Pakistan on Tuesday claimed "success" against the coronavirus pandemic, saying the virus outbreak was controlled in the country due to "concrete measures" taken by the government through its trace, test and quarantine (TTQ) strategy and "smart lockdown" policy.

Planning Minister Asad Umar, talking to the media, said the TTQ strategy was effectively used to reduce the new cases and fatalities.

However, he warned that the threat was not over and people should follow instruction as all sectors were reopened in the country except educational institutions and marriage halls.

''Till now, we have traced 1.1 million people through this system and tested more than one million. More than 100,000 cases of the country's positive cases were identified through it. These people benefited from early treatment and took precautions so the virus did not spread,''&nbsp;he said.

Umar said that the government on average reached 10.8 people from one contact and contained the spread. He said the TTQ system of Pakistan was truly, world-class,&nbsp;and can be compared to South Korea's system.

Pakistan has recorded 285,620 coronavirus cases and 6,120 fatalities due to COVID-19 so far.

Sindh province registered maximum 124,556 cases, Punjab 94,586, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 34,755, Islamabad 15,281, Balochistan 11,921, Gilgit-Baltistan 2,371 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 2,150 cases.

The minister said that the smart lockdown strategy had been helpful to reduce the spread of the infection. He said now the policy was to move towards ?micro smart lockdowns?, which aimed to put under lockdown only a small group of houses.

Our government enforced more than 2,350 smart lockdowns. At least 85 smart lockdowns in 20 districts are still in place. We are going towards micro smart lockdowns," he said.

The minister also thanked the people for helping the government to combat the threat of the virus but asked them to follow the standard operating procedures as resurgence of the virus would badly impact the economy

Pak claims 'concrete' measures lead to 'success' against coronavirus pandemic

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) last month sacked 63 of its employees, including 5 pilots, on charges of fake degrees, embezzlement and absence from duty.

All five of the sacked pilots were holding fake licences, said PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan, adding that all the employees were dismissed in accordance to the law.

Twenty-eight employees were removed for fake education credentials and 27 employees were sacked for being absent from duty without notice, Khan said.

Two employees were fired on charges of embezzlement and one employee was fired for incompetence.

Further, the airlines demoted four employees for refusing to work, and held back increments of three employees for violating standard operating procedures.

Last month, the airline had sacked 17 pilots on the order of the federal cabinet. The 12 captains and five first officers were found to have 'dubious' flying licences.

The pilots were dismissed following Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan's probe into the May 22 Karachi plane crash.

In June, the minister had told the Parliament that 262 pilots in the country held "suspicious flying licences" and would be grounded immediately.

The domestic flight from Lahore to Karachi crashed in a residential area near the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on May 22.

The aviation minister's probe report blamed the pilots and the air traffic control for the tragedy that killed 97 people.&nbsp;

This comes after the government formed a four-member committee headed by Punjab Law Minister Mohammad Basharat Raja to consider an application filed by Sharif, seeking an extension of his stay abroad for his medical treatment on grounds that his condition is "very critical." 
 
The former Pakistan PM had gone to London last month after the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government gave him <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/doctors-have-advised-shifting-nawaz-sharif-to-us-for-treatment-pml-n-267225">one-time permission to travel abroad</a> for medical treatment during his bail period of four weeks without the condition of submitting indemnity bonds.

"We retaliated, Pakistan carried out attack firing at our post in which we did suffer. But before they could attempt the infiltration...It was decided that we target their terror camps. We had the coordinates of these camps," he said.

"In the retaliatory action, we have caused severe damage to terrorist infrastructure. Terrorist camps opposite Tangdhar sector have been destroyed," Rawat added.

The Army Chief also said that ever since the Article 370 has been abrogated, the force has been getting repeated inputs of infiltration by from across the border by terrorists who aimed to disturb peace and harmony in the state.

"Gradually things are returning to normalcy in the Valley, but obviously there is somebody who is working behind the scenes at the behest of terrorists and agencies that are some within and some outside country, in Pakistan and POK, who are trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere," said the Army Chief.

Senior Congress leader KTS Tulsi on Sunday praised the Indian Army for targeting the terror camps situated in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) region.&nbsp;

Speaking to ANI, Tulsi said, "It is a good step because now the routes which are taken by them (terrorists) for infiltrating into India are well known and from the border, their establishments can be seen."

Earlier today, the Indian Army used artillery guns to target terrorist camps in PoK which have been actively trying to push terrorists into Indian territory.

This comes after an unprovoked ceasefire violation was started by the Pakistani side to push infiltrators into the Indian side, according to sources.&nbsp;

There have been other cases of prosecution against "online blasphemy" in Pakistan, including one in 2017 that saw a man sentenced to death for sharing what the court said was blasphemous content on social media.

However, none of the previous convictions have come under the cybercrime laws, according to Chaudhry.

Shahzad Ahmad, of the digital rights group Bytes for All, said he also believed it was the first such case -- but warned that more are being registered.

He called the development "very worrying".&nbsp;

"Most concerning is the misuse and abuse of this law," he told AFP, adding that he fears it could be used as a tool of further repression in cases of blasphemy and religion-based hate speech.

Pakistani authorities say they have registered about 500 cases in total under the cybercrime laws since they came into effect.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday departed for Pakistan on a commercial aircraft, after a special jet given to him by the Saudi Arabian government, had developed a technical glitch minutes after taking off from New York airport.

Khan and his entourage left New York at around 2 pm (local time) and are enroute to Jeddah on a Saudi Airlines` flight. The plane is expected to make a technical halt in Jeddah on Sunday at around 8:40 am, The Dawn reported.

After a brief stopover in Jeddah, Khan is expected to reach Pakistan on Sunday evening.

On Friday evening, Khan and his delegation had departed from New York`s John F Kennedy International Airport on the special jet given by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, during the prime minister`s visit to Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

However, the aircraft turned back and made an emergency landing at the New York airport after a technical glitch developed.

Pakistan`s envoy to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, who had earlier seen off Khan, rushed back to the airport.

Khan and his entourage waited at the airport for some time as technicians were trying to fix the fault. However, the technicians said that glitch would be rectified by Saturday morning.

Lodhi, meanwhile, had escorted Khan back to the Roosevelt Hotel in the city, where he was staying during his week-long visit to the US for attending the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
