A young person is accused of urinating on a senior citizen couple, who were travelling in an AC coach of Sampark Kranti Express in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

The incident happened on Wednesday (Oct 4) inside coach B3 when the train travelled towards Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Junction.&nbsp;

The elderly couple was lying on lower berths number 57 and 60 when the man, who is in his early twenties, allegedly urinated on them and their luggage. They were left in a state of shock.&nbsp;

"It was traumatic for us. Our journey to the national capital was supposed to be peaceful, but never in our dreams did we think that somebody would literally urinate on us," said one of the passengers, who is a retired orthopaedic from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).&nbsp;

The accused man had boarded the train from Mahoba and was travelling on the side lower berth number 63. In media reports, he has been identified as Ritesh from Qutub Vihar, southwest Delhi.&nbsp;

The victim said, "The youth was under heavy influence of alcohol. After he urinated on us and our luggage, fellow passengers alerted the coach attendant and TTE. It was like hell, everything was wet and stinky. The accused was taken away at Jhansi railway station."&nbsp;

Onboard TTE Basruddin Khan immediately called the housekeeping staff to sanitise the coach, the news agency IANS reported citing an official source.&nbsp;

He later gave a memo to RPF Jhansi about the incident and handed over Ritesh to them for further legal action.&nbsp;

Manoj Singh, PRO of Jhansi division, North Central Railway, said: "Ritesh has been booked under Railway Act 145 (drunkenness or nuisance)."&nbsp;

Another peegate in India: Drunk passenger urinates on senior citizens onboard train

Another day, another "peegate". A passenger aboard an American Airlines flight has been detained for allegedly urinating on his co-passenger. The man, as per reports, was inebriated and had gotten into an argument with a co-passenger. The incident happened on a New York to Delhi nonstop flight on Sunday evening.

The man was handed over to Delhi local police on April 23 for his "disruptive" behaviour.

"An allegedly inebriated passenger relieved himself on another passenger. American Airlines has recorded the statements of co-passengers and handed over the passenger to law enforcement agencies. An FIR has been lodged," said a senior DGCA official as per a TOI report.

However, conflicting versions of the alleged incident are emerging.

While the airline in its complaint to the local police and aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) alleged that a drunken passenger had urinated over a co-traveller, the Delhi Police said that statements from co-passengers failed to substantiate the allegations.

"The staff did not share who the accused urinated over or where did he do so in the aircraft. Passengers sitting near him also submitted in writing that they were not urinated over," said a senior Delhi police officer, as reported by the Hindu.

In a press statement, American Airlines said that a passenger was handed over to law enforcement following a "disruption on board". Citing an anonymous DGCA official, the Hindu also reported that the airline will be holding a further investigation into the matter as per internal procedures.

Over the past few months, multiple incidents of drunk passengers peeing or urinating on their fellow passengers have come to light. Just last month, a 20-year-old Delhi student was accused of urinating on a business class passenger on another American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi.

Before that, in November and December of last year, similar incidents were reported on Air India flights to India. In December, on an Air India-102 flight from New York to Delhi, a male flyer relieved himself on a female passenger. In December, a man on an Air India-142 flight from Paris to Delhi urinated on a vacant seat and the blanket of a fellow passenger.

Drunken man on American Airlines flight gets into argument with fellow passenger, proceeds to urinate on him

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran issued a media statement over the 'peeing' incident that took place in a Air India flight between New York and New Delhi, when a passenger Shankar Mishra allegedly urinated on an elderly woman co-passenger on November 26, 2022.&nbsp;

In the statement, Chandrasekaran accepted that Air India should have responded to the situation more swiftly.&nbsp;

"The incident on Air India flight Al102 on November 26th, 2022, has been a matter of personal anguish to me and my colleagues at Air India," he said.

“Air India’s response should have been much swifter. We fell short of addressing this situation the way it should have been," he added.&nbsp;

The statement was released by Tata Sons chairman 44 days after the incident took place but came to light recently following which there was public outrage over the negligence as the authorities assured to take action.&nbsp;

Chandrasekaran stated that the Tata group and Air India are committed to ensure passengers' well-being and safety.

“The Tata group and Air India stand by the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew with full conviction. We will review and repair every process to prevent or address any incidents of such unruly nature," the statement added. &nbsp;

Accused sent to judicial custody

Meanwhile, the accused Shankar Mishra has been sent to judicial remand for a period of 14 days by the Delhi court after the police's plea for his custody was rejected. &nbsp;&nbsp;

After the judgement, a bail plea was moved by the lawyer of accused Mishra which will be heard by the court on January 11. &nbsp;

Mishra who faced termination from his job at Wells Fargo, an American financial services company, was arrested in Bengaluru on Friday.&nbsp;

Air India crew de-rostered

So far, the statements of Air India's three crew members were recorded by Delhi Police&nbsp;in connection with the “pee-gate”.&nbsp;

A show cause notice has already been issued by the Air Indian over the 'urinating' incident and one pilot along with four cabin crew have been de-rostered as the incident continues to be investigated, said CEO Campbell Wilson.

"Air India is deeply concerned about the in-flight instances where customers have suffered due to the condemnable acts of their co-passengers on our aircraft. We regret and are pained about these experiences," Wilson said.
