Allison Holthoff was rushed to a hospital in the Nova Scotia province on the morning of 31st December as her condition worsened over what was earlier thought to be an upset stomach. Talking to CBS News, her husband,&nbsp;&nbsp;Gunter Holthoff, revealed how he had carried his wife to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Nova Scotia’s Amherst town on his back and how they spent hours waiting in agony before the mother of three died.&nbsp;As per Gunter, they had reached the hospital at around 11 am but they didn’t get to see a doctor till after 6 pm.

Reportedly during the preliminary examination that was conducted after 6 pm, Allison was asked to submit a urine sample, but by then the pain had gotten so bad that she fell to the bathroom floor while trying to prepare the sample. She then had to be assisted by two people.&nbsp;

Soon, her condition deteriorated to the point where she couldn’t even sit in a wheelchair and had to lie down on the floor. As the pain progressed, the woman told her husband that she felt&nbsp;like she was dying and even said, “I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die here”.

As per Daily Mail, she spent hours writhing on the floor as nurses brushed her off.&nbsp;

Towards the end, Allison “descended” screaming into a cardiac arrest and it was discovered that she had been suffering from internal bleeding all along.

In the end, doctors reportedly told Gunter that they could operate to save Allison’s life but that she had less than a one per cent chance of surviving and that even if she does pull through, it won’t be a life worth living.

Following this, the family reached the heartbreaking decision to not operate, and the woman died twelve hours after their arrival at the hospital. It is still not known what caused the internal bleeding.&nbsp;

The incident has raised questions about Canadian healthcare. Allison’s family, backed by Nova Scotia politicians, are demanding to know why she wasn’t taken care of for hours.&nbsp;&nbsp;

‘Unfortunately, I do feel like she was neglected, and it was to a point where they couldn’t ignore us anymore,’ said Gunter. An investigation into the case has been launched by the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

The US National Hurricane Center said on Saturday that Storm Fiona made landfall in eastern Canada's Nova Scotia.

With maximum sustained winds of 90 miles (144 kilometres) per hour and heavy rainfall, the NHC said the storm would affect many parts of eastern Canada.

When the storm was about 160 miles (255 km) northeast of Halifax, it weakened somewhat as it travelled north. As a result of the storm,&nbsp;at least 400,000 households lost electricity in&nbsp;Nova Scotia.

Killing at least eight people and knocking out power for virtually all of Puerto Rico's 3.3 million people during a sweltering heat wave, the storm-battered Caribbean islands earlier in the week.

After brushing Bermuda, Storm Fiona hits Canada

The TikTok of a video of a Canadian woman reuniting with her 40-year-old skates has gone viral on social media. Renée Forrestall, who lives in Nova Scotia, had sold her Excalibur skates in a yard sale when she was a teenager. But after celebrating her 60th birthday, she decided to buy roller skates again in order to get some exercise.

The high school art teacher could not find the right fit despite trying several new roller skates. Ultimately, she posted on Facebook Marketplace that she is looking for a pair of old roller skates.

A seller contacted her saying he had a pair of vintage skates that were available for $40 but he didn’t know the size. Coincidentally, both the size of Forrestall's foot and the roller skates was 10 inches.

Upon acquiring the seller's address she went to pick up the roller skates and was shocked to discover that they were her old skates.

The uncanny discovery was made when she flipped the skates and saw her own surname written behind them which she had inscribed as a teenager.

Forrestall was pleasantly surprised as she had fond memories of the roller skates which her mother gifted to her when she was struggling with a significant personal loss.

'The Guardian quoted Forrestall as saying “The guy [Bond] was standing there and when I looked at him and I peeled back my name, my eyes filled up with tears because I literally had my life flash before my eyes.”

Forrestall shared the tale of the entire incident in a TikTok video which went viral and has been watched by more than a million people.

“Oh my god, the universe finally worked for once!” a TikTok user wrote in the video's comments.

“I’m not looking to get fancy. Look, if I can go forward and stay upright and not hurt myself, that’s all I want,” Forrestall said.

“I’d like to be able to have some time with them again,” she added.

A gunman in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia killed at least 16&nbsp;people, including a policewoman, during a 12-hour rampage, authorities said on Sunday, in the worst act of mass murder the country has seen in more than 30 years.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the gunman, 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman, who worked as a denturist, appeared at one stage to have been wearing part of a police uniform. He had also painstakingly disguised his car to look like a police cruiser.

Wortman shot people in several locations across the Atlantic province, police told a briefing, saying the death toll was more than 10.&nbsp;

Police added they had ended the threat posed by Wortman, who was dead but would not confirm a report by the CTV network that the RCMP had shot him.

One of the victims was RCMP officer Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the service with two children.

Police said there was no apparent link between Wortman and at least some of his victims. They said they had no idea what his motivation might have been.

"Today is a devastating day for Nova Scotia, and it will remain etched in the minds for many years to come," said Lee Bergerman, commanding officer of the RCMP in Nova Scotia.

The massacre was the worst of its kind in Canada since a gunman killed 15 women in Montreal in December 1989. Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada, which has tighter gun control laws than the United States.

Nova Scotia, like the rest of Canada, is under a stay-at-home order because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Police discovered the killings late on Saturday after reports of shots at a house in the small coastal town of Portapique, about 130 km (80 miles) north of the provincial capital, Halifax.

"When police arrived on the scene, members located several casualties inside and outside of the home," said Chris Leather, the Nova Scotia RCMP`s criminal operations officer.

Several buildings in the town were ablaze and police exchanged gunfire at one point with Wortman. Probes subsequently disclosed he had also killed people in several other locations.

"We`re not fully aware of what (the) total might be," said Leather.

At one juncture on Saturday evening, Wortman "appears to have been wearing - if not all - then a portion of a police uniform," Leather said. But he did not specify whether the suspect had been disguised as an officer when the killings occurred.

"The fact that this individual had a uniform and a police car at his disposal certainly speaks to it not being a random act," Leather said.

"WE HEARD GUNSHOTS"

According to the websites of the Denturist Society of Nova Scotia and the province`s Better Business Bureau, Wortman operated a denture clinic in Dartmouth, close to Halifax.

In response to a question, Leather said police would look at a possible link to the coronavirus outbreak, which has forced the closure of non-essential businesses.

Portapique residents said the first sign of trouble occurred on Saturday night when police urged everyone to stay indoors. One man said he saw at least three separate fires.

A resident said she had come across two burning police vehicles while out driving on Sunday.

"There was one officer we could see on the scene and then all of a sudden, he went running toward one of the burning vehicles," Darcy Sack told the CBC.

"We heard gunshots," she added. Television footage from Portapique showed two burned-out vehicles on a road.

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil decried "one of the most senseless acts of violence in our province`s history."
