American media reported last week that a recently released body camera footage showed a disturbing interaction between the sheriffs and a man accused of decapitating his parents. A report by CBS News on August 23 said that the gruesome crime (of the man killing his parents) happened in a mobile home community along the 32000 block of Alipaz Street in San Juan Capistrano. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the suspect was identified as 41-year-old Joseph Brandon Gerdvil. The crime The sheriff's department said that a niece of the victims called the deputies after Gerdvil sent photos of his mutilated parents to her. The CBS report said that deputies discovered the bodies of Gerdvil's parents and their dog when they arrived at their house. One of the victim's heads was placed on the counter. The report added that the 41-year-old got out of the golf cart and threw a shovel at the deputy's vehicle. Shortly after, one of the deputies who initially responded to the house arrived at Gervdvil's location and confronted him. Seemingly ignoring the deputy's orders, the man continued to march toward the deputy while holding a metal water meter, the CBS News report further said. The disturbing interaction The body camera footage (of one of the deputies) showed Gervdvil in blood-soaked clothes. The deputy shot him five times following which the man fell to the ground. I'm sorry you're going to have to die." Paramedics took him to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. The 41-year-old was booked on two counts of homicide. (With inputs from agencies)

A woman inmate in California, USA who suffered a miscarriage in police custody six years ago has been awarded a compensatory sum of $480,000 by the government officials of Orange County.

Reportedly, the woman named Sandra Quinones who is no longer in custody, suffered a miscarriage on March 28, 2016 after her water broke during custody while the police officials showed extreme lethargy in taking her to the hospital, resulting in the death of the fetus.&nbsp;

The payment is part of a federal wrongful death lawsuit that was filed by Sandra on behalf of her lawyer Dick Herman.&nbsp;

In the lawsuit, Sandra claimed that after her water broke, she pressed the button in her cell, meant to summon the police officials for help. However, for more than two hours, not a single officer turned up at her cell while she writhed in pain.

Even when the staffers arrived, Sandra was taken to the Anaheim Global Medical Center in the jail deputy's patrol car instead of an ambulance. Moreover, en route to the hospital, the deputies made a stop at Starbucks to drink coffee, wasting precious time while Sandra remained in pain.

In the end, Sandra lost her baby as the hospital could not do anything after such a long delay. Afterwards, in the lawsuit, Sandra accused the jail staffers of exhibiting 'deliberate indifference'&nbsp;toward her 'civil rights and medical condition'.

Speaking about the outcome of the case, Sandra's attorney remarked, "That's a very good result for someone badly treated in the jail. This poor woman, she's in jail having a miscarriage and, instead of calling an ambulance, they take her to the hospital in a patrol car and the cops stop at Starbucks while she's bleeding."

Reportedly, Sandra has to formally accept the settlement for the agreement to be considered final.&nbsp;

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said that parishioners displayed “exceptional heroism and bravery” by detaining the suspect after they hog-tied his legs with an electrical cord.

The suspect was carrying two handguns and has been identified as an Asian man of Taiwanese descent who is in his 60s.

Approximately 30 to 40 people were inside the Geneva Presbyterian Church in the city of Laguna Woods during the deadly attack.

According to a statement from the Presbytery of Los Ranchos, a church administrative body, the church was hosting an afternoon lunch reception to honour a former pastor of the Taiwanese congregation.

Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock told a news conference, “I think it’s safe to say that had people not intervened, it could have been much worse.”

Governor Gavin Newsom's office said on Twitter, "No one should have to fear going to their place of worship. Our thoughts are with the victims, community, and all those impacted by this tragic event."
