According to the agency, the child was exposed to infected poultry at home and in his surroundings. No one among his family members and those who came in contact with the boy reported symptoms of respiratory illness.

The WHO stated that they did not have any information regarding the antiviral treatment administered to the child as well as about his vaccination status.&nbsp;

The inventor has figured out how to make biodiesel from slaughtered chicken that provides a mileage of over 38 kilometre a litre at nearly 40 per cent of the current price of diesel. This invention also helps decrease pollution levels by half.

Abraham came up with this invention during the course of his doctoral research at the Namakkal Veterinary College under the Tamil Nadu Veterinary &amp; Animal Sciences University. He had applied for this patent seven years ago.

The delay in patent, as per Abraham, happened because he needed permission from the National Biodiversity Authority as the important raw material was biological material which is locally sourced.

During his research days, he was being mentored by late Prof Ramesh Saravanakumar who passed away waiting for the patent to arrive.

After his research was completed and he was awaiting the results of the patent, Abraham started working at Pookode Veterinary College and later set up a pilot plant at the college campus with funding from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research worth INR 1,800,000.

South Korea has confirmed this year's first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) among domestic poultry.

The agriculture ministry on Saturday said a virus detected from ducks at a farm in Jeongeup, a North Jeolla Province city about 290 kilometers south of Seoul, in a pre-shipment test has been confirmed as the highly pathogenic bird flu of the H5N8 strain.

This test was carried out on Thursday.

The ministry added that an urgent response team was sent to the farm that houses about 19,000 ducks, and all of the birds were culled. There are six other poultry farms within a radius of three kilometers (1.9 miles) from the farm.

H5N8 is the same subtype of AI detected from among wild birds here this year. It is the first time in about two years and eight months that the highly pathogenic bird flu has broken out at a local poultry farm.

The authorities have issued an order to stop any activities at poultry and livestock facilities, as well as the movement of poultry products across the country for 48 hours, while for poultry farms in Jeongeup, the blockage will last seven days, and for farms within a radius of 10 kilometers from the site of the outbreak 30 days.&nbsp;

The national alert level over the spread of bird flu has been raised to a "serious hazard."

Clarifications issued by the authorities appear to have allayed some fears, with sales starting to gradually improve, said Prasanna Pedgaonkar, general manager of poultry-focused Venky’s, which has seen its shares slide more than 20% in the last month.

“Sales are not fully recovered. It will take time to go back to normal level,” he said, adding that small and medium farmers are struggling to absorb losses.
