As per analysts, Sher Bahadur Deuba, 76, the leader of the Nepali Congress is expected to remain in power and take charge of the new government for the sixth time.

The country's Election Commission showed that the NC- led five-party alliance secured 136 seats, just two seats short of claiming a majority, Reuters reported.&nbsp;

Nepal's major parties,&nbsp;NC, UML, and the Maoist Centre took part in the elections. While the NC was able to secure 89 seats, UML won 78 seats.

NC's officials have claimed that they have sought support from other parties and legislators to meet the required majority.&nbsp;

The party&nbsp;spokesman Prakash Sharan Mahat said that Deuba has met CK Raut, leader of the Janamat Party seeking support in forming a new government. He&nbsp;claimed that Deuba will be the prime minister.

Asia's one of the poorest countries that has had 10 different governments since the abolition of its 239-year monarchy in 2008, Nepal has been in news for its formation of the new government.&nbsp;

Considering Nepal's&nbsp;neighbours, the NC is seen as pro-India while the UML is seen as closer to China.

Many youth leaders have also participated in the elections. Few&nbsp;have been successful to make their mark.&nbsp;

Election results for Nepal's seven provincial assemblies were held with the parliamentary elections, showing that no party got a clear majority.&nbsp;

Nepal election 2022: Nepali Congress secures maximum seats, PM Deuba likely to remain in power 

The result of Nepal's general election should be finalised in another week, but according to the current result, it is clear no political party or alliance will win a majority of seats in the 275-member House of Representatives.

The counting of votes cast under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system is closer to an end and the opposition CPN-UML party led by former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has garnered the most seats under the system. 
 
Meanwhile, under the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system, the Election Commission has announced the results of 164 constituencies out of 165. 
 
Nepal Congress (NC) has emerged as the largest party from the November 20 elections while the CPN-UML party is in the second position.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has maintained a distant third position. 
 
With the rise of the smaller and newly formed party, Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to emerge as the fourth largest party. 
 
The ruling alliance comprising of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and People’s Front Nepal appears short of seats to secure the requisite 138 of the total 275 seats in the House of Representatives (HoR). 
 
They will most likely have to reach out to the parties like the RSP, Ratriya Prajantantra Party, fringe Madhes-based parties and independent candidates. 
 
Both ruling and the opposition alliances have claimed they would secure a majority in the parliament to form a government. 
 
Experts highlight the importance of this election for Nepal but are certain the nation is set for a hung parliament.

"We are still not quite sure if this election will bring the political stability for which the public has been longing. The election results show it is not going to be a stable government. It will be a hung parliament as none of the parties have secured a majority. There is going to be a coalition government but it is not sure if pre-poll alliances will continue," Chandra Dev Bhatta a political analyst told WION.

"The Maoist Centre has become slightly weaker than earlier and bargaining capacity has gone down. Nepali Congress has got an upper hand to form a government with like-minded coalition partners. There are rumors that Nepali Congress and CPN-UML will come together," he added.

As the final results are yet to be released, candidates from both the ruling and opposition are eyeing the prime ministerial positions.

Political leaders from different parties have begun to hold dialogues with other leaders in order to form a government.

Within the Nepali Congress, not only Sher Bahadur Deuba but also other senior party leaders Ram Chandra Poudel and youth leader Gagan Kumar Thapa have staked their claim to the post.

However, in the opposition party CPN-UML, the party’s chair, Oli, is the undisputed candidate for Prime Minister.&nbsp;

Opposition leader Oli held a telephone conversation with CPN-Maoist party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' who is now part of the ruling coalition to form a left-united coalition.

The possibility of ruling Nepali Congress and opposition CPN-UML cannot be ruled out either.

Once the EC announces the election results, the largest party will hold the election of its parliamentary party leader. The winner will be eligible to become the party’s prime ministerial candidate. 
 
It is hard to predict how the power-sharing deal pans out in the coming days.

Nepal's general election likely to deliver hung parliament

The results of Nepal's elections are yet to be declared fully but it seems that the ruling coalition in Kathmandu, led by the Nepali Congress, is likely to remain in power. However, the primary opposition CPN-UML might also have a sizable presence in the federal parliament.&nbsp;

While the Nepali Congress&nbsp;is expected to reach 138 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives, the CPN-UML is trying to club together with smaller parties&nbsp;and lure the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN to somehow secure the magic numbers.

As of now, the Election Commission has declared winners in 161 first-past-the-post parliamentary seats. Both NC and UML have won 54 seats. Under proportional representation, the UML is expected to secure 34 seats and NC is predicted to gain 32 seats.

NC's leader Bimalendra Nidhi said that the party will be choosing its first parliamentary party leader. He also said that he would easily have the majority since his party is the largest&nbsp; in the parliament. Bimalendra&nbsp;also said that the former alliance partners CPN-Maoists and CPN-Unified Socialists have said that they will continue the pact.

On the other hand, Subas Chandra Nembang, leader of the CPN-UML said that his party will try to form a government and has begun discussions with other parties. The UML leader said that despite NC having more seats, UML is ahead in vote percentage.

Six sitting ministers of Sher Bahadur Deuba-led five-party coalition,&nbsp;including the Home Minister Khan, Minister for Water Supply Umakanta Chaudhary, and Minister of State for Prime Minister's office Umesh Shreshtha of the Nepali Congress,&nbsp;have lost elections to the house of representatives.

Elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and seven provincial assemblies were held on Sunday, November 20. The counting of votes started on Monday, November 21. According to the Election Commission, about 61 per cent polling was recorded across Nepal. More than 17.9 million voters were eligible to cast their votes to elect the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies.

Out of 275 Members of Parliament, 165 will be elected through direct voting, while the remaining 110 will be elected through a proportional electoral system. Voters&nbsp;also voted to elect representatives to seven provincial assemblies during Sunday's elections.&nbsp;
