The Palestinian news agency WAFA said Israeli forces also stormed the West Bank city of Nablus and blew up a house.&nbsp;

The residence supposedly belonged to a man accused of carrying out an attack which led to the death of a British-Israeli mother and her two daughters in April in the occupied Palestinian territory.&nbsp;

The man, Moaz al-Masri who Israel accused was killed by IDF soldiers last May.&nbsp;

Israeli forces, which conducted overnight raids, arrested 55 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.&nbsp;

In a statement, the Palestinian organisation also said that the arrest operation was concentrated in the Hebron governorate where nearly two dozen people were detained.&nbsp;

Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man on the Gaza border on Friday, the 53rd Palestinian to be killed during a seventh week of protests on the Gaza border.

At least 170 protesters were wounded, with seven people critically injured, Palestinian medical workers said. A 16-year-old was shot in the face.

Protests began on March 30 calling for Palestinians to be able to return to the homes they fled in 1948, which are now inside Israel.

Organisers of the protest, called the "Great March of Return," said they expected tens of thousands of Gazans at tented border encampments in the coming days.

The protests peak on Fridays and are building to a climax on May 15, the day Palestinians call the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe", marking the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the conflict surrounding the creation of Israel in 1948.

A second man, 29-year-old Mohammed Mohaisen, died later in clashes east of Gaza City, it said.

Six other Gazans were shot and wounded by soldiers using live ammunition, and one was in a critical condition, the ministry said.

One man dressed as Santa Claus holding a Palestinian flag was shot in the leg east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, eyewitnesses said.

In the occupied West Bank, clashes broke out in Ramallah, Hebron and other major cities, with smaller protests across the territory, including near the Jewish settlement of Beit El.

Osama Najar, spokesman for the health ministry in the West Bank, said they had seen protests in more locations than on previous Fridays.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said it had dealt with dozens of injuries during the West Bank clashes, including at least seven hit by live ammunition.

The clashes broke out after the weekly Muslim prayers, with minor scuffles in Jerusalem.

The army said in a statement that around 1,700 &quot;rioters are hurling firebombs and rocks and rolling burning tyres... In order to disperse the riot, troops are responding with riot dispersal means&quot;.

A Palestinian wearing what appeared to be a suicide vest attacked Israeli border police in the occupied West Bank on Friday before being shot, AFP photos showed.

The man attacked the police during clashes near a military checkpoint on the outskirts of the town of Ramallah.

He was wearing what looked like a suicide vest, though it was unclear whether it was operational.

A video posted online showed the army shooting him three times.

Police said the assailant stabbed an officer who was &quot;lightly injured in the shoulder,&quot; but they did not respond to questions over a possible suicide vest.

No independent confirmation could be obtained.

The assailant, identified by a medical source as a 24-year-old from Hebron in the southern West Bank, was taken to hospital by Palestinian medics.
