Delhi government's odd-even scheme came into force from 8 AM on Monday morning with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urging all citizens to use carpooling in order to control the deteriorating air quality in the national capital. A flagship scheme of the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP)-led Delhi Government, the odd-even scheme is a car rationing system aimed at combating pollution, by allowing the cars with odd and even number plates to ply on the roads of the national capital on alternate days. The scheme which has started from today will go on till November 14 and will be applicable from 8 am to 8 pm. It will not be effective on Sunday, November 10.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that the 'Odd-Even scheme' will be implemented in Delhi from November 4 to 15. &nbsp;

The chief minister said that although vehicles coming from other states will come under the purview of the scheme, two-wheelers and vehicles carrying school students will be exempt.

The scheme will be implemented on non-transport 4-wheeled vehicles as well. Kejriwal added that vehicles of Supreme Court judges, UPSC chairperson, chief election commissioner, election commissioners, CAG, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, deputy speaker of Lok Sabha, Lt Governor of Delhi, judges of Delhi High Court, Lokayukta and emergency services will be exempt from the scheme.&nbsp;

Delhi CM added that while vehicles of Union Ministers, President, Vice President, Prime Minister, leaders of the opposition, chief ministers will be exempt from the scheme, his own ministers will come under the implementation of the scheme.&nbsp;

In a bid to curb the worsening air quality of the national capital, Kejriwal said 16 vigilance teams have been put in place to construction sites and waste burning.

The Odd-Even scheme will be applicable from 8 am to 8 pm on all days barring Sundays. Scheme violation will incur a fine of Rs 4,000.
