently, with average alcohol consumption of less than one alcoholic drink per week. 
 
"Nevertheless, we were able to detect significant changes in these fetuses based on prenatal MRI," Dr Kienast added. 
 
According to the researchers, delayed fetal brain development could be specifically related to a delayed stage of myelination and less distinct gyrification in the frontal and occipital lobes.

The medical reports revealed that the first-year teacher has preeclampsia, a pregnancy condition which causes severe complications and is characterised by high blood pressure and signs of other organs getting damaged.&nbsp;

Stover's boyfriend said that doctors came into action and then the baby was delivered that night. The doctors performed C-section to save the child and the baby. Stover claimed the situation to be "very scary" for the parents.&nbsp;

This insurance should cover sufficient pay for pregnancy-related issues or any complications faced by the surrogate. 
 
The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021 came into force this year on January 25th. The Union Health Ministry in addition to this said that no surrogacy procedure should be attempted more than three times on the surrogate mother in a single cycle, reported by PTI.

However, the surrogate mother may be allowed for an abortion during the surrogacy process as per the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act of 1971.

In this regard, the intended couple or woman must provide an affidavit as a guarantee of payment for all medical costs, health problems, surrogate mother’s personal loss, any sort of damage or illness as well as any other expenses that must be paid for the surrogate mother during the surrogacy procedure.&nbsp;

India: Couples choosing surrogacy should buy 36 months health insurance for surrogate mother

One in seven pregnancies worldwide ends in&nbsp;miscarriage, and 11 per cent of women endure a failed pregnancy at least once in their lifetime, experts said Tuesday.

Some 23 million miscarriages occur every year, according to data pieced together from around the globe by an international team of 31 researchers.

But the actual tally is sure to be "substantially higher" due to underreporting, they said in a trio of studies published in The Lancet.

Two per cent of women -- one in 50 -- have experienced two miscarriages, while less than&nbsp;one per cent have been through three or more.

Levels of care for women suffering&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;is highly uneven across countries, and even within many wealthy nations, the data showed.

"A new system is needed to ensure miscarriages are better recognised and women are given the physical and mental health care they need," the researchers said in a statement.

Misconceptions about&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;are widespread.

Many women believe they occur only rarely, for example, or that they can be caused by lifting heavy objects or previous contraceptive use.

They may also think that there's no effective treatments to prevent a&nbsp;miscarriage, especially in women at high risk.

Such misconceptions can be damaging, leaving women and their partners feeling at fault and discouraging them from seeking treatment and support, the authors note.&nbsp;

Miscarriage&nbsp;can also lead to isolation, since many women might not tell their family, close friends, or even their partner about the loss of a pregnancy.

"Silence around&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;remains not only for women who experience it, but also among health care providers, policymakers and research funders," said co-lead author Siobhan Quenby, a professor at the University of Warwick and director of Tommy's National Centre for&nbsp;Miscarriage&nbsp;Research.&nbsp;

A&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;is widely defined as the loss of a pregnancy before 20 to 24 weeks of gestation, with the exact time period varying from country to country.

Unrecognised trauma

A review of published academic literature up to mid-May 2020 identified many causes for miscarriages, including a more advanced maternal age, previous miscarriages, and a father older than 40.&nbsp;

Other risk factors correlating with pregnancies that end spontaneously are being extremely under- or over-weight, smoking, alcohol consumption, persistent stress, working night shifts, and constant exposure to air pollution or pesticides.

Health consequences can be severe, especially for women who experience a second or multiple miscarriages.

"Recurrent&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;is a devastating experience for most women, but the mental health impact is rarely acknowledged or addressed in medical care," said co-lead author Arri Coomarasamy, from the University of Birmingham.&nbsp;

"Women can experience trauma and bereavement, which may have no obvious sign and can go unrecognised."

There is also a link with anxiety, depression and -- for about 20 per cent of women -- post-traumatic stress disorder nine months after a&nbsp;miscarriage.&nbsp;

The authors of the three studies noted that most data comes from wealthier nations, but that the "silence around&nbsp;miscarriage" is found everywhere.

They recommended that national health authorities strengthen&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;care services, improve research in prevention, and identify women at high risk.

"For too long&nbsp;miscarriage&nbsp;has been minimised and often dismissed," The Lancet said in an companion editorial.

"The lack of medical progress should be shocking -- instead, there is pervasive acceptance."
