Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion,&nbsp;was robbed in London on a stopover on his way to the United States from the Paris Olympics, where he took the bronze medal. While Matsuyama only lost his wallet, his caddie, Shota Hiyato, and coach, Mikhito Kuromiya, lost their passports and visas and returned to Japan in hopes of getting new paperwork and returning to Matsuyama before the playoffs end in two weeks at East Lake in Atlanta.

"It was an unfortunate situation," Matsuyama said. "Luckily I only lost my wallet... we're trying hard now to get their visas back in line. "We're pushing hard, looking toward East Lake. Shota will make it, I think, but my coach probably won't."

The robbery has not thrown off Matsuyama, who says, "I've forgotten it completely" and notes he talks by phone to his coach every night. "We didn't even know it happened," he said. The PGA Tour of America started its search for a new CEO with internal and external candidates part of process. Chief championships officer Kerry Haigh is acting as interim CEO but isn't in the candidate pool for the full-time position.

Before serving as CEO, Waugh was an independent director on the PGA of America Board of Directors for three years.

"I recently informed the board that I would not be renewing my contract that is set to expire on June 30, but am honored to continue to serve the Association as a Senior Advisor," Waugh said in a statement.

Korda has won six LPGA titles this season, including her second career major crown at April's Chevron Championship in Texas, and last month's Americas Open for a sixth win in seven starts.

"That's just golf," Korda said. "It's just such a roller coaster. Life is as well but I feel like out here you get a couple bad breaks and you're not playing the weekend and you can get really down on yourself. Lexi Thompson fires 68 to grab lead at Women's PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica have called off their divorce and are looking forward to "a new beginning", the golfer told The Guardian newspaper on Tuesday.

McIlroy filed divorce papers to end the seven-year marriage last month, on the eve of the PGA Championship.

But ahead of this week's US Open, the third major of the season, the Northern Irishman said there had been a change of heart.

"There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool's game," the world number three told the newspaper.

"Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning," he added.

Erica Stoll was working for the PGA of America when she met McIlroy in 2012 at the Ryder Cup.

They began dating in 2015, becoming engaged in December that year while on holiday in Paris and marrying in April 2017 at an Irish castle.

Their daughter, Poppy, was born in 2020.

Four-time major winner McIlroy previously dated Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

Ace golfer Scottie Scheffler has said that he holds 'no ill will' toward office Bryan Gillis who had arrested him at the PAG Championship earlier this month. Scheffler's comments came after a Kentucky, USA prosecutor dropped all four criminal charges against him on Wednesday (May 29).

"I hold no ill will toward Officer [Bryan] Gillis. I wish to put this incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same," Scheffler wrote on&nbsp;Instagram.

"Police officers have a difficult job and I hold them in high regard. This was a severe miscommunication in a chaotic situation," he added.

Scheffler was facing four criminal charges including felony for a second degree assault on a police officer while trying to enter the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. The incident happened in the wee hours on May 17 - the day of his second round of&nbsp;PGA Championship.&nbsp;

Responding to the charges, the Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell &nbsp;prosecutor said: "Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler."

The decision to drop charges may have been partly due to the information released by police in the matter. The Louisville Metropolitan Police department had held a press conference to inform that police officer, Bryan Gillis, who was involved in the incident, was also suspended.

Gillis was not wearing the body-cam at the time of Scheffler's arrest. The publicly-released footage of the incident also didn't show Scheffler dragging the police officer as mentioned in the initial report.

Police footage, including one taken by a street pole camera that shows Scheffler's vehicle slowly turn into Valhalla before an officer runs towards it and strikes it as it comes to a stop.

Xander Schauffele outdueled Bryson DeChambeau down the back nine on Sunday to win the PGA Championship, capturing his first major triumph with the lowest score in major history.

Third-ranked Schauffele sank a tension-packed six-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole at Valhalla for a one-stroke victory over DeChambeau to snap a two-year victory drought.

"I was actually kind of emotional after the putt lipped in," said Schauffele. "It has been a while since I've won.

"I kept saying it all week. I just need to stay in my lane. And man, was it hard to stay in my lane today. But I tried all day to just keep focus on what I'm trying to do."

Schauffele, who had 12 prior top-10 major finishes without a victory, had not won an event since the 2022 Scottish Open, having had 19 top-10 PGA Tour finishes during his drought.

But he matched the lowest round in major history with a nine-under 62 on Thursday and was equal to the challenge on Sunday.

The reigning Olympic champion fired a six-under par 65 and finished 72 holes on 21-under 263 to edge fellow American DeChambeau, the 2020 US Open champion.

Schauffele broke the old 72-hole record low under-par winning score of 20-under, done four times, most recently by Australian Cameron Smith at the 2022 British Open.

Victory was worth $3.33 million to Schauffele from an $18.5 million purse while DeChambeau took home $1.998 million.

"Proud of Xander for finally getting the job done," DeChambeau said. He's an amazing golfer and well deserved major champion now.

"On my side of the coin, disappointing. I played well. Shot 20-under par in a major championship. Proud of myself for the way I handled adversity. Definitely disappointing, but one that gives me a lot of momentum for the rest of the majors."

DeChambeau closed with a 64 while Norway's Victor Hovland, last year's PGA runner-up, was third on 266 after shooting a 66.

Belgium's Thomas Detry fired a 66 to share fourth on 269 with Collin Morikawa, the 54-hole co-leader who made 16 pars in shooting 71. England's Justin Rose and Ireland's Shane Lowry shared sixth on 270.

DeChambeau rolled in a birdie putt from just beyond 10 feet at the par-5 18th hole, the ball barely dropping in, to match Schauffele for the lead at 20-under.

Seconds later, Hovland missed his 10-foot birdie putt to doom his chances and ended up making a bogey.

"I just told myself this is my opportunity and just capture it," Schauffele said.

He put past defeats in perspective with a text from his father -- a steady drip breaks the rock.

Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro police after he drove onto curbing trying to get around a prior accident at the Valhalla entrance, one that resulted in the fatality of a pedestrian named as John Mills.

"My sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Mills," Scheffler said. "I can't imagine what they're going through."

A police report on the incident obtained by ESPN said arresting officer Bryan Gillis says Scheffler disobeyed orders to stop his car and accelerated, dragging the officer to the ground.

Gillis was hospitalized with pain, bruising and swelling in his left wrist and knee. An arraignment is set for Tuesday.

"I never intended to disregard any of the instructions," Scheffler said in a statement before his round.

Scheffler, who won his second Masters title last month, arrived at Valhalla just under an hour before his start time in the second round, which began after an 80-minute delay due to the accident.

"We were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus," the PGA of America said in a statement. "This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship."

The PGA of America later identified Mills and said of Scheffler, "We're fully cooperating as local authorities review what took place."

"It probably took a few holes to feel normal."

Fans cheered as Scheffler walked onto the course and gave him a huge ovation just before his first shot landed in the right rough on his way to an opening birdie.

"Fans were tremendous today," Scheffler said.

Scheffler's mugshot was posted by the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections after he was booked. Some fans had it on T-shirts at the course.

A statement from Louisville Metro Police Department read: "About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus.

“Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was travelling eastbound in the compulsory centre lane dedicated for buses.

"As a result, the pedestrian received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.”

Schauffele, who held a final round two-stroke lead at Quail Hollow on Sunday before losing by five shots to McIlroy, was a man on a mission in Louisville, matching the men's major championship low score for a second time.

Despite an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo and a proven ability to go low, the 30-year-old American has yet to win a major and is without a win since the 2022 Scottish Open.

While there is a lot of golf to be played, the world number three signaled he plans to end both droughts with a brilliant error-free opening round that matched his first round effort at last year's U.S. Open.

Only two other men have returned 62s at a major, Rickie Fowler, also in the first round at the 2023 U.S. Open, and Branden Grace, in the third round at the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

"I'll take a 62 in any major any day," said Schauffele. "Not winning makes you want to win more, as weird as that is. "The top feels far away, and I feel like I have a lot of work to do."

Coming off titles at the Zurich Open and Wells Fargo, McIlroy carried that momentum onto the first tee. He rolled in a six-footer for a birdie on his opening hole, the par five 10th, then picked up a second at the 13th to briefly join a crowd at the top of the leaderboard.

But the Northern Irishman, who announced on Monday that he had filed for divorce, stalled after the early burst. He took a bogey at the 17th before hitting his stride again after the turn by carding four birdies, including three straight from the fifth.

"Not a pretty 66," summed up McIlroy, who won the last of his four majors in 2014 on the same Valhalla layout. "I sort of felt like it was pretty scrappy for the most part. "I thought I got a lot out of my game today. "Not really happy with how I played but at least happy with the score."

After taking three weeks off to be with his wife, who was about to give birth, there were worries Scheffler would need time to shake off some competitive rust before returning to his dominating ways. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy return next week to Valhalla for the 106th PGA Championship, back on a course where each captured a dramatic major victory earlier in their careers.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, won a three-hole playoff over Bob May to take the 2000 PGA Championship, becoming the first golfer since Ben Hogan in 1953 to win three majors in the same year.

He went on to claim the 2001 Masters and complete the Tiger Slam feat of four consecutive major wins.

World number two McIlroy won the most recent of his four major titles in the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla, racing the darkness down the last hole to edge Phil Mickelson by a stroke.

"I think the guys up ahead were pretty unhappy with how it all unfolded," McIlroy recalled. "I got the result that I was looking for in the end and that's all that matters."

McIlroy stubbornly finished as nightfall descended after Mickelson, a group ahead, birdied to pull within one. McIlroy found a greenside bunker and saved par for the victory.

"I'm not a huge fan of conflict, but when push comes to shove, I will," McIlroy recalled. "That was one of those times when I needed to sort of assert my will on a situation.

"I think if I wasn't as pushy as I was, I would have had to sleep on that lead and on that tee shot overnight. I just didn't want to do that."

McIlroy has not won a major title in the decade since, but has posted 20 top-10 major finishes, including a runner-up showing at each of the other three majors.

The 35-year-old from Northern Ireland has stretched his PGA Tour win total from nine to 25 and his DP World Tour total from nine to 17.

Woods, 48, has won 10 majors since but with a gap from the 2008 US Open, won on a broken leg in a playoff over Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines, to a one-stroke triumph at the 2019 Masters.

Woods has struggled to simply walk 72 holes after suffering severe leg injuries in a 2021 car crash but finished 60th at last month's Masters and said he knew how he would work toward Valhalla.

"Well, just keep lifting, keep the motor going, keep the body moving, keep getting stronger, keep progressing," Woods said. "Hopefully the practice sessions will keep getting longer.

"I'm going to do my homework going forward... that's kind of the game plan."

In 2000, May held a one-stroke lead down the final holes but missed a birdie putt from inside four feet at the 15th hole while Woods sank a 10-footer for par and birdied 17 to set up a playoff. Woods birdied the first extra hole and both men parred the last two holes as Woods grabbed his fifth major victory.

"I've talked to him plenty about Valhalla," said Woods's pal Justin Thomas. "As soon as I bring it up, he always jokes that I was probably still in diapers it was so long ago.

"I always remind him he was one lip-out away from losing to Bob May in the PGA and not having the Tiger Slam."

Thomas said Woods doesn't relate the victory as some epic story.

"When he was going about it, it didn't seem very difficult, but he was just better than everybody else and it seemed pretty easy at the time," Thomas said.

Four-time winner Tiger Woods set for return to golf at PGA Championship

LIV Golf's bid to be&nbsp;recognised by the sport's global rankings body has been rejected, the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) Organisation confirmed on Tuesday (Oct 11).&nbsp;OWGR said it had turned down LIV's request due to the circuit's 54-hole no-cut format and limited access for players to join the venture. OWGR president Peter Dawson informed LIV chief executive Greg Norman of the decision in an open letter sent on Tuesday.

"The Board Committee met recently to again review your OWGR submission in light of your latest responses to the Committee's questions and concerns," Dawson wrote in the letter.&nbsp;"At the meeting, the Board Committee unanimously determined that at this time the LIV Tour will not be recognised as an Eligible Golf Tour in the OWGR system."

Dawson said there was no "fair and equitable" way of including LIV Golf's players in OWGR's rankings. The issue of whether LIV players should be granted rankings points has been a thorny subject of debate since the lavishly funded Saudi Arabia-backed circuit plunged golf into an acrimonious civil war last year.

Ranking points were seen as a crucial step in LIV's development, giving its players the chance to secure qualification for major championships. Dawson told US media outlets that OWGR's decision was not aimed at punishing players who had joined LIV. "This is entirely technical. OWGR has no hostility toward LIV whatsoever," Dawson was quoted as saying.

"The important point is this is not about the players. LIV players are self-evidently good enough to be ranked; there is no doubt about that.&nbsp; "This is about, should a tour whose formats are so different and whose qualification criteria are so different, can they be ranked equitably with other tours who conform to the OWGR norm and have more competition to them than perhaps the closed shop that is LIV?" In a statement issued later Tuesday, LIV Golf slammed the OWGR ruling.

"OWGR's sole objective is to rank the best players across the globe. Today's communication makes clear that it can no longer deliver on that objective," the circuit said.&nbsp; "A ranking which fails to fairly represent all participants, irrespective of where in the world they play golf, robs fans, players and all of golf's stakeholders of the objective basis underpinning any accurate recognition of the world's best player performances.&nbsp;"It also robs some traditional tournaments of the best fields possible. Professional golf is now without a true or global scoring and ranking system." &nbsp;

The PGA Tour stunned world golf in June after announcing a shock agreement with the LIV's Saudi paymasters aimed at ending the sport's two-year civil war. However firm details of how the "new collectively owned, for-profit entity" that will see the PGA Tour, Europe's DP World Tour and LIV Golf merge have yet to be divulged.

"This is about, should a tour whose formats are so different and whose qualification criteria are so different, can they be ranked equitably with other tours who conform to the OWGR norm and have more competition to them than perhaps the closed shop that is LIV?" In a statement issued later Tuesday, LIV Golf slammed the OWGR ruling. "OWGR's sole objective is to rank the best players across the globe. Today's communication makes clear that it can no longer deliver on that objective," the circuit said. "A ranking which fails to fairly represent all participants, irrespective of where in the world they play golf, robs fans, players and all of golf's stakeholders of the objective basis underpinning any accurate recognition of the world's best player performances. "It also robs some traditional tournaments of the best fields possible. Professional golf is now without a true or global scoring and ranking system." The PGA Tour stunned world golf in June after announcing a shock agreement with the LIV's Saudi paymasters aimed at ending the sport's two-year civil war. However firm details of how the "new collectively owned, for-profit entity" that will see the PGA Tour, Europe's DP World Tour and LIV Golf merge have yet to be divulged.
