PoK protests escalate: Clashes, 2 deaths, and massive marches across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir

At least three people were killed and six others injured when Pakistan's occupying security forces opened fire on protesters during clashes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Muzaffarabad across the Indian Line of Control.&nbsp;

According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the protestors were demonstrating against the high prices of wheat flour and inflated electricity bills when they were killed in the firing by paramilitary rangers.&nbsp;

Pakistan's Dawn newspaper reported that the paramilitary Rangers, which were called in to maintain law and order, came under attack while moving out of the region.&nbsp;

Instead of exiting via Barakot, the area bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the 19-vehicle convoy, including five trucks, chose to exit the region from Kohala, it said.

After entering the city through the Western Bypass, the occupying forces were faced with rocks and stones from the protesters following which the Pakistani forces used teargas and bullets.&nbsp;

The report said that the force used by Pakistani authorities was so intense that the entire neighbourhood reeled from it.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on May 13 approved a Pakistani Rs 23 billion subsidy for immediate release to the region after the negotiations between the protesters and the regional government ended in a deadlock.

But Islamabad's decision to roll out the subsidy failed to pacify the region, the report added.

The demonstrations against inflation have snowballed into a movement of resistance against Pakistani occupation of the legally Indian territories with the 'Azadi' (freedom) chorus taking over Muzaffarabad and Kotli regions of the PoK.

Meanwhile, inside Kashmir across the Line of Control, a large number of voters on May 13 came out to exercise their right to vote for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. The record voter turnout in Srinagar at over 38 per cent was the highest since 1996.&nbsp;
