Earlier called <em>Padmavati</em>, the film was scheduled for a December 1, 2017 release but its release was postponed by the makers after objections around the film took a political&nbsp;turn. As many as 5 states have banned the film including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Fringe outfit Rajput Karni Sena and political leaders had appealed to Censor Board to screen the film first to a select audience and remove objectionable scenes around it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Only last week, CBFC invited a panel which included historians and former Royals to view the film and makers were asked to rename the film as<em> </em><em>Padmavat</em><em>.</em> In December, Bhansali had met a special Parliamentary&nbsp;committee and stated that the film was based on Jayasi&#39;s poem <em>Padmavat.&nbsp;</em>The film features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer&nbsp;Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The makers of the film- Viacom 18 and Bhansali Productions- have not made any official announcement yet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twinkle Khanna, one of the producers of &nbsp;Padman, said her actor-husband Akshay Kumar was not the first choice to play Arunachalam Muruganantham in the film.</p>

<p>Directed by R Balki, <em>Padman</em>&nbsp;revolves around Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkin machine.&nbsp;When asked if Akshay was her first choice, Twinkle, said, &quot;No. R Balki convinced me that Akshay should do this part.&quot;</p>

<p>When prodded further as to who she thought could have played the role when the film was being conceptualised, Twinkle quipped, &quot;Are you trying to create trouble in my marriage now?&quot;</p>

<p>Akshay joked, &quot;You already said that now (I was not your first choice for the film), there is already a problem.&quot;</p>

<p>Twinkle said she had some names in her mind but realized Akshay would be perfect for the role.</p>

"R Balki convinced me that Akshay should do this part,"said Twinkle

Twinkle Khanna, one of the producers of Padman, said her actor-husband Akshay Kumar was not the first choice to play Arunachalam Muruganantham in the film. Directed by R Balki, Padman revolves around Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkin machine. When asked if Akshay was her first choice, Twinkle, said, "No. R Balki convinced me that Akshay should do this part." When prodded further as to who she thought could have played the role when the film was being conceptualised, Twinkle quipped, "Are you trying to create trouble in my marriage now?" Akshay joked, "You already said that now (I was not your first choice for the film), there is already a problem." Twinkle said she had some names in her mind but realized Akshay would be perfect for the role.
