The disappearing password problem impacted Chrome web browser users all over the world, leaving them unable to find any passwords already saved using the Chrome password manager. Newly saved passwords were also rendered invisible to the affected users.&nbsp;

Google, which has now fixed the issue, said that the problem was limited to the M127 version of Chrome Browser on the Windows platform.

The password management company, NordPass, released its list of the Top 200 Most Common Passwords used by people in 2022. The report was released on Monday with a special pop culture edition, that tells that most people have been using the character "password" as their account password.&nbsp;

The research was carried out across 30 countries by NordPass, and also looked at the cultural impacts of people in selecting their passwords. The top three passwords used by users across these countries are — 'password', '123456', and '123456789'. The finding also shows that it will take less than one second to crack all the top three passwords.&nbsp;

In India, "bigbasket" and "1111111" are the top-most commonly used passwords by users. Other common passwords by Indian users also include, 'iloveyou', 'abcd1234', and 'iphone5s'.

The report further noticed that users have a big influence of films and movies in generating a password for their accounts. It reported, "Batman, Euphoria, and Encanto were among the most popular releases in 2021/2022. All are also popular passwords: “Batman” was used 2,562,776 times, “euphoria” 53,993, and “Encanto” 10,808 times." 
 
Even the biggest film industry event of the year, the Oscars ceremony, inspired many to use a not-so-safe password, 'Oscars', that was used over 60,000 times.

It was noted by the researchers that people generally use passwords from their favourite sports teams, movie characters, and food items. Other dominant categories of all time include — fashion brands, swear words, names of artists, video games, cars and food.&nbsp;

The list was compiled by NordPass in partnership with independent researchers specialising in research of cybersecurity incidents, evaluating a 3TB database.&nbsp;

Ending the report with suggestions for selecting a strong password, the firm also lists down some password hygiene basis, like choosing long and complex passwords instead of short passwords,&nbsp;not reusing a single password for multiple accounts, and using a password manager to securely store and access passwords.&nbsp;

Despite repeated pleadings and warnings from government agencies and experts, people continue to take cybersecurity and cyber theft lightly.

According to a new research report by NordPass, the most commonly used password around the globe numeric passwords are 123456, 123456789, 111111, and 12345—which would take only a second to crack the code.

Simple passwords such as qwerty, password, dragon, and money were also found to be used commonly, the report states.

In fact, ‘password’ was the second-most preferred one in Australia, the United States and Canada. The most commonly used password in the US and Russia is ‘123456’.

The situation is similar in India as well. Among the widely&nbsp;used passwords include—“password”, 12345, 123456, 123456789, 12345678, india123, 1234567890, 1234567, qwerty, abc123, iloveyou, xxx, ‘krishna’ and ‘omsairam among others.

All of which takes less than a minute for a hacker to figure it out, except for india123, which takes around 17 minutes to be cracked, according to NordPass.

The report further notes that a majority of people around the world use their own names as passwords.&nbsp;

The list of passwords was compiled from 50 countries in partnership with independent researchers specialising in research of cybersecurity incidents. They evaluated a 4TB database for the analysis.&nbsp;

"It's important to understand that passwords are the gateway to our digital lives, and with us spending more and more time online, it's becoming enormously important to take better care of our cybersecurity," said NordPass CEO Jonas Karklys in a statement.

"Unfortunately, passwords keep getting weaker, and people still don't maintain proper password hygiene," he said.

In its advisory, NordPass says that one can secure their account by using complex passwords—with combinations of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols— and updating them regularly.

The popular tech company has decided to abandon password system to let its users have a ‘passwordless account’ for easy and quick access.

Users of all popular services such as Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive and more will be given the option of creating ‘passwordless accounts’ in the coming weeks.

The option was available for corporate users of Microsoft in March, but has now decided to extend this option for private users too.

"You can now completely remove the password from your Microsoft account," Vasu Jakkal, the company's corporate vice president of security, compliance and identity, wrote in a&nbsp;blog post&nbsp;Wednesday.

However, security will now be compromised for these accounts. Microsoft will allow users to access their personal accounts through the famous Authenticator app that will generate a ‘One Time Password’ (OTP) (unique numbered login code). Users can put in this code and enter their account.

In a bid to help protect browsing history and search activities of its users from others to see, Google will now let them password-protect the page that shows their searches. 
 
Whenever people use a Google device or product (Android smartphone or Chrome browser), their activity history is stored and is available for them to review via the `My Activity; feature. 
 
Now, "if you turn on extra verification, Google will make sure it`s really you before you can see or delete your full history on My Activity," the company said in an update. 
 
"This can help keep your history safer on shared devices. This setting only applies to My Activity. Your history may still appear in other Google products," the company added. 
 
To strengthen your privacy on shared devices, you can choose to require an extra verification step to view your full history on My Activity. 
 
To activate the verification, go to activity.google.com and click the Manage My Activity verification link. 
 
According to Android Police, once turned on, "the feature will ask you to verify your identity before showing your history".
