It was also revealed that some Indian youth&nbsp;who had gone to join the Islamic State group were also inspired by his lectures.

Naik is now on a month-long state visit to Pakistan, where he recently visited Lahore's Badshahi Mosque and addressed a gathering of over 150,000 people. It was here that&nbsp;he met the two terrorists amidst heavy security.

Indian investigators are probing controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik&#39;s links with people close to gangster Dawood Ibrahim, the man who headed an organised crime syndicate D-company in Mumbai.

India&#39;s Enforcement Directorate suspect that some Karachi-based businessmen close to Dawood funnelled large amounts of money in to Naik&#39;s organisation Islamic Research Foundation.

The ED&#39;s suspicion has grown after IRF&#39;s apprehended chief financial officer Aamir Gazdar apparently oversaw transactions from Pakistan and Dubai, according to Mumbai Mirror.

A senior ED official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a &quot;closely coordinated nvestigation&quot; was on to find whether Zaik&#39;s organisation was used as a front by Dawood Ibrahim and an unnamed Pakistni terror outfit.

Large transactions were also made from Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and a few African countries, the news report stated.&nbsp;

Naik or IRF representatives were not available for comment.

The ED also said Gazdar created shell companies to masquerade the offshore transactions.

Naik, who is known as the most influential&nbsp;Salafi ideologue in India, has been banned from preaching in India and Bangladesh.

He was banned from UK and Canada several years ago and Malaysia banned his preachings fearing communal tension in the country.

The 51-year-old preacher came under Bangladesh&#39;s security lens when one of the Dhaka attackers had posted on Facebook about Naik&#39;s influence on him.

Twenty two people, including 17 foreigners, were killed in a deadly assault on an upscale eatery in Bangladesh&#39;s capital city Dhaka on July 1.

Dawood Ibrahim has remained a fugitive -- India believes him to be hiding in Karachi, Pakistan -- ever since a series of bombs rocked Mumbai, then Bombay, in 1993, which left 257 people dead and hundreds wounded.

Amid speculations that recent terror attacks were perpetrated by &#39;well-educated&#39; millitants, the government also called upon educational institutions to share a list of &#39;absent students&#39; in a bid to keep a track on youth.&nbsp; 
 
Government appeals imams to deliver lectures to propogate &#39;real Islamic ideology&#39;&nbsp; 
 
The decision to ban the Mumbai-based preacher&#39;s &#39;Peace TV Bangla&#39; was taken during a special meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order, Bangladesh industry minister Amir Hossain Amu, who chaired the meeting, said. 
 
It was also decided to monitor the sermons given during the Friday prayers to check whether any provocative lectures are delivered, Amu told reporters. 
 
Naik&#39;s speeches are believed to have inspired some of the Bangladeshi militants, who killed 22, mostly foreigners, at an upscale restaurant in Dhaka&#39;s Gulshan neighbourhood on July 1. 
 
The government also appealed to the imams in the country to deliver lectures in line with real Islamic ideology of denouncing terorism and extremism, the minister said. 
 
Besides senior ministers, the meeting was attended by chief of police and head of the elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), paramilitary border guards and top officials of different security agencies. 
 
Deployment of additional security forces at export processing zone was also ordered. 
 
Interior minister Asaduzzaman Khan had yesterday said that Bangladesh&#39;s intelligence agencies were investigating the Islamic preacher Naik. 
 
&quot;He is on our security scanner. Our intelligence agencies are investigating his activities as his lectures appeared provocative,&quot; Khan said. 
 
Khan said the investigators were also probing Naik&#39;s financial transactions in Bangladesh.&nbsp;

The revelation that the attackers were educated, well-off members of society has sparked fears that Islamism has spread far beyond disenfranchised youngsters being radicalised in madrasas. 
 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier in the day called on every school, college and university to &quot;create a list of absent students and publish it&quot;.

US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal flew to Dhaka Sunday to discuss the security situation with Bangladesh foreign minister Mahmood Ali. 
 
She offered US expertise in building Bangladesh`s counterterrorism capabilities, the American embassy in Dhaka said in a statement.
