<p class="MsoNormal">"To support Canada’s post-pandemic recovery and chart a more prosperous future, the Government of Canada set a target of welcoming 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, as part of the 2021–2023 Immigration Levels Plan," the release stated. "The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced that Canada has reached its target and welcomed more than 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021. Surpassing the previous record from 1913, this is the most newcomers in a year in Canadian history."<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The goal was set by the authorities a little before the coronavirus pandemic began. The original goal was to welcome nearly 341,000 new residents in the year 2020 but Canada was only able to achieve 184,000 due to the onset of the pandemic-cause lockdown.</p>

"We’re not top of many relocation lists, but we know once people do come, they tend to stay," said&nbsp;Johanna Huurre, of Helsinki Business Hub which devised the campaign. "There’s huge competition globally for talent, so we had to think creatively."</p>

<p>Almost 30 per cent of the applications have come from the US and Canada where the 90-day trial period scheme has attracted a lot of eyes. The UK, too, has shown interest in the scheme with near applicants belonging from Britain.</p>

<p>With the pandemic year bringing change in everyone's professional life, majority applications were of families in which the adults wanted to work remotely&nbsp;for their current employers. Nearly 60 applications were also from investors who are looking to invest in the local resources and build on it.</p>

<p>One of the most popular reasons for shifting has been to launch startups. Entrepreneurs have shown a specific interest in this programme as it gives them a trial period of figuring out whether or not their business idea can bloom in the upcoming country. Finland has already successfully helped give a launchpad to bigger companies and services such as Nokia,&nbsp;SMS, 5G and Linux, with recent campus additions of&nbsp;Google, Bayer and GE Healthcare.</p>

<p>Locals are protesting after the state government appointed Joint High Power Committee (JHPC) recommended granting PRC to six communities, who have been living in Namsai and Changlang districts of the state for decades.</p>

<p>The decision to grant PRC to them will allow them to benefit from various welfare and other schemes. JHPC recommended PRC to six communities after having a detailed discussion with all stakeholders, but nearly 18 student and civil society organisations are protesting against the move. They are against giving PRC to non-Arunachalees.</p>

<p>However, Chief Minister Khandu has clarified that the government did not intend to bring any Bill to push PRC forward and has even announced not to discuss the issue in the Assembly. He has, however, stated that he would like to have wider consultations with all stakeholders on the issue of PRC in near future.</p>

<p>Home Minister Rajnath Singh has appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace. He called up Chief Minister Khandu and took stock of the prevailing situation in the state.</p>
