Equity benchmark indices jumped over 1 per cent during early hours on Friday as bullish market mood prevailed in global markets after the first day of trade talks between top US and Chinese negotiators.

At 10:15 am, the BSE S&amp;P Sensex was up by 421 points at 38,301 while the Nifty 50 edged higher by 114 points to 11,348.

Except for IT and pharma, all sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the green while Nifty metal gaining 3.1 per cent.

Among stocks, Vedanta edged higher by 4 per cent to Rs 147 per share while Hindalco was up by 3.5 per cent, Tata Steel by 3.3 per cent and JSW Steel by 2.7 per cent.

The other prominent gainers were Coal India, ONGC, UltraTech Cement, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Infosys.

However, tech majors lost. Tata Consultancy Services was down by 2.8 per cent a day after the company reported 2 per cent jump in its second-quarter profit at Rs 8,042 crore, lower than the expected numbers.

Tech Mahindra was also down by 0.9 per cent. Pharma majors Cipla and Sun Pharma along with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum too were in the red.

Meanwhile, Asian shares and US stock futures rose on after US President Donald Trump said he will meet with China's top trade negotiator.

The MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan rose by 0.5 per cent following on from gains on Wall Street while Japan's Nikkei stock index gained by 0.9 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng moved up by 2.2 per cent and South Korea`s Kospi by 1 per cent.

The broader NSE Nifty was down 0.35 per cent at 11,273.60 by 0437 GMT, while the benchmark BSE Sensex was weaker by 0.31 per cent&nbsp;at 38,060.12.

All 12 stocks on the Nifty bank index were in the red, and RBL Bank Ltd was the biggest decliner with a drop of 4.1 per cent.

IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) will report its financial results later in the day, marking the start of the September-quarter earnings season. Industry peer

Meanwhile, telecom stocks rose after Reliance Jio said it would start charging customers for calls made through its network to other operators.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to cut benchmark interest rates for the fifth time this year as benign inflation offers room for more easing and fiscal measures to revive growth seem largely inadequate.

The RBI is predicted to lower its key lending rate, or the repo rate, by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.15 per cent, which would take cumulative cuts so far this year to 135 bps.

The broader NSE Nifty was up 0.37 per cent at 11,355.75 by 0408 GMT, while the benchmark BSE Sensex was 0.46&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher at 38,280.73. Meanwhile, the rupee was stronger by 0.13 per cent against the dollar at 70.8375.

Asia`s third-largest economy grew by just 5 per cent in the June quarter, its slowest pace in more than five years, prompting the government to take measures aimed at boosting growth.

A sharp cut in the corporate tax rate - to 22&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;from 30&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;- last month brought cheer to markets, but economists say the move will do little to address a lack of spending power.

While the central bank brought the cumulative reduction in interest rate of 135 basis points for this calendar year, investors appeared unsure if it is sufficient to support the flagging consumer demand amid slowing economic output, rising unemployment rate and low business confidence.

Besides, the aggravating non-banking financial company (NBFC) liquidity crisis continues to severely impact the credit availability for industry, especially real estate developers and construction firms.

At the National Stock Exchange, most sectoral indices were in the red except for Nifty auto, IT and pharma.

Nifty bank dropped by 2 per cent, media by 1.9 per cent, FMCG by 1.4 per cent and realty by 0.8 per cent.

Among stocks, the prominent losers were Kotak Mahindra Bank and Grasim which slipped by 3 per cent each, Bharat Petroleum Corporation by 2.6 per cent, JSW Steel by 2.2 per cent and UltraTech Cements by 2 per cent.

However, Yes Bank gained by 2.6 per cent at Rs 42.50 per share while ICICI Bank was up by 1.1 per cent and Axis Bank by 0.8 per cent. Oil marketing firms Bharat Petroleum Corporation and IndianOil Corporation also gained by 5.8 per cent and 3.09 per cent respectively.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Asian share prices ticked up as some investors hoped that the fourth quarter of the current calendar will bring progress in resolving the US-China trade war.&nbsp;

White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro dismissed reports that the Trump administration is considering delisting Chinese companies from US stock exchanges.&nbsp;

Japan's Nikkei rose by 0.74 per cent while MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan inched up by 0.24 per cent.&nbsp;

The rest of the region also saw gains as with exchange-traded fund inflows.&nbsp;

Chinese markets will be shut for a week to mark 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Equity indices down on weak global cues, Tata Motors top loser

Bears took control of the Dalal Street on Wednesday as global sentiments turned negative after US lawmakers launched an impeachment inquiry against US President Donald Trump amid concerns over growth in the global economy.

The BSE S&amp;P Sensex closed 504 points or 1.3 per cent lower at 38,594 while the Nifty 50 wound up 157 points lower at 11,431. At the National Stock Exchange, all sectoral indices except for IT were in the red.

Equity indices extended losses in the afternoon as the fresh scam of the lending problem in PMC Bank dented market sentiment. Investors also worried about the revival of auto demand despite deep cuts in corporate taxes.

Stocks like banking, financials and auto, which had rallied the most after September 20 corporate tax announcements, continued to see selling pressure on profit booking.

Nifty PSU Bank tumbled by 5.6 per cent, auto by 3.9 per cent, realty by 3 per cent metal by 2.6 per cent and FMCG by 1.2 per cent.

Among banks, State Bank of India was the top loser with a fall of 7.7 per cent at Rs 279.30 per share while Yes Bank dropped by 5 per cent.

&nbsp;Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Indian Bank, Allahabad Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce were down between 2 to 5 per cent. Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were also under pressure.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday announced a reduction in the effective corporate tax rate to around 25 per cent from 30 per cent and scrapped the minimum alternative tax for domestic companies, which led to a two-day rally in equity markets.

"Apart from what has already been announced, the market is now gauging what will be announced next," said Anand James, chief market strategist, Geojit Financial Services, Mumbai.

"There is lingering optimism that Friday's announcement could be followed up with something else too, which is why there is some volatility."

IT stocks led gains as the index gained 1.48 per cent. Heavyweights Infosys rose 2.25 per cent, while Tata Consultancy Services was up 1.52 per cent.

Reliance Industries, one of India's most valuable companies, added 2.85 per cent&nbsp;in the session after a newspaper reported that the company would get on a spending spree after reducing its debt.

Hotel stocks were up after the cut in corporate taxes and rationalisation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. Lemon Tree Hotels gained by 13.7 per cent, Indian Hotels by 8.6 per cent, ITC by 8.3 per cent, Hotel Leelaventure by 5.9 per cent and Chalet Hotels by 2.9 per cent.

Among others, the prominent winner was Indian engineering multinational Larsen &amp; Toubro which edged higher by 9.3 per cent. The government also scrapped the minimum alternative tax for domestic companies.

The rupee rose as much as 0.9% to 70.68 against the dollar, its strongest level since Aug 9, while the yield on benchmark 10-year bond rose to 6.71% versus 6.57% in early trading.

Shares of top private-sector lender HDFC Bank Ltd, soared nearly 10% - their most in over six years, sending the Nifty Bank index up 6.7%. 
"The markets have been asking for a big fiscal stimulus and the government has delivered," said Rusmik Oza, head of fundamental research at Kotak Securities in Mumbai.

Corporate earnings may see an almost 12% jump in the next quarter for full tax-paying companies due to the cut, and the markets can go up nearly 10%, Oza said, adding that foreign investors would cheer these measures.

The Nifty Auto index jumped 7.9%, its sharpest intraday climb since July 2011, with Eicher Motors Ltd surging 24%.

Indian shares rose for a third straight session on Friday, in line with gains in broader Asia, as US-China trade tensions eased, with IT firm Tech Mahindra Ltd leading gains after scoring a deal with US&nbsp;telecoms firm AT&amp;T Inc.

The broader NSE Nifty was up 0.49 per cent at 10,900.8 as of 0432 GMT, while the benchmark BSE Sensex was 0.53 per cent higher at 36,834.88.

Both indexes were, however, set to finish the week over 1 per cent lower, after seeing heavy sell off earlier in the week on worries of slowing economic growth.

"Foreign investors are still net sellers in the market due to the slowdown," said Anita Gandhi, whole-time director at Arihant Capital Markets, adding that markets are still awaiting measures from the government to stimulate the economy.

"There is intent on the government`s part, but we are yet to see an announcement to boost the economy, after which we may see a let up in the stock market."

Meanwhile, foreign investors pulled out 5.61 billion rupees ($78.21 million) from capital markets on Thursday, according to NSE data.

Asian stocks edged higher on Friday after the United States and China agreed on Thursday to hold high-level talks early in October, raising hopes for substantial progress in de-escalating their trade conflict.

In the local markets, Tech Mahindra climbed as much as 5.3 per cent to over 10-week high, after it said it would expand its collaboration with AT&amp;T to accelerate the US&nbsp;telecom company`s IT network application, shared systems modernisation and movement to the cloud.

The stock was the top percentage gainer on both indexes.

The stock, which had already lost around 48 per cent this year up to last close, touched an over four-and-a-half year low on Friday.

Drugmaker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd fell as much as 4 per cent after it confirmed that India`s market regulator was conducting a forensic audit of the company`s financial statements for the years ended March 2016 to March 2018.

Among auto stocks, realty major DLF plummeted 17.5 per cent to Rs 141.35 per share. Oberoi Realty was down 4.3 per cent while Indiabulls Housing Finance suffered a bruising fall of 7.8 per cent to Rs 445.80 per share and Yes Bank lost by 4.2 per cent.

The other prominent losers were Bajaj Finserv, Vedanta, Adani Ports and JSW Steel which lost over 2 per cent each. Hindalco, Zee Entertainment, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finance too were in the red.

But FMCG major Britannia gained by 2.6 per cent. Dr Reddy's, ITC, Bharti Infratel and Hindustan Lever showed marginal gains.

Meanwhile, Asian shares went flat as uncertainty continued over the outlook for US interest rates and the global fiscal stimulus.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was off 0.2 per cent in very light volumes. Japan's Nikkei was down by 0.05 per cent and the Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.18 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng too lost by 0.8 per cent.

Domestic equity benchmarks extended their declines for the third day in a row amid news of more and more job losses and slowdown effects in the economy.

At close, Sensex fell by 587.44 points or 1.59 per cent to 36,473, while the Nifty declined by 177.35 points or 1.62% per cent to 10,741.35.

The rupee has extended losses and trading at 2019 low. It is trading 31 paise lower at 71.86 per dollar versus previous close 71.55.

Among sectors, except IT other indices ended lower led by the metal (down 3.5 percent), PSU Bank (down 3.7 percent), energy (down 2.3 percent), followed by auto and infra.

Majority of the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the red. Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal indexes, down 5.3% and 3.6%, respectively, took the deepest cuts.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) on Wednesday sold scrips worth Rs 770.81 crore while the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) offloaded stocks worth Rs 353.97 crore.

Analysts said that an extended slowdown in the domestic economy has increased the volume of stressed assets in segments like industrial, infrastructure and financials.
