Tillerson is expected to meet senior Indian leaders with the US increasingly concerned over events in Afghanistan.</p>

<p>The US secretary had met Pakistan PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi ahead of India visit today, with the Pak PM asserting that his country had &quot;produced results&quot; fighting terrorists in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tillerson had pushed for a more vigorous role for India during his talk at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington last week.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tillerson had said India must &quot;take leadership role in regional security&quot;, a move which was later welcomed by India&#39;s ministry of external affairs.</p>

<p>Pakistan and US have been at odds with each other over terrorist activities in the Pakistan-Afganistan region ever since President Trump laid out t his new&nbsp;Afganistan strategy.</p>

<p>Tillerson had said India must &quot;take leadership role in regional security&quot;, a move which was later welcomed by India&#39;s ministry of external affairs.</p>

<p>US President Trump had accused Islamabad of harbouring &quot;agents of chaos&quot; during his speech in August while unveiling his Afghan strategy and had said he could no longer be &quot;silent about Pakistan&#39;s safe havens for terrorist organizations&quot;.</p>

<p>The US president had called on India to play a greater role in Afghanistan which did not go down well with Pakistan officials.</p>

<p>On Monday, during an unannounced visit to Kabul, Tillerson had urged Pakistan to act against &quot;safe havens&quot; on its soil.</p>

<p>Tillerson, in the first major foreign policy speech on October 18 had said the US is India&#39;s &quot;reliable partner&quot; at the world stage in this period of uncertainty and angst, sending a strong signal to side with India amidst China&#39;s &quot;provocative actions&quot; in the region.</p>
