A day after shutting down Samjhauta express, Pakistani on Friday announced that it is going to shut down Thar express and the Delhi-Lahore bus service.

Pakistani's railway minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad announced that Thar express, the weekly passenger train that connects Khokhrapar in Pakistan with Munabao in Barmer district of Rajasthan will be shut down.

With this both the international railway links that connected India and Pakistan have been shut down by Islamabad in the backdrop of New Delhi's decision to remove the special status for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan has also announced that Delhi-Lahore bus service, officially known as Sada-e-Sarhad will be suspended. Murad Saeed, Pakistan's communication minister in a tweet said, "In line with the decisions of NSC Pak-India bus service is suspended."

The service which started in 1999 connected Lahore and Delhi and was not even stopped during the Kargil war. The bus service was suspended only once after the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. It later resumed in 2003.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was on the inaugural bus service that took him for the famous Lahore Summit with the then PM of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.

The Pakistani decision will be considered as a big blow to people-to-people contacts between both countries.

Pakistan earlier on Thursday announced that it will shut down Samjhauta express--the bi-weekly train that connects Delhi in India to Lahore in Pakistan. People who had already brought the tickets for the train service will be refunded without any deduction.

Meanwhile, the last service of Samjhauta express from Lahore arrived at Delhi railway station on Friday morning. Earlier the Pakistani crew of the train had refused to ply it to Delhi citing security concerns. The claims were dismissed by Indian railways. India also sent its crew and engine to get the train from Wagah border where it was stranded for four hours.

Samjhauta express was discontinued after the attack on Indian Parliament in 2001. Service was later resumed in 2004 but again suspended after the assassination of Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto.

In 2019, Pakistan again suspended the service after its forces attacked Indian military installation on February 27 in the backdrop on Indian counter-terror strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed camps in Balakot.

The service was first started in 1976 as part of the Shimla Agreement and initially ran between Amritsar and Lahore.

MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar comments on downgrading of ties with Pakistan

Dutch politician Geert Wilders on Monday took to Twitter and hailed India's decision of scrapping Article 370 and 35A. He labelled Pakistan as a hundred per cent terror state and welcomed Kashmir back home. "India is a full democracy. Pakistan is a 100% terror state. So the choice is easy. Welcome home #Kashmir. #IndiaForKashmir," Wilder tweeted.

Geert Wilders is a Member of Parliament and the leader/Chairman of the Party for Freedom in the Netherlands. In an exclusive conversation with WION, the Dutch Parliamentarian openly welcomed the decision of by the Indian government and also mentioned that it is time for the western world to come out in support of democratic and sovereign nation India and forget all the rhetoric coming from terror state Pakistan.

WION: How do you see India's move to scrap Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir?

Geert Wilders: The decision to revoke Article 370 and 35 by the Indian government is the country's matter. I believe that the western world should support India because its Home Minister Amit Shah told Parliament earlier this week that democracy was never fully implemented in Jammu and Kashmir under the Article. Also, corruption was on the rise in the region. We all know that Article 370 was believed to be only a temporary measure, not a structural one. One cannot have a state within a state and Indian government, therefore, decided to completely include Jammu and Kashmir on the Indian law.
Every country in the west, every democracy would not accept a state within a state. This is why I strongly support the decision of the Indian government.
Pakistan government has been supporting terrorism since the last decade. It is more of state terrorism than anything else, from Pakistani-Taliban to Al-Qaeda to forces in Kashmir. They have been meddling in all the issues. Pakistan is not a democracy, if we in the west should choose we have to choose to support and I hope that my colleagues and other Parliaments in Europe will join me to support in the fight to end the state within a state. That is why I say welcome home Kashmir. Those regions and people will develop more under Indian control rather than under the influence of the terror regime in Islamabad. India is our friend and we should support our friend.

WION: You say the world must choose, and the west led by the US seems to have chosen to count on Pakistan to bring peace in the region and talk to the Taliban. Do you agree with the choice?

Geert Wilders: I do not think that you can talk to terrorists. The Taliban is like Al-Qaeda or the Islamic State or any terrorist group. One should not talk to terrorists. It will be the beginning of the end, we should fight for democratic institutions, Parliaments, counties, and elections, not corruption or terrorism. Unfortunately, Pakistan has supported terrorism all over the region not only in Kashmir but also in India. We all remember what happened in Mumbai all those terrible deeds either came from Pakistan or were supported by the Pakistani authorities. I know people are talking to Pakistan, but the west has a choice now between a democratic country called India and its PM Modi and its coalition who made a sovereign decision that Article 370 and 35A should be revoked and we do not allow a state or an autonomous region in our country. That is the right of any country to do so. There was pressure from Pakistan that supported terrorism in the past. The west should now stand up and say that we are on the side of India and we choose democracy, the sovereignty of India and Kashmir as Indian and not to be influenced by Pakistani pressure.

WION: Pak PM Imran Khan spoke about Kashmir in Parliament yesterday and spun it as a Hindu-Muslim issue. He portrayed it an act of injustice against Kashmir's Muslims. It is a convenient ploy to brand suck moves as anti-Muslim and Islamophobic. Is it how you see it?

Geert Wilders: I do not think it is Islamophobia. Once again India is a democratic state, unlike Pakistan. There is a coalition and they made a decision. Indeed everybody knows that in Kashmir the majority is Islamic but after revoking of Article 35A other people in India would be able to buy land and live there. At the end of the day, everybody Muslim or non-Muslim will benefit from less corruption and more economic prosperity. That is why Pakistan is spinning it. Once again it is a choice between prosperity and democratic state that made a sovereign decision or the rhetoric and the support of terrorism of the Pakistan government.

We should stand up and support India and forget all the rhetoric that is coming from Pakistan. I hope more politicians and countries in the western world would support India.

West should stand up and say that we are on Indian side: Dutch politician Geert Wilders on revocation of Article 370

As India-Pakistan tensions mount, Samjhauta Express returns to Delhi

In the wake of India's decision to strip special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan must refrain from any retaliatory aggression, including support for infiltrations across the Line of Control (LoC) and take demonstrable action against terror infrastructure on its soil, said a joint statement by the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday.

Pakistan's Response To India's Kashmir Decision Is Likely To Lead To Escalation Of Tensions

In a stern message to Pakistan, the United States asked the country to take demonstrable action against terrorism on home soil instead of focusing on any “retaliatory aggression.”

Pakistan must take action against terrorists, refrain from retaliatory aggression, says US

The main focus of Prime Minister Modi's address to the nation on Thursday was Jammu and Kashmir and the abrogation of Article 370 from the state.

Referring to Article 370 PM Modi said, "Many of our brothers and sisters from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were deprived of their rights due to the Article which acted as an obstruction to their development. The entire country along with the state took the historic decision to remove the Article."

"Sardar Patel, BR Ambedkar, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and millions of countrymen's dreams were fulfilled after the Article was revoked."

"Our brothers and sisters from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were suffering due to Article 370. No one ever discussed this. Surprisingly no one could ever talk about the advantages of the Article."

"The legislation that were formed in the Parliament after days of contemplation and discussions were not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. The state's Dalits, minorities and poor were deprived of the Act that prevailed in other parts of the country. The people of Jammu and Kashmir never enjoyed their rights under the Minority Act, the Minimum Wage Act, SC/ST Act. Now all laws made by the Parliament will apply in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Referring to the people who migrated to India from Pakistan after the partition, PM Modi said, "There were many people in the state who enjoyed the right to vote in the Lok Sabha but did not have the right to cast their votes in the assembly and municipal elections. With the scrapping of Article 370, rights to those who had migrated will be restored."

Further assuring the people of the state PM Modi said, "soon they will be able to choose their state government with transparent elections."

Under the new arrangement, the Centre will make sure that the workers and police in Jammu and Kashmir get the same rights that are enjoyed by people from the same fraternity in India.

He further said that soon the state will have ample job opportunities to fill in the vacancies in Central and state government. The PM also added that the government will also encourage the public and private sector in Jammu and Kashmir to provide job opportunities to the people of the state.

He said after the abrogation of article 370, the Panchayat in the state will work to give best results.

He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will defeat separatism and will move forward with new hopes.

"With good governance, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will achieve all their goals in a transparent environment."

The PM hit out at the dynastic politics in Jammu and Kashmir and said that so far parties had not allowed the youth to lead. Now the young people from the state will come forward and take the state to new heights. He also urged the women to come forward and lead the way for development in the state.

PM Modi said Ladakh's development was now the responsibility of the central government.

"Article 370 was used as a tool by Pakistan to terrorise Kashmiris. Nearly 42,000 people died over the last three decades."

"Kashmir was the preferred destination for Bollywood movies. Now when the situation is normal, people from world over would shoot movies there. The region has the potential to become the world`s biggest tourism destination. Filmmaking would provide employment, " the PM said.

Article 370 revoked: United Nations urges India, Pakistan to exercise restraint

A US-based group representing expatriate Mohajirs on Monday called for the creation of an autonomous "Greater Karachi" within Pakistan.

The demand came in soon after India moved to end Kashmir`s special status.

The group seeks for complete autonomy to all ethnic entities and regions that are part of Pakistan`s own territory.

"Until Pakistan affords the same rights it is demanding for Kashmiris to its own Mohajir, Baloch, Pashtuns and Hazarah citizens, it has no moral right to speak on behalf of Kashmiris," Voice of Karachi (VOK) chairman Nadeem Nusrat told ANI.

As India revoked Kashmir`s special status, in anticipation of the announcement, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry condemned the Indian announcement as a violation of United Nations resolutions, saying in a statement on Monday that "Pakistan will exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps."

Nadeem Nusrat, who is in self-exile in the US, said Pakistan has no moral ground to plead Kashmiris case at any regional or international forum if it is depriving its own citizens of their fundamental human rights.

"While Pakistan demands right to a referendum in Kashmir, is it willing to grant the same right to its own disgruntled ethnic minorities?", asked Nadeem Nusrat.

"For decades, Pakistani ministers have been publicly conducting meetings with Kashmiri separatist leaders overseas. How would Pakistan react to Indian minister`s meetings with exiled Mohajir, Baloch and representatives of other persecuted ethnic or religious minorities of Pakistan?," the Mohajir leader further added.

Nusrat asserted that a global campaign will soon be launched to intensify its efforts in demanding the restructuring of Pakistan.

The campaign will be in accordance with the true spirit of the 1940 Lahore Resolution and as per the aspirations of Mohajirs, Baloch, Pashtuns and people of Gilgit Baltistan.

The Voice of Karachi chairman said that his organisation has already published the proposed map of the Greater Karachi and will soon issue the chief articles of its proposed constitution a day before Pakistan`s Independence Day.

Pakistan's failure to exit from Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) grey list is a risk to the recently approved International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan worth USD six billion, said Teresa Daban Sanchez, IMF's Resident Representative for the country.

'Failure to exit from the FATF grey list is a risk to the recently approved $6 billion IMF deal...The IMF is responsible for the financial system stability and the FATF-related issues hamper taxation and undermine the banking system,' The Express Tribune quoted Sanchez as saying.

Pakistan is currently grappling with a debt-ridden economy, having secured bailouts (including that from the IMF) to stay afloat. It has been warned by the FATF with repercussions which may include blacklisting if it fails to stop terror financing, amongst other things.

Sanchez further said that an exit from the FATF list is crucial for securing private sector credit to meet external financing needs.

She also added that the FATF greylisting 'undermines capital inflows in addition to affecting the private sector'.

'A potential blacklisting by FATF can result in a freeze of capital inflows to Pakistan, jeopardising the financing assurances under the programme', the Resident Representative stated.

The IMF official highlighted the need for Pakistan to exit from the FATF grey list ahead of the final review of the 27-point implementation plan by the FATF Plenary and the review of Pakistan's Mutual Evaluation by the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering.

'The IMF has an obligation to make sure that countries have legal, regulatory and financial frameworks that are compliant with the FATF`s AML/CFT regulations and this decision had been taken by the IMF`s Executive Board a few years ago' Sanchez said.

She also added that Pakistan had shared full details of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) loans with IMF.
